OS X :: How To Check If Picture Needs To Be Rotated

Feb 12, 2010

So whenever I use apps like Preview or JustLooking to view pics, they seem to display all my camera photos correctly, whether they be rotated or not, they will always display fine for me. However, when I send them via email or upload them or whatever, some of them will appear upside down and whatnot. Now it's all groovy that these apps won't even require me to manually rotate the pics, but what that causes is that I never know which ones should be fixed before I send them out.

OS X :: How Do I Know Which Pic Needs To Be Rotated Before I Upload Them On FB?

May 6, 2010

This really pisses me off - when I view pics on my MBP they always get displayed properly (which in general is a good thing), but when I upload them on Facebook I realize a great portion of them still need to be rotated, which makes it extremely annoying!!

How can I tell in advance which pics actually need to be rotated so to avoid inconvenience?

OS X :: Desktop Rotated And Lost All My Stuff?

Dec 26, 2008

Something very weird happened to me today. I was using my computer, I typed in a search and hit go and the screen rotated out of the way like a cube transition in a photo app. The new screen was blue and I thought I had pushed a f button I was unaware of. Anyway I pushed all the buttons on top to no avail. The only way I could get my computer off and restarted was the on button on back. When it re-booted back all my personal documents seem to be missing, the dock was missing all but the stock apps and when I tried to open iphoto or mail, all the files were missing.

I rebooted from the OS X startup disc and ran a repair, it said the disc was fine. I repaired all the permissions, to no avail. I even ran tech tool pro and it says all was fine. After hours of pain I ended up restoring the drive using time machine. Now I lost all my photos from Christmas....

Ha anyone seen anything like this and what is the rotating desktop?

OS X :: Apple Logo Appearing Rotated During Boot?

Jan 1, 2010

I've set my monitor (Dell S2409W) to portrait mode by setting it to 270 degree rotation in System Preferences/Display, and everything is fine but during boot the gray screen with Apple logo is shown in landscape orientation (so the apple "bite" is pointing to the top) and also not filling the whole screen (i.e. the gray screen is properly aspected at 9:16 as if to fill the screen in portrait mode but the whole thing is rotated 90 degrees).

Is there a way to fix this annoying problem?

I'm using Mac mini with OS X Server Snow Leopard.

Mac Mini :: Monitor Rotated 90 Degrees In Portrait - Quality Goes Away

Nov 24, 2010

I just picked up a 2010 Mac Mini. Intel 2.4 cpu, installed a OWC SSD and 8gb of RAM. Anyways, using the HDMI to DVI that was included, anytime I switch to have the monitor rotated 90 degrees so it is in portrait, the quality goes away. The text no longer looks clear, the display seems to lag, and if I drag a window, the image tears really bad. Just confirmed this also happens with a mini display port to dvi connection. I have also tried 2 different DVI cables, both a single link and a dual link.

IMac (Intel) :: Can External Display Be Rotated Into Portrait Mode

Nov 30, 2014

I was told that the new 5k imac can support one external 4k display via thunderbolt, but the 5k imac cannot itself be rotated into portrait mode (on a vesa mount for example). If I connect an external 4k display via thunderbolt to the new 5k imac, can the external display be rotated into portrait mode so I can have 3840 pixels vertically on the 4k display?

OS X :: How To Check If There Is Malware On Mac

Nov 5, 2010

I had visited a website then was told that I might get a malware there. I haven't seen anything suspicious on my Mac. I didn't give my administrator password to any pop up dialog either. How could I check if my Mac already got infected?

A second question: about Symantec Antivirus. I installed and removed this software long time ago when I was using Tiger. After upgrading (not clean install) to Snow Leopard, there are errors message pop up every time I start the system. This didn't happen with Tiger though. The message says: "Symantec Antivirus Error. Symantec AntiVirus Auto-Protec could not continue. Please run LiveUpdate or reinstall Symantec AntiVirus and restart. (Code: 10)". No file shows up when I search for Symantec in Finder. How could I get rid of those messages?

OS X :: Mac Wakes Up On Its Own - Any Way To Check Log

Feb 5, 2008

My ALU iMac seems to be waking up sometimes (so not all the time) when I'm at work. I am 100% sure I set it to sleep and everyone else in the house says they didn't touch it. My work schedule is always about the same, so it's strange that 2 weeks ago it was awake when I got home, and since then 2 times more. I've checked the settings, to be sure it doesn't have a schedule to wake and sleep. Everything looks OK. No schedule whatsoever, except wake after power failure.

I've disabled that now but I don't think we had any power failures recently because iStat Pro indicates an uptime of 20 days straight, which would be hard to do without power. Now is there a way to check any logs about wake and sleep times? I'm sure there is a command for the terminal that does exactly this but I haven't found it yet. I ordered the Missing Manual to learn more about OS X but I would like to check this now because the order could take a while.

In Windows, if I wanted to view all the pictures one by one in a folder, I'd just double click and Windows Picture Preview will launch and you can hit the left / right arrow keys to go to the other pictures. In the Mac side, to achieve this, you have to select every picture file for you to be able to hit the right / left arrow keys to advance. You can't just open one picture and have it open everyone in the folder. Anyone know how I can make this work?

MacBook Pro :: LED Backlight On But No Picture?

Jan 22, 2009

I have a 2.2 Santa Rosa 15" MBP, and an odd thing happened last night. I wasn't running any unusual applications, and had a few things open and was browsing in Firefox. All of a sudden my screen went black, and wouldn't come back up.

The computer is still running just fine, and it didn't go to sleep. The LED backlight is fine, as the Apple logo is lit up and if I change the brightness I can see the backlight changing (the "black" screen gets less "black", if that makes sense), however the actual display panel isn't projecting any picture at all.

I've restarted a dozen times, reset PRAM, and did the unplug battery and hold power button trick, all to no avail. There's no flicker of a picture or anything... it's as if the monitor is completely dead (aside from the backlight being fine).

If I plug in an external monitor, I can use the computer just fine. So it's not like the video card is dead all the way.
