My parents just got a new Gateway desktop PC, and they want some music/movies. I have a ton on my MBP hard drive, so I just figured I could move the files over thru some way like firewire or something (both computers have firewire ports).
what would be the easiest? And would the fact that the harddrives are configured differently effect this? HFS to NTFS?
I can't move any files on the desktop or put them in the trash.When I try to move the file it shows the circle with the loine through it. When I try to trash them it asks for a password, after I type it in it makes the typical trashing sound but it doesn't go into the trash. I am using lion.

I have two accounts a standard user account that I use all of the time and a separate admin account to use when I need to. Okay, so I just started my mac up and was creating some new folders and moving files from my user folder to my desktop (on my standard account). OS 10.5 comes up with a box asking for an admin password to make changes. It also does this when I try to move files to the trash. How do I fix this permissions error? (I've already tried repairing permissions and that didn't work)

I know that the Time Capsule must be formatted as FAT32. I don't even care about my Time Machine backups--I'm fine with deleting them all and reformatting so partitioning need not be done.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to get Windows 7 on my mac and when I go to bootcamp and do a partition I get, The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved. Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again. My disk is not partitioned and it's formatted correctly so i searched and saw that my HDD is like untidy or whatever it is called and it needs defragged. So i get iDeFrag full version and I do not know how to work it. Then I read I should back up a clone of my HDD and then copy it back to my mac, but i have no external hard drive.

When I swipe between desktops, the school files move between the desktops as I swipe but I want to keep them on one desktop all the time.

Recently have not been able to drag widows, folders, or files on my desktop. Nor have I been able to draw boxes (text or picture) in PhotoShop or InDesign. If, for instance, you want to move a window in FireFox to accomodate another window, when you go to grab the bar at the top of the page to drag it it won't move; sometimes the result will pop the window to the Dock. Also trying to select text is very erratic; you can't always select the text you need. You can pretty well set the cursor anywhere, but that's about it. The scroll arrows work, but not the scroll bar if you grab it. At first I thought it was the Apple optical mouse, but I moved it to my laptop and it functions fine. I've tried trashing the Finder and Desktop Pref files, but that didn't work. I ran the Hardware Diagnostics off of the installer disk, but that didn't find anything wrong. Anyone have any ideas? I'm running the most up-to-date OS that I can on this machine; 10.4.11. Asside from this quirky thing, it's always run fine.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just got a macbook pro. I installed some apps. I opened the applications folder from the dock and I attempted to drag the icon to the dock to create a shortcut there. My finger came off the track pad and the icon snapped over to the far upper left corner of the desktop. It's in the corner under the apple symbol on the menu bar. It's a transparent white square with a question mark in it. If I clicked on it it would open the app it's linked to. But I can't move it or delete it. If I right click a small window comes up showing the path to the app momentarily. I tried uninstalling the app and rebooting no luck. Looking in the desktop folder shows nothing. It looks stupid and it blocks the x-out of any app that is open full size.

I moved my documents folder to my desktop and it disappeared and then i found another folder for my documents and moved it to my dock. And then a icon for my documents ended up on my desktop. When I delete the documents folder on my desktop the format for all my .rar files change to .vlc format. And if I keep the documents on my desktop the files are alright and I'm still able to use it. I tried changing the type of format but it still doesn't work. Does anyone know what I can do to delete the documents folder off of my desktop and keep the format the same??

When I try to move the .mbox file from my desktop to an external hard drive it wont move. a grey circle with an exclamation point appears. I tried doing it with Entourage close as well and got the same issue. Does anyone know the proper way for me to move the .mbox file from the desktop to the external hard drive?

When I move a window around the desktop, the image inside it distorts really badly. I have tried a new graphics card, but still does the same. I have booted up from a different system but still the same. It is a Mac pro 4.1 with a GT120 video card. Took the card to work today and tried it in my mac at work and it worked fine. Brought my video card and hard drive from work and put it into my mac at home and the same thing happened. Any body got any clue to what it is. Really don't feel like forking out for a new Logic board. Also, when I scroll down with the mouse, the text stretches in the window.
