View 2 Repliesis there a way to change the extension of a bunch of files, i am guessing using a terminal command. What I want is that I have .m4a files that I want to change to .m4b so I can bookmark them.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI get datalogger files every night that come in the .dat format.I need to process them in OpenOffice.calc to show the results. OO.calc will not read a .dat file, but if I manually change the .dat to .csv it works fine.I don't know enough about Automator to write the script.Doing it by record doesn't work.

Can I merge multiple files, and multiple file types, into a single PDF with my MacBook Pro?, Can I merger multiple files, and multiple file types, into a single PDF with my MacBook Pro?Â
I need to combine word docs, .jpgs, .PDFs, .pptx files from multiple sources into a single PDF. In the past I've used software such as Nuance but I'm wondering if there's something in the MacBook Pro OS or applications that support this function.Â

I have set up an automator service that TAR's a folder into an archive for me and it works quite nicely. Idealy however, I would like to be able to highlight several folders, right click and have automator tar each folder into it's own TAR archive, but do it one by one. Â
[Code]...
I'm not 100% sure so I guess it would be a good time to verify, is there a problem with having the system try to TAR multiple folders at one time? If it is not a problem then I guess this discussion itself is pointless and I can simple right click on each folder and select "TAR Folder" and just wait until they're all finished. I would think that it would be ideal for the system to do each one individually and not try to do them all at one time.Â
I could do it individually, but I am wondering and hoping there is an easier way. I have a bunch of .docx, .pptx, and .pdf files that need the extension after them.
View 15 Replies View RelatedI was trying to play some video files with a .wmv extension. I thought I had done this before through Windows Media Player, but this time I got an error message saying something about Real Audio being incompatible with Quick Time. I also tried copying and pasting the video URL into the Windows Media Player window for that purpose, but it still wouldn't play. What is the nature of this problem? I'm uneasy about not being able to play video that is in a widely used format as well as about that quirky Real AUdio/QuickTime message. This is all very confusing!
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just got my new MacbookPro. It is annoying that the Terminal is set as the default opener for those files without an extension name. For example, a file like "car" will be opened by the terminal when I double click it. The terminal will execute each line of the file as a command. Is there any way to set TextEdit.app as the default opener for any file that is not explicitly assigned to an application?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI been trying to quicklook files without extension that are plain text, like make files. I had found some really useful website likes this one (URL) but it seems I always need to declare a extension.
So I would like to know if someone knows how to quicklook text files without extension.

View 3 Replies View RelatedSafari downloads .wav files from my dictation manager web site with a .exe extension. I'm assuming this has something to do with the MIME types defined on that page. I can't fix that as the web page is not under my control. Is there a way I can tell Safari not to do that, or how to handle these files?

I need to distinguish between MP4 and MOV files without using the extension .mov or .mp4.Â
If I use FTYP major_brand = 'qt ' as the distinguishing factor, is that sufficient? Or do I need some information from compatible_brands as well?
Can we have mov files where major_brand != 'qt ', Ex If 'qt ' is one of the compatible_brands but not major_brand: would we call it a valid mov file?
At times I would like to gather all files of a certain extension (aif or jpg or xlsx or¦) in one location. By adding the extension parameter to the finder's FIND command, I can easily see them all, but that's only the first half. How do I now move, or copy them all into a single folder, say, on the desktop?

is there an app that can do this but only change the file extesion case & not the rest of the file name.ie; Sossity_1234.JPG to Sossity_1234.jpgalot of apps will go from;Sossity_1234.JPG to sossity_1234.jpg, they will change everything to lower case, & I only want the file extension to be lower case.
View 4 Replies View Relatedmy wife and i share a computer, but use seperate accounts for seperate mail accounts, etc. here is a problem that bothers me from time to time: when one of us creates a new file/folder, by default it is read-only to the other user. we are both administrators on the machine, but still we run into permissions issues. for myself, i can override the settings for a particular file/folder by changing the permissions, but my wife is not so technical. we trust eachother and prefer to have complete access to eachother's files, since we share many.
is there a way to set default permissions for new files/folders to be more open, easier to share with multiple users? also a related question i've had is, is it possible to share a common iphoto/itunes library between two different user accounts? for example, when one person uploads a new itunes album or new photos, for the other person's library to be automatically updated as well?
I have my media on a NAS (Qnap 451) and have added my existing videos to my library (without copying them locally to my library), and of course they show up as home videos. I know how you are supposed to change theinfo for multiple files, I select them all and choose get info and change the options tab to Movie. When I do that nothing happens at all, I can do the files one at a time and they change fine, but if I even select just two files it doesn't work.

I have multiple screens on my Mac Pro. A normal screen, a projector and a USB-to-DVI converter. When I log in the login screen appears on either the projector or the converter screens. Not on the normal screen. I need to drag the cables out for the login to enter on the normal screen. The normal screen is set to the primary screen so thats not the problem.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to sort my files by date and type. I can sort by Modified Date and File Type. Every time I sort by file type, the files are listed alphabetically within their folder type lists. This is not what I want. I want to see all the .rar files in chronological order
As I recall from Windows, I can sort by Modified Date, then Type, and the files will be listed by type, and then secondarily sorted by Date. Is there a way to do this on the Mac?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI feel dumb asking this, but I'm trying to create an Automator workflow to rename multiple picture files and once and I've used this tutorial... The problem is that when I right-click my files or hit "control" and click the files I want to use I don't get an option that says "more" (see second picture of tutorial) so I can get the files into Automator. In place of "more" at the bottom of the Contextual menu I have an option that says "Set Desktop Picture". How can I get my files into Automator??
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have about 60 gigs of music. Each file is named "artistname - song name". How can I take the artist name out of all of them without timing my clicking to rename them. Also, I found that quite a few cds are actually named like "artist.name.song.name" for some reason. Now windows lets me push the tab key and will let me keep going without using the mouse which is way less time consuming. Is there a way I can do that on a Mac? Will automator work for what I am doing?

How do I decompress all of them to the same folder? On windows and winrar, you just select all of them, right click and choose decompress to aaa.
How can I do the same with a Mac? I don't mind having to use another software, except that Stuffit, the Unarchiver and Springy are all useless as they don't integrate with the finder context menu nor do they have that option anywhere.
I would like to transfer my iTunes library to my phone to use as a secondary/backup iPod. The problem is that I have a lot of music, and iTunes organizes the music by putting music in separate folders via artist, and then more separate folders by album. This means there is no easy way to transfer all of my music over. I'd have to manually click on every folder, and copy songs one by one, which would take a super long time.
Is there a way to like select my iTunes Music folder and be able to get all of my music?
I'm looking for a Windows program to convert a list of MP3 files into one m4b file that has usable chapters. I found a program merge the files together and convert, but it doesn't keep the mp3 files as "chapters". It just lumps them all together. Trying to load my iPod up with all sorts of audio books.

Some of the hard drives will not always be mounted, but I will still want to see the contents the last time they were mounted
