I am using Mac OS x 10.6, and I am using Japanese. When I zip files, I got Japanese filename like アーカイブ.zip, this file can"t be upload to this forum, so that I have to modify filename to archive.zip, I want to know if I can get filename in "archive.zip" when I zip files.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a file that, for some reason is set to "No Access" for Everyone in the Sharing & Permissions of the file. I tried to change the owner of the file to another user (with admin rights) but when I type in the name of the new user, OSX tells me that the name I entered is invalid. Is this new file owner the same thing as the account names I have setup in System Preferences? If so, why would I not be able to change the user.

View 1 Replies View RelatedUsing OS X Leopard 10.5.8 on PowerPC G5. We have 15 people sharing files on a network. If we open a file on the network, work on it, and save it, it is readable and writable for everybody. But if we drag the file off the network, work on it on our own hard drive, and save it, and then drag it back to the network, it is read-only for everybody. Documents made on our own hard drives are, by default, read-only for others. This is a real time waster for us!
This means that every time we make a document on our own hard drives, we have to remember to go to the extra trouble to change it's permissions before we put it on our network. Please, is there some way to change the default settings, so that if I, say, save a Word doc on my hard drive and then move it to the network, it is readable and writable by everybody without me having to change it's permissions?
Somehow windows Media Player became the default player for mp4 files. So when you double click on one parallels runs. But I figured out where to change it by choosing other and choosing the right app and choosing always use but it does not change the default app. How do I change it?

If I choose the file and select open with / and choose another application (VLC) then select always open with- it opens that file ok. But I want a global change so all AVI types open with VLC media player.

I just installed my new xt today and to format it I did the disk utility and did erase and let it format to the default file type, is that the correct way and will that let it use the drive to full advantage?

But how do I customise the 'open file' window. Every time I open a file I have to increase the size of the window, change the view and then look for my files.... is there a way to set the default view to what I would wish it to be?Â

On my Macbook, running Leopard, I recently changed all my icons. (applications, folders, default files, etc.) I changed the Finder and Trash icons via System/Library/CoreServices. But the Dock won't recognize that the Finder icon has changed-- it's still showing me the old icon. That's Problem 1.
Then I created a new user account, and discovered that on that account the Dock shows the correct Finder image. But Problem 2: the new account doesn't recognize my default file icons. It flashes them for a second when I save the file, and then reverts back to the regular white default image. (Even though all the .icns files are correct in the application's Resources folder.) I really don't want to download Candybar or anything, since I know it can be done without that.
I'm editing on Final Cut Pro but it's automatically saving all the files I am capturing to the hard disk using up all my storage space. I have a 2tb external hard drive how do I change the path so it will automatically save all the imported clips to the external hard drive?

Whenever I attempt to change the default program to open a file, it automatically reverts to whatever was selected previously. I work with a lot of .ai files and my default Illustrator version is set to Creative Cloud. CC crashes constantly on my machine, however CS6 runs smooth as silk. I'd like to be able to double click an .ai file and have it open in CS6, not CC. When I right click > Get Info > Open with and change it, it reverts as soon as I click "Change all..."Â

I need to modify my keyboard layout to change the Help key to sent the Insert code instead. I'm using a Citrix ICA client to remote connect to my mom's work PC (Windows XP). She uses an old DOS program that requires you to press the Insert key to enter a new order. When we are remote connected, and we press Help (which is supposed to be Insert) it still sends the Help command.
Does anyone know a way I can modify the keyboard layout in OSX to change Help (or any other key) into Insert? Even through 3rd party software is fine.
The preference tab will not let me do anything. I cannot modify any of the preferences.

I have a 500GB Seagate Free Agent Go HD and was wanting to use it for my Time Machine back up. I cant modify any of the files when I have it connected to my MBP. But I can modify everything when its connected to my PC, so I know this is a format issue. My question is how can I reformat the HD so I can use it for my back up off of the Airport Extreme?I really don't have the money to go out and buy the Free Agent Go for Mac, and this drive was just used to transfer data from my PC to the MBP when I first got it.

I followed a procedure online and have saved my Extras.rsrc and Extras2.rsrc files to the desktop, the first in PPC and the second in Intel, yet I cannot seem to move these files back into the Resources Folder. When I try to copy and paste them or insert them into the folder I get an error with a number and the message "this folder is not modifiable". Does anyone know where I can go from here to change my apple icon?

It won't have to work very hard. What could I do to make it efficient and quiet enough to run 24/7, without dumping a lot of $$$?
Obviously what I really need is a mac mini, but this will have to do.
