OS X :: How To Add Files To Existing Zip

Apr 9, 2009

In Windows, if I wanted to add files to an existing zip file, I just dragged the files onto the zip and they would be added. How do I do this on the Mac? Dragging the files in Finder onto the existing zip file doesn't seem to do anything. And if I double click on the zip file, it just gets automatically expanded. So, I don't get any option to add files.

OS X :: Migrating Files Between Macs With Existing Users?

Oct 15, 2010

I've just received my new Mac and I'm wanting to transfer my documents etc. from my old Mac to my new one. I'd rather do it manually than use the migration assistant as I have more control that way.

I've got my two Macs set up side by side and have shared the home directory of my user on the other Mac. Thing is, I've run into a permissions problem. Obviously my old Mac only lets my old user access the files.

Is there any way to migrate the files between users on two Macs manually without resorting to something like "chmod -R 777 ~" to mass change permissions? Ideally, I'd like to just drag the files across and have them automatically change permissions when they're transferred to my new Mac.

Applications :: How Itunes Imports Existing Files

Jan 5, 2010

I'm trying to understand how itunes imports files and where it puts them. Does itunes duplicate existing files when your first install it?

In other words if I have some songs and videos in my computer and I install itunes, I know it will search for files during the installation and add them to the itunes library so, here is where my question comes, does itunes copies the files it finds to the itunes library and leave the exiting files in its original location or it moves them to a new location?

I'm just trying to understand how itunes imports and stores files and where it puts them.

OS X :: How To Get Rid Of Third (Non Existing) Display

Sep 11, 2010

The monitor on the far right is the one in question. I have a dual monitor set up with the other two. I don't know why that third one exists (I don't have a third monitor, TV, or anything else hooked up); it's annoying since windows seem to randomly appear over there and I have to "fish" them out. All I know is that that display is called "Television". Any ideas? I'm running Tiger, fully updated, on a PowerMac G5.

OS X :: Partitioning Existing External HD?

Jan 9, 2010

I have a 250 GB external I've been using for Time Machine since late 2007. I happened to check it today and it was nearly full~so I'm in that process of deleting some of the older data (that process is taking forever).

I would like to partition this external and use some space for iPhoto since my main HD is getting full. Is this a fool's mission? I can understand if I started from scratch but with a nearly full one is it possible?

I do have backup off site (Carbonite)~~maybe it would be easier to erase the external and start fresh?

Applications :: Is There A Way Can Get The Pics Into Pre Existing Folders

Sep 6, 2010

So I have moved all of my photos from my pc over to my mac harddrive. When I look for the pictures in Finder it uses Preview to open the pictures. To see them in iPhoto I guess I have to import all of the pictures? Is that correct? If I do this the pics will be on my machine twice?

Now let's say I have new pics on a camera that i'm trying to get on my machine. Is the only way to import into iPhoto or is there a way I can get the pics into my pre-existing folders?

Applications :: Convert Existing AAC To MP3s?

Jan 25, 2009

I am facing the fact that if I want the most versatile for my music library it is MP3. Now I have more than 200gb of AAC formated music that I want to convert to MP3 and maintain the best quality sound I can.

Older version of iTunes (pre v8) I could go to Advanced > Importing > Convert Selection to ___

Now I cannot find the Convert Selection to ___ option anywhere. In fact when I look at the help file, it refers to the same location as I was used to going to... but the import tab is no longer a tab.. its a button on the General Tab.

OS X :: Time Capsule Or My Existing External Hd?

Mar 12, 2009

I do like the concept of wireless routing/networking capabilities and integrated design of using Time Capsule w my new iMac 1tb HD (STILL not here yet), but am wondering if my 240gb WD HD is sufficient backup storage for the time being.

Maybe I can just spend the $300 for 500GB Time Capsule later on? Or should I just spend the $$$ and stop my sniveling? Once my iMac is delivered, should I take it to the Apple store and have them set it up, or is the setup easy enough for a Windows refugee to handle?

Please give me your feedback regarding this matter. Understand that I really have no wireless networking experience. Anyone whose read my previous threads will further understand that I'm currently a Mac Noob (virgin), and any elementary additional help is greatly appreciated.

OS X :: New MBP And Existing Time Machine Backup

Nov 16, 2009

So I've just got a new MBP to replace my three year old model. I have a full external HDD with Time Machine backups on it going back in time. WHat I'd like to do is to have the new machine use the same disk for Time Machine backups, and to just carry on appending data - so that I can enter Time Machine from the new MBP, and see all of my old backups. I haven't migrated a TM backup onto the new machine, as I wanted a 'clean' install. When I connect the existing TM drive to the new machine, it doesn't recognise that the machine is full of backups - is there a way around this?

Unable To Use Existing Apple ID For ICloud

I have an account I use for iTunes. For reasons I cannot fathom, when I try to sign up for iCloud using that username/password, Lion comes back with "This Apple ID cannot be used to sign in to iCloud. Create a new Apple ID or sign in with a different one." I do NOT want yet another Apple ID and I certainly don't want to have one different from what I use in iTunes for purchases.

ICloud :: Using Existing .me Account On Mail?

May 11, 2012

I have few questions with regards to the above. First here's the facts: I have existing .mac account, but never use it for Mail. Only for iTunes & everything else related to my Mac including this communityI've tried using MobileMe for a trial period and never subscribed to it after it was over. Therefore I also have a .me account under my (chosen) usernameI am currently using MacBook Pro running Lion 10.7.3 I do sync my Mac with iPhone (or vice versa) via iCloud for many apps except Mail Now, I'm trying to enable Mail & Notes from my iCloud setting on my Mac. But it's asking me to create an email address (username@me.com). I tried keying in my existing .me account but obviously that won't work. How do I do this using my existing .me account or better if I can use my .mac account. Personally I prefer my .mac account of course

Is this going to work if I just drop in my old hard drive to my new MBP?
