I use iChat for Gtalk and AIM and so far I love it, except when I change my status to Away (red dot), it appears as idle (orange dot) to my Gtalk friends. I had a couple people wondering how my status was idle while we were chatting. Is there a fix to this?
Switching to another app like Adium is not an option.
I want my status to appear idle so that it seems ive been away from my computer. Is there an app or something where it will show me as idle on ichat?

However, when I do this, my ichat status automatically goes to "Away". How can I make it so I stay "Available" so it looks like I'm still online?
View 1 Replies View RelatediChat was updated to 4.0.8 in 10.5.7 and I have a question regarding that. I searched and could not find any information. In 4.0.7, when I restart iChat it would log me in the status I quit the application in (say idle with my status text). Now in 4.0.8 when I open the App it always signs me in Available mode. Do you guys see this too? Is there a away to change this? I have chax and growl iChat installed, does it have anything to do with it?

View 3 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know how to get rid of all those status messages in iChat? Since installing Snow Leopard, there are a bunch of them. I could care less about people knowing I'm surfing the web, reading email, on the phone, etc. I prefer just "Available" and "Away" as those tell if I can chat or not.
I've tried:
- deleting all the status messages from the buddy list (no longer appear in the status message drop down menu of the buddy list, but still appear when you click the balloon icon in the menu bar)
- deleting all the .plist files to reset iChat (no luck)
Before there was a discussion on a couple of apps people had written that show in the status bar whether you're using the Intel HD or Nvidia 330M on an i5/i7 macbook. I now have an i7 MBP but can't find the thread anywhere (tried MRoogle too!).

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have the 13" Macbook Pro mid 2012 model and for some reason the wifi status bar would show full strength however when I open up Chrome or Safari the webpages won't load at all. I'll get a message saying something like "can't connect to Internet." I first thought it was my modem but all the lights are lit up and it shows I do have an Internet connection. I get the same problem with my ipod touch 4g as well. Only on the ipod's side it will try and connect but fails to do so at all. So I have two devices that fail to connect despite an existing Internet connection.

When someone IMs me who is not on my buddylist, it just says "Message from --S/N--". Once I add them, the message still does not show up, how do I view their message?
I have to add them, and then completely close out the IM and sign back on for it to begin showing their messages. How can I change this?
On Tuesday I was using my computer for several hours when a "Panic" error message appeared. I could not move the mouse or get the computer to respond so I restarted. At this point my computer would not turn back on, so I removed the battery pack and replaced it, it still did not turn on. I hadn't been doing anything except sitting in my room talking on ichat and browsing on safari, so naturally I was really confused how such a cataclysmic event occur that would cause my computer to not even restart. At this point I got on my PC downstairs and made an appointment with my local Apple store.
When I got to the store they told me at the genius bar that it had been a kernel error, and asked me a few general questions about its typical performance and whether anything had been out of the ordinary recently, it had not. Next the "genius" I was working with asked if I had been having battery issues, and I did not think I had been until he asked if it was typical for my computer to be "calculating remaining battery". My computer had been giving me that message periodically since I bought it, but I thought that was typical. That is exactly what I told him and then he said he thought it could be my Logic Board, but as long as I had not spilled anything on it the AppleCare would cover any repairs...........................
I had to set up my AIM account in iChat again and now within conversations it shows "*REAL NAME*: *text*. Before I reset everything, it would show "*REAL NAME*: *text*. How do I change this back?

Their address card shows up in Address Book and when I am messaged by the person it shows their name given when I first entered them in, but the buddy list does not show them as being online.

My problem is that.. I can watch some of the material,
but when trying to stream the actual games, it just says "loading".
In old style view. Every time I touch a message, it turns to read even if I haven't double clicked to "open it". I presume this is because it is previewing but I don't want it to do this. Also, every time I click on "inbox" to look at my messages, the top message in the list automatically changes to read. Again, I haven't opened the email and in this case I haven't even touched it! Can I TURN OFF PREVIEW? I've been looking around but can't seem to do this.

I've recently migrated to Lion and am finding the new layout of Mail frustrating as it shows my mail by the recipient rather than the sender. As the recipient is usually me, I have what appears to be a inbox of emails to myself but I have to open each email (or preview it) to reveal who actually sent it to me. Is there a way to have the sender (From field) showing in the list rather than the To field?
I need to have them sorted by Date so that the most recent messages are at the top. But when I choose View > Message Attributes the option to select "From" is already ticked but it is also greyed out. I have temporarily fixed this by using the classic view but I would really like to know how to do this in the new view?
There is a message marked as unread (the little blue ball) in an IMAP account's inbox.So why doesn't the Inbox show a (1) next to it to indicate there are unread messages?

I have an iBook G4 that's running Tiger 10.4.11 and the most recent version of Safari and just recently when I try to open up some web pages I get the error message "Safari can't open the page "http://whateverthewebaddressis" because it can't find the server". It will open some pages, some of the time and then a few minutes later if I try to open it again it will give me the error message. It is not a problem with my internet, as I also have a new iMac running leopard and Safari has never had a problem opening the same pages at the same time.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI was away from my computer for a day and when I returned I had an IM from a Screen Name that has been harassing me for a couple of months. They keep trying to video chat me or IM me, but I never answer. When I returned to my computer this morning, there was an IM that I opened and was finally going to say something to the person, but when I opened it, there was a couple of messages saying that they have downloaded all of my information and passwords and files. I am going to attach a photo so you can see. It looks a little fishy. I called Apple and they have never seen it. There are no articles about anything like it on google. The persons SN is bolded which is odd since usually when iChat tells you if someone has signed off or on, the SN is not in bold. Also iChat never gives warning messages like these. I feel like it is some script for iChat that someone started using. If not and someone has in fact hacked my system, which I don't believe someone can do through iChat, can someone let me know what to do. Also if they hacked my system some other way, I don't see why iChat would warn me about it and not something else in the computer.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI just got my 13in mbp a couple days ago and I've been watching the activity monitor since one of the reasons I got a pro was for the extra ram over the macbook. Mine seems to only have about 2.08 free while I have nothing running except whatever it came with since I haven't installed anything yet. This seems a little low considering the regular macbooks only come with 2gb how could they even run snow leopard? Am I missing something about reading the activity monitor or is there something I can do to free up more ram or is this just normal?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhenever I turn my computer on, it makes the start up sound and acts like the screen will turn on, then it goes black. I can't get it to come out of sleep unless it goes idle. It's like the roles have reversed. The screen turns on when idle, but as soon as I move the mouse or touch a button, it goes black again. It's plugged in, and even if the battery is dead, it always runs when it's plugged in. Also, on the battery bar, it's stuck at 00:26.

I notice sometimes that if I don't type anything with the keyboard for a few minutes, that when I resume typing the computer does not input the first keystroke. Does anyone else have this issue? IIRC, the SR MBP I had before this that I got replaced did this as well.
