Sep 21, 2010I could do it individually, but I am wondering and hoping there is an easier way. I have a bunch of .docx, .pptx, and .pdf files that need the extension after them.

I was trying to play some video files with a .wmv extension. I thought I had done this before through Windows Media Player, but this time I got an error message saying something about Real Audio being incompatible with Quick Time. I also tried copying and pasting the video URL into the Windows Media Player window for that purpose, but it still wouldn't play. What is the nature of this problem? I'm uneasy about not being able to play video that is in a widely used format as well as about that quirky Real AUdio/QuickTime message. This is all very confusing!
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just got my new MacbookPro. It is annoying that the Terminal is set as the default opener for those files without an extension name. For example, a file like "car" will be opened by the terminal when I double click it. The terminal will execute each line of the file as a command. Is there any way to set TextEdit.app as the default opener for any file that is not explicitly assigned to an application?

View 2 Replies View RelatedSafari downloads .wav files from my dictation manager web site with a .exe extension. I'm assuming this has something to do with the MIME types defined on that page. I can't fix that as the web page is not under my control. Is there a way I can tell Safari not to do that, or how to handle these files?

I need to distinguish between MP4 and MOV files without using the extension .mov or .mp4.Â
If I use FTYP major_brand = 'qt ' as the distinguishing factor, is that sufficient? Or do I need some information from compatible_brands as well?
Can we have mov files where major_brand != 'qt ', Ex If 'qt ' is one of the compatible_brands but not major_brand: would we call it a valid mov file?
is there a way to change the extension of a bunch of files, i am guessing using a terminal command. What I want is that I have .m4a files that I want to change to .m4b so I can bookmark them.
View 5 Replies View RelatedAt times I would like to gather all files of a certain extension (aif or jpg or xlsx or¦) in one location. By adding the extension parameter to the finder's FIND command, I can easily see them all, but that's only the first half. How do I now move, or copy them all into a single folder, say, on the desktop?

Is there a search extension out there that will display the first result from each of your installed search engines as you type? For example, says I type "Adam" and I have google, facebook, IMDB, and Wikipedia as my search engins; the extension would display the first result from google, facebook, etc in the window that pops up as you type. Then if I hit return (without clicking anything that pops up) it would take me to my default search (google).

View 4 Replies View RelatedI used Ripit to rip a DVD (Dark Knight, for the curious) onto my Mac. Fine. But it rips with this ridiculous '.dvdmedia' extension that isn't compatible with anything but DVD Player. I really wanted to put it into GarageBand or iMovie HD and fiddle around with it to make music videos. I know I could use Get Info to change the extension, but I'm not sure what's really the best format for iMovie HD either. And yes, I know there's a million better rippers for Mac, but Handbrake confuses me, Handbrake Lite and Aimersoft just kind of freeze, and MacTheRipper just sort of scans for the rest of eternity even with VLC in my applications drive?

View 4 Replies View RelatedMany of the extensions I've seen (Share to Facebook, Instasafari, etc.,) already have existing bookmarklets. What's the difference between a bookmarklet and an extension? It seems like the bookmarklet would be better resource-wise because it's only used when it's needed whereas an extension (I guess?) runs with the browser itself.
