Applications :: ITunes Library - To Replace Existing Folders'

Aug 13, 2010

I copied my cousin's itunes music folder onto my external hard drive so I could add it to my own.

I dragged the artists into my iTunes music folder.

I was asked whether I wanted to replace existing folders... e.g we both had "Arctic Monkeys" folders.

I CLICKED REPACE ALL... What a mistake.

I'm very much into music and I have lots of songs, whereas my cousin only had a small library.

Now, my "Arctic Monkeys" folder only has a few songs in that she had, and i've lost loads from my library from many artists that both of us had.

OS X :: History Setting Although Set To " Remove History Items After One Day " Does Not?

Oct 2, 2009

I hope this hasn't been covered elsewhere (I can't find it if it has).My problem is that the history setting although set to " Remove history items after one day " does not. I Have reset Safari 4.0.3 and it still doesn't delete the history. Applecare can't seem to solve the problem either. Please help, although this isn't a major problem it is very annoying. This was happening before SL and I was hoping SL upgrade may have fixed this but it hasn't.

OS X Technologies :: Does The Exclusion Of A File Or Directory Remove Any Existing

Mar 15, 2012

Does the exclusion of a file or directory remove any existing, already backed up versions of that file or directory from TimeMachine? I have a large file I don't want backed up every time I connect to my backup drive.  It's 50GB+. I rarely touch the file, and when I do, I don't use it for anything that needs to be saved, it is a historical only version of my Parallels from an older Microsoft OS.  I occasionally need to open it to just look at something, but never 'do' anything with it.

I want to exclude it, but don't want any older version of the file to be removed from backup. Does anyone know if exclusions are retroactive into the TimeMachine database?  Given this is 50GB+, trying it to find out is a quite slow process.

Applications :: How To Remove / Replace Sound On IMovie

Mar 11, 2010

I found the voice-over thing, but when I do that you can still hear the original sound in the background. I need to remove the audio completely from like 2 seconds of footage and replace it with me talking.

to tell you the situation,

i made a video and it has a talking Gecko in it and I'm being told that it's copyright of Geico, even though that's because a company can't copyright an animal. But, anyway. Now where I said "Gecko" i need to say "Lizard" instead.

OS X Mavericks :: Possible To Remove / Replace All Serif Fonts

Sep 6, 2014

I struggle reading text set in serif fonts and I wonder if there is a way to get rid of them altogether. I don't want to see them in the browser, in PDF, or anywhere else. For example, when Safari opens a page requesting

pt-serif-1, pt-serif-2, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;

can make my system report the first two options as unavailable or pretend that they are by rendering Helvetica under that name? at the browser/style level or system-wide.

OS X :: How To Add Files To Existing Zip

Apr 9, 2009

In Windows, if I wanted to add files to an existing zip file, I just dragged the files onto the zip and they would be added. How do I do this on the Mac? Dragging the files in Finder onto the existing zip file doesn't seem to do anything. And if I double click on the zip file, it just gets automatically expanded. So, I don't get any option to add files.

OS X :: Migrating Files Between Macs With Existing Users?

Oct 15, 2010

I've just received my new Mac and I'm wanting to transfer my documents etc. from my old Mac to my new one. I'd rather do it manually than use the migration assistant as I have more control that way.

I've got my two Macs set up side by side and have shared the home directory of my user on the other Mac. Thing is, I've run into a permissions problem. Obviously my old Mac only lets my old user access the files.

Is there any way to migrate the files between users on two Macs manually without resorting to something like "chmod -R 777 ~" to mass change permissions? Ideally, I'd like to just drag the files across and have them automatically change permissions when they're transferred to my new Mac.

Applications :: How Itunes Imports Existing Files

Jan 5, 2010

I'm trying to understand how itunes imports files and where it puts them. Does itunes duplicate existing files when your first install it?

In other words if I have some songs and videos in my computer and I install itunes, I know it will search for files during the installation and add them to the itunes library so, here is where my question comes, does itunes copies the files it finds to the itunes library and leave the exiting files in its original location or it moves them to a new location?

I'm just trying to understand how itunes imports and stores files and where it puts them.

Intel Mac :: When Saving It Does Not Replace Same Name Files In Folder

Mar 30, 2012

When saving files to my folder on the desktop from the Mac Email, it does not replace same name files. Instead it makes a new file by adding (-1, -2, etc.) at the end of the file. Is there a setting somewhere that makes it so that this does not happen?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Can't Replace Files In My Utilities Folder

Jun 19, 2012

I'm tired of having to jump thru hoops to replace files in my Utilities folder with updated versions. First I have to move the old file to the trash, but I have to enter my password. Then I copy the new file to the Utilities folder but, again, I have to enter my password. Much less user friendly than older versions of Mac OSX (and even Classic). I'm guessing it has to do with security, though I can replace files in the Applications folder without so much effort.I'm guessing the permissions of the Utilities folder have to be changed but changed to what? I want to be able to simply drag an updated application file to the Utilities folder and replace the old one without so much effort.

OS X :: Unix Command In Terminal To Replace Certain Characters In Files?

I have a boat load of mp3 files that have a _ instead of a space in the file name. I figure there must be a magical command in the Unix terminal window that would rename the file based on a replacement string.

I want to replace all _ in a file name with a Space. Is there an easy way to do this? Or, maybe a free utility I can download? I'm trying to clean up my files!

MacBook :: How To Remove Partially Downloaded Files In 10.6

Mar 9, 2012

I could not find any recent helpful answers via Google, but eventually discovered, by trial and error, that you need to delete the failed downloads in three places namely:  /Library/Updates (this is probably unnecessary)

and the *two* files here:- /private/var/folders/<complicated long path>/<name> where <name> ends in .pkg and also in .pkg.resumeData (i.e. the "same name" twice)

I found out where these were being saved by (*immediately* after the update-failure), typing find /private/var/folders -newerct "1 minute ago" -name "*.resumeData" and sure enough, these corresponded to the failed downloads. I removed them with sudo rm /private/var/folders/<complicated long path discovered via find/<name>.pgk sudo rm /private/var/folders/<complicated long path discovered via find/<name>.pgk.resumeData

and then the software update started working again instead of always aborting with e.g. "iTunes: partially downloaded" etc. The reason for the original failure is my poor internet service that constantly breaks halfway through any long-ish downloads.

An example of the actual filepath on my 10.6.8 Mac OSX is:

/private/var/folders/02/027LjtRMGXSZNggzpqLQg++++TI/-Caches-/com.apple.SoftwareU pdate/swcdn.apple.com/content/downloads/<same amount again in length>

in other words, really long winded and very difficult to find (I have been trying to do this all day and could not find anything via the www) - I hope it helps you!
