Somehow windows Media Player became the default player for mp4 files. So when you double click on one parallels runs. But I figured out where to change it by choosing other and choosing the right app and choosing always use but it does not change the default app. How do I change it?
Using OS X Leopard 10.5.8 on PowerPC G5. We have 15 people sharing files on a network. If we open a file on the network, work on it, and save it, it is readable and writable for everybody. But if we drag the file off the network, work on it on our own hard drive, and save it, and then drag it back to the network, it is read-only for everybody. Documents made on our own hard drives are, by default, read-only for others. This is a real time waster for us!
This means that every time we make a document on our own hard drives, we have to remember to go to the extra trouble to change it's permissions before we put it on our network. Please, is there some way to change the default settings, so that if I, say, save a Word doc on my hard drive and then move it to the network, it is readable and writable by everybody without me having to change it's permissions?
I want to change the default file type settings for AVI files. I dont want quick time as the default program as some avi wont open. If I choose the file and select open with / and choose another application (VLC) then select always open with- it opens that file ok. But I want a global change so all AVI types open with VLC media player.
Does mac have similar to windows where I can edit file type associations to a purticular program
Info:iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.2)
then select always open with- it opens that file ok. But I want a global change so all AVI types open with VLC media player.
For example; Numbers keeps opening downloaded files intended for Quicken. I can change the program to open the download, but I can't find a way to make the change be the default.
I'm editing on Final Cut Pro but it's automatically saving all the files I am capturing to the hard disk using up all my storage space. I have a 2tb external hard drive how do I change the path so it will automatically save all the imported clips to the external hard drive?
Info: MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2009), Mac OS X (10.6.8)
Whenever I attempt to change the default program to open a file, it automatically reverts to whatever was selected previously. I work with a lot of .ai files and my default Illustrator version is set to Creative Cloud. CC crashes constantly on my machine, however CS6 runs smooth as silk. I'd like to be able to double click an .ai file and have it open in CS6, not CC. When I right click > Get Info > Open with and change it, it reverts as soon as I click "Change all..."Â
I have 100% of my songs for iTunes stored on a USB Hard Drive.
I dont let iTunes organise my library, nor copy to iTunes library when adding
The default iTunes Media Folder is located on this drive where about 70% of the songs are (songs that have been ripped from CD or downloaded. My USB HD was plugged in correctly, but a song couldnt be found...so I tried another and it found it straight away...odd
I then hit 'Get Info' on the bad songs, and the location that Itunes was looking in, was changed to a new Default iTunes Music Folder on my Macs drive
Very strange as I have never known iTunes to change the location of a file before within the library?
Ive come to the conclusion that it was only the files that were stored in the Default iTunes Media Folder that coudnt be found.
So I then checked in preferences, to see where the Default iTunes Music Folder was, and it was on my Macs Drive, instead of the USB drive (possibly due to starting iTunes up, without my HD plugged in)
Changed this back to location on my USB Hard Drive, and all of a sudden iTunes re-writes my library to show all the files in the correct position again! Ive never known it do this before on my PC, is it a new feature?
I tried to consolidate iTunes to the default media folder but when I click ok nothing happens. It worked once before but doesn't now. I have the latest iTunes...
I just recently bought my first MBP and I have been busy transferring all my files from my Vaio to my MBP. I convert all my dvds to digital format and keep them on an external HDD (LaCie 1TB HDD) and was adding them to my iTunes on my MBP. I came across a problem trying to change the media kind for some of the videos.Â
I have several shows on my HDD (anime, Dexter, Walking Dead, etc.) but when I go to change the media kind to TV Show, it doesn't let me. The info on the folder says my MBP has "Read only" permission. How can I change this so I can read and write the files for my MBP? This is about the only snag I've come across trying to set up my MBP similar to my Vaio.Â
Is there a way to replace Aqua/Quartz as the default bootup desktop environment and instead start X with a window manager of my choice? I made an .xinitrc but not sure how to stop Aqua/Quartz from starting at bootup and replace it with X and my window manager.
Has anyone had a problem opening asf files in windows media player 9?
I have 2 files. one wont open, I get an error telling me to check the extension is correct. I have another that plays the clip but with no sound. Any ideas?
My external HD with itunes library is dead. I bought a new disc and put library backup on this. But the path for all my files are broken. How can i fix this?
Can one itunes library.itl file be used for music in two different itunes media files? I have an Air. Want to have music in MP3 format on the Air and the same music in Lossless format on a large external HD. Would like same playlists etc for both types. Lossless takes up too much room on the Air but for playing tunes on the road, MP3 is fine. Want to keep same music as Lossless for archiving and for playing on very good speakers at times; would be kept on the external HD. Would like to have the same playlists, ratings, etc., for music that is in both MP3 and Lossless format. For example, rating Dylan's Blood on the Tracks album as a 5 for both the tracks that are in MP3 format (that live on the Air) and the same tracks in Lossless format (that reside on the external HD). I realize I could have separate iTunes folders on the Air and the Ext HD but then would have to duplicate all the data on playlists, ratings, etc. for the two independent iTunes folders.Â
FCPX says media is missing, but "show package contents" on the library file shows all of the media where it is supposed to be. How do I make FCPX see the media?
As it's default setting, .wmv files open up with VLC. How do I change it so it's default program is Quicktime? I have the codec installed and it plays with no problem. I know I can go into "get info" and check "always open with" but it only does it with that file and not all .wmv files
To play wmv files I downloaded Windows Media Player for Mac. It came in a .bin file. Which I extracted using unarchiver it produces a .sitx file. Which I again tried extracting but it shows an error saying this file cannot be extracted with this program. I downloaded WMP from two three sources but got the same file so same issues. And I don't prefer flip4mac as everytime you try and play a video it starts importing which takes time.
I have shared out a folder on my IMAC called "TV Shows" with several folders underneath this. I did this under System Preferences > Sharing > File Sharing. I am trying to access this from my Windows 7 Media PC. Everyone just has read access because its just to watch TV Episodes. I have also enabled SMB Sharing for Windows. On my Windows 7 PC it connects however doesn't ask for a Username or Password? I thought the whole point of SMB was so that it would ask you for those details? For some reason when I connect I can go into some folders but not others? Is there any reason why I can only access some folders under "TV Shows" and not all the folders?
Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file Â
I have my old iTunes Media file on my iPod and I want to transfer it to my new MacBook Air, but the Apple support article is too old and it doesn't work as it should.
Is it possible to change the default time that comes up when you're entering a New Event. I want all of my first events of the day to be scheduled for 7AM.
let's see if I can explain this. I want to change me default movie folder from the the default position in my user folder onto my newly bought hard disk. Is there any way of doing this?
Anyway I can control the fans for my Powerbook G4 so it starts to pump air out at an earlier time than 63C? I tried G4 fan control but it never saved the settings (was at default after restart) and not sure if it even worked.
I am recently bought my mother a macbook and everything has been going great except for one thing. Everytime we turn it on I notice that we are on another wireless network that isn't hers. I looked in the Internet Network System Preferences but I couldn't find anything. How to change the default wireless network in Mac OS X.
