How do i transfer all my info from my old computer to a new one?
Info:MacBook, Mac OS X (10.7)
I got to work yesterday and opened my iBook. Nothing. So I turned it on. Nothing. I checked the battery and it was dead. I let it charge all day it did not charge. I put a new battery in it today. Before I put the battery in it had 3 bars of life left. As soon as I put it in it went down to 1. It still won't power on. Any ideas? All of my info for work is on this computer. I am getting a Macbook soon so is there any way to transfer info from a non working computer?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to install a new, larger HD in my macbook and then make it my primary computer. Currently, I have most of my info on my aging G5 iMac which is slowly starting to fall apart (i.e. optical drive/keyboard no longer work, making strange noises, etc.). I know that, once I put a new, larger HD in my macbook, I will have to format it and install Leopard. Is there a way to then transfer all of my info from the iMac to the new HD in the macbook after I put Leopard on it? I currently have a Time Machine'd backup external HD hooked up to my iMac.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a MacBook Pro. I previously owned a MacBook and have a bunch of personal info and preferences on it. I used migration assistant about a month ago. It worked pretty well but some of my apps weren't there or weren't functioning well. My new MBP seems like it is unorganized. I want to erase my HDD (just install OSX again, right?) and start fresh. Is there another way to transfer my info over to my new MBP? Maybe pick and choose EXACTLY what I want transfered... I don't think migration assistant gave me an option to select individual apps.

How do I transfer files - in particular photos and iTunes stuff. Migration assistant does not work - it just spends hours looking for other computers. I could not get hold of a Thunderbolt/Firewire converter (none in stock). I have got a thunderbolt to ethernet converter but cannot seem to do anything with this.
So it seems that after a few months our computers, yes even our macs, slow down a bit. I just purchased a new macbook pro and am wondering on the best route to take as I transfer files from my old macbook to the new pro. I've read about doing it from a TimeMachine backup as well as just using the migration assistant. But, will moving my files slow down my new computer and make it act like an "old computer" since it will have basically all of the old files?

I just purchased my first MacBook pro with Mac OS X 10.7.2. Before my other laptop crashed, I did a system backup on an external hard dirve. I know there is a way to transfer data from a windows laptop to a Mac, however, that computer is not working. Can I transfer the data from the external hardrive, which is everthing from my old computer, to my Mac without opening every file and manually transfering? Will Mac be able to identify what files are compatible?

I just purchased a new MacBook Pro as an upgrade from my MacBook Black Intel Core Duo. Is it better to set-up the new computer with my old files by connecting a FireWire between both computers or should I simply hook up my external hard drive with all my Time Machine Back-ups as the source for the new info?

I need to get files off of my damaged Macbook and I'm not sure how to do it. Is there a way to transfer files from my macbook to another computer? View 8 Replies View RelatedSnow Leopard (10.6.8) became corrupted resulting in not being able to shut down my 1/2007 Intel Core 2 Duo MacBookPro and not being able to download numerous programs and updates. I backed-up my laptop, took it into the Apple Store where they wiped the hard disc clean and reloaded the OS. They suggested I use Migration Assistant to restore my backed up information to my laptop, but ALL of my settings from Desktop, to the Dock, to Finder, to screen savers, to Safari bookmarks, to all of my Mail inboxes, archives and smart email boxes, and to Documents and all of my files and their organization, to iTunes, to Address Book, to Calendar are GONE. Do I need to do some more formal kind of a restore from my back-up drive to recover/restore this information and "get my laptop back" or is it all lost?

So I already placed my order for my new iMAC. I have a MacBook (2006) with iLife 08.
My question is: When I get to transfer my MacBook info into my new iMAC, will i encounter any problems with my iLife files being that I have iLife 08, and the new iMac's come with iLife 09? The Time Machine transfer won't bring the new iMac software back to 08 will it?
Just want to be sure before I set this up.
