I would like to sync my imac and my laptop, but more than just like contacts and such...I want it to sync all my music and files on its own. is there an app that does this? (preferably free) or would I be better off trying to go at it on my own. thoughts guys?
View 3 RepliesI'm using iTunes 10.5.3 (3) on Mac OS X 10.7.3 When I drag and drop music from my iTunes library onto the iPad the iPad will first start to 'sync' but I'll notice that it immediately starts to try and sync up all of my music (I have more music than I have space on my iPad so that would just fail eventually but it starts the slow wi-fi sync of all my music). I check the settings for the iPad (via iTunes) and I notice that the Music tab's "sync" option has suddenly been enabled again (when I've previously turned it off).Â
This is very strange and annoying as all I want to do is copy music from iTunes onto my iPad. I can do this no problem with my iPhone (has the same sync settings turned off and that doesn't re-enable the sync setting when I drag and drop music from iTunes to it? The only difference from my iPad is that i have the apps tab 'sync' option turned on - see P.s below for more on that)Â
if I turn off syncing of apps for my iPad I get a message that tells me 22 apps will be deleted and that all data will be lost as well. I'm assuming because some apps I've paid for and some are free I'll be able to re-download them no problem, it's just that some apps have extra settings/configurations on them that I'd rather not lose and I just don't see how turning off the 'sync' option would affect them? Just leave them on the iPad device and stop trying to sync them with iTunes??

I am running out of space on my laptop so I am moving all my music to an external hard drive. If I keep my file directory structure and naming the same, can I simply "re-point" iTunes to this new storage location and all my songs (etc...) will keep working in iTunes? Will storing the music on an external hard drive effect the performance (speed) of iTunes and/or iPod syncing?

What I am trying to do is sync two folders (one on my computer and another on my USB stick) and have those two folders sync'ed. Most programs I have found just sync from one folder to another but I would like it two way Ie if I create a new file on the USB stick and uni and also create a new file on my computer at home, I would like both these files to sync.

Every time I try to sync my phone, iTunes locks up for 30-40 mins then comes good....
I finally ripped my music into digital format. It is a very large library so I performed the rips in four segments creating four folders of music. The highest level folders are Music1, Music2, Music3, Music4. The next layer folder is the artists name, then album name, then the actual MP3S.
How do I merge the folders? If I perform a copy the first artist name is sees that already is exists, the finder wants me to skip the copy or replace the folder that is there. I simply want to add the folder or merge it. Is there a "merge" function in OSX? I tried Carbon Copy but it will not copy or sync fils on the same disk.
I currently have an external hardrive connected to my time capsule. On this external HD I have all my music and movies stored. I use my MacBook Pro to access these remotely via the wireless network. This enables me to access my movies and music without having to clog up my MBP hard drive with these large files. I am however concerned with loosing my music and movies if I have an external HD failure. I would like to sync this external HD with another ext HD. Does anybody know of a good simple syncing software that will ensure that when I add a movie or album to one ext hd, it is synced to another ext HD? This does not have to be automatic, it can work on frequency/time basis. Microsoft have SyncToy which I understand performs this function. Do we have something similar for the Mac OS?
View 1 Replies View RelatedNormally I have my music stored on an external HD. When I sync my iPhone the music is synced with the content of the external drive. Were I not to have the drive turned on during the sync, iTunes would delete the music on my iPhone as it would sync the "no music" on my pc with the music on my iPhone. Now I am traveling and will be away from my external HD for about a month. I would like to add some apps to my iPhone but if I do a sync I will lose all that music until I can get back home. Not what I want to have happen. Is there any way to prevent iTunes from syncing the music, i.e. just letting what's there alone and syncing the rest of the content?

I have been encountering a current issue that I find to be alarming, and want to know if anyone else knows how to remedy the issue. I have OS X Lion and all my software is up to date; I have an iPad 2 and it is also up to date. There has been an issue when I try to sync my music from iTunes to my iPad. It gets to the final stage of syncing, and then the music starts to download, and then it will only download a couple songs onto the iPad and then the computer will freeze. It forces me to completely shut down my computer, and it is really concerning me now. The whole computer is moving completely slow, almost to the point where a simple click on an application causes the rainbow spinning wheel.

So I can finally sync with MobileMe (no thanks to Apple, who have still not replied to my email a week later). My contacts are fine, but the calendar only shows my Home and Work calendars. Why aren't the rest showing up? Am I missing something?

I know there is a $60 service that does this, but there must be a free way! I've had no luck searching Google for answers... Why I want to sync with GC is because I want my family to be able to see my calendars, but I don't like using GC, I much rather enjoy using iCal. Much nicer user interface; unlike Google which is very bland. (As is Google's way) Anyone able to help me out?
o iTunes is no "GOOD" music player - iTunes is yet another player that can only handle a few file formats/codecs and cause of that is utterly bull.

But I don't like to use iTunes all the time... there are times when I download a bunch of music and just don't have time to organize it and make sure it's tagged correctly, so I don't wanna add it to my iTunes library just yet...
so I am wondering, is there any other good music players out there that you might know of? I don't need it to go ahead and organize my music, I just need it to be able to open individual tracks or music off a folder and play it. A player with an appealing UI and shuffle mode would be ideal. I tried Vox btw, but it's kinda ugly though.

In the past they would show up in video icon, but now they no longer do.

When setting up an iphone to synch with the lion server, why does it only present mail and notes for synch? 3. I cannot edit user's shortnames via WGM. Even so, it wouldn't accomplish what i need. So i'm fine with just manually creating aliases. I tried to edit the postfix aliases file for a test alias group: user1, user2 Doesn't work even after restarting mail it says it's unknown user. Mailman doesn't work the way i expected. I need to create distrobution groups, not a maillist. Â

I can't seem to find a way to continue to sync my iPod Touch to my Mac without it automatically syncing over the iPod's Safari bookmarks to my Safari on the computer. I want to keep this bookmarks separate but every time it still wants to sync the Safari data on the iPod to the Safari data on the Mac.

The data on the iPhone is corrupt, restore it (or something similar, my iOS is in German). iTunes did not even recognize my iPhone anymore.Â
So I did restore the iPhone from the last backup from a few days ago. Everything looks fine during the backup process. iTunes resets the iPhone, then syncs all my music (about 16 GB or some 4,000 titles).Â
But after completing, the music is not there! The iPhone's memory is filled with 18GB "other data" (the yellow one, you know), and when I open "music" on the iPhone, it is completely empty. Â
Obviously iTunes DOES transfer the music files to the iPhone, but they do not "arrive" there properly.Â

I bought an imac 24" 4 months ago and set up individual access accounts on the mac for me and my daughters. I then set up an itunes account for each and I started to pay into their accounts for them to purchase some music and all was fine after syncing each nano with their access account and itunes account.
However, it quickly became apparent that they could not share their music between account even though they are on the same computer. I have tried various searches but to be honest some of the methods suggested I just dont understand hence my appearance here.
Can I now save the music they have purchased etc and take it all to one account and then sync them again with the one itunes account or would i be better to keep the different accounts and change the set-up so that they can see and sync with each others music.
I just recently bought a white macbook and it came with over 2000 music files is this normal?
