I am sooo frustrated with setting up and transmitting a signal from iTunes to my Airport Express from my new MacBook Pro. my dyslexic brain to blast through my stereo? I can't get NUTHIN to work, and there are so many approaches.
View 3 RepliesI just set up a second AirPort Express - connected to the home stereo - to allow the Mac laptops to push iTunes music to the home stereo system wirelessly. This worked on the first try. See, I'm a recently converted PC guy... I'm used 15-20 attempts followed by a few calls to the tech support...
So, as soon as the novelty wore off (it hasn't completely) I tried to network the iPhone... couldn't do it. I can't find where to swap the speaker from "Computer" to "Stereo" (the name assigned to the AirPort).
Is this possible? Should I just be happy with the laptop?
I've been using airport express for a year, but lately the airport utility ceased recognising my airport express. No matter what I did, nothing changed.I took it to my friends house, to try it on his mac, and the utility found it and the strangest thing was that my macbook (at my friends house) also found the airport express in the airport utility menu. But when I took it back to my place same thing happened, the utility could not find the wireless device. What could be the causing this? I mean, it worked at my place before and now it doesn't, but it works at my friends house. Could there be something that interferes with the apple airport express frequency?

Would I need to instal any drivers from the printer since it would be a network printer? I'm pretty confused as to how wireless printing works with the Airport Express.

View 8 Replies View RelatedSo I just bought a new revision Airport Express, so from reading I've learned that the AE can act as a bridge/wireless extender for my AEBS (dual-band), my question is, can it only do either N-5ghz or G2.4ghz, and not both at the same time? Also can anyone give me some ideas on Real Life range I should expect to get with it? If I can in fact only do one band, I'll be doing the G band as N pretty much covers everywhere but G isn't so good at penetrating the walls it seems.

Also, I have my hard drive partitioned and one side is Windows and the other is Linux and if I install AirPort Express under Windows and setup the setting and all and I boot to Linux, will the AirPort Express still be working or will it only work if your under Windows?
I just got an airport express. airtunes works fine, but for some reason I cant get it to create a wireless network when i plug in the ethernet cable, it just tells me the Ethernet is Unplugged. The cable works, as I am using it to connect now.
The setup is :

The light on the airport express device is green and the computer suggests I am connected to it.
When trying to print, though, i get a message that the printer is off-line, and in addition, the wireless network sometimes drops altogether.
I'm seriously considering buying the iPad wifi. Without a LAN port, I was wondering how I would be able to connect the iPad to the internet when I'm travelling. Then I read up about portable routers and lo and behold, the Apple Airport Express was mentioned.So, would this set up work in a hotel?
1. I plug the Airport Express to the hotel high-speed internet via LAN cable
2. I connect my work notebook (much loathed Lenovo Thinkpad running WindowsXP Pro) using wifi to the internet via the Airport Express
3. I connect my iPhone to the internet via the Airport Express (using wifi of course)
4. I connect my iPad to the internet via the Airport Express (using wifi)
If the above will work, is setting up Airport Express to the hotel high-speed internet via LAN cable an easy or hard exercise?

I've got an Airport Express that, when connected to the existing wireless network, continues to blink an amber light (No IP address, right?).
I've had the Airport Express create its own network, and I can stream music through to it just fine. When I have it join the network my laptop uses, the light just keeps blinking yellow, and I have to hard reset it to be able to get to its configuration again. iTunes never sees it.
the iPhone, new iPod touch and classic can use their headphone jack as a mic in with the new iPhone headphones for voice recording... can the MBA?

It works just fine when i have it as my wireless router for my macbook and my pc when i have it locked using a WPA password. When i have it locked though it will not work with my xbox 360 and linksys wireless gaming adapter [URL:..] which i have. When i unlock the WPA and leave the airport express unlocked it will work with my macbook and my xbox 360, but it then wont work with my pc. I do not personally care about the pc, but my wife does. I also would like to have it locked and WORK with all three devices. Anyone have any suggestions for this lost soul?

I've tried to get two different headsets to work, Motorola S9 and Altec Backbeats - neither are installing correctly. I am getting a driver failed to install issue on Windows 7. The solution offered is to download the latest Broadcam device drivers, but the application is taking forever to detect my headset. I was hoping that Windows 7 would be an upgrade to BT over Windows XP, but I guess not. I guess I'll need to go back to Fry's and get another version of XP.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have an Airport Extreme, with two USB hard drives connected to it. The Airport Extreme shares these disks to my wireless network via Airport Disks.
Upstairs I have an Airport Express, that wirelessly connects to my Airport Extreme downstairs, and extends the wireless network so I get a good wireless reception upstairs.
My problem is, that it does not seem like me Airport Express does a good job of forwarding my 2 USB Airport Disks to the extended wireless network upstairs.
For example, when I use the AirVideo iPhone app to stream video from my USB Airport Disks I get a server connection error when I go upstairs and the iPad/iPhone switches to the Airport Express networks. I cannot reconnect as long as it is on the Airport Express network. If I turn the airport Express off, and thus switch to the poor wireless reception from the Airport Extreme, I can connect to the USB Airport disks again.
The Airport Express is connected to the Airport Extreme in bridged mode.
Just a question for those who have used the Airports. Can a USB hub be used to expand the number of devices the Airport can use? i.e., an external hd, a laserjet, and an inkjet.

I have an old Airport Express (A1088).I am running OSX 10.9.4 - I have downloaded Airport Utility 5.6 and yet cannot install - I am getting "This version of Mac OS X on this volume is not supported".Unfortunately no PC or old Mac available. After configuring wireless security on my Airport Extreme base station, the Airport Express I use to stream iTunes music to my whole-house stereo system has disappeared. Airport Utility can't see it. Yes, I checked connections. All I get is a blinking yellow light on the Express. The base station works as its supposed to.
I have a 17" Powerbook G4 with a 1.33 GHz Power PC processor. I'm running MacOS 10.5.8
MBP 2.2; OSX 10.4.11; Airport Express 802.11n (version 7.3.2); WD MyBook 320GB (format Mac OS Extended) I'm trying to get the WD HDD setup as a wireless hard drive, but it's not showing up at all in Airport Utility (I don't even have a 'disk' tab in the 'manual setup' menu). Airport Disk Utility just says "no airport disks found." Of course the HDD works fine when plugged in directly to the MBP. I've searched apple support and these forums, but haven't found anything that works yet. All help I have found says use the 'disk tab' in AE manual setup window. What do I do without a 'disk' tab? (or how do I get one?) is this a firmware/software issue with the AE?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI currently have the apple extreme as my wireless router. It works great. I absolutely love it. I have two macbook pro's (wife and I both have one) and use it for my PS3 and Xbox 360. I started a new job and was given a free HP desktop (not my choice, but hey, it's free, so what can I say). The desktop is not wireless and I am not able to put my computer near the airport extreme because my TV already owns that territory. Today I bought the Airport express to use as a bridge (and other things in the future). I have plugged it in. I opened the airport utility using my macbook. It finds my extreme and my express. I select that I want to set up the express. I select that I want to set it up using an existing wireless network. I select my airport extreme. It tells me that it has to restart the express. I wait approximately 3 minutes. It then tells me that the settings to the express have been changed but it's not able to find it.
My main goal is to use the express as a bridge. I have the express plugged in beside the desktop and want to run an ethernet cable from the express to the desktop to allow for wireless capability.
AirPort Express doesn't show up in AirPort Utility 6.0. I haven't updated the AirPort utility on my laptop, and can find it there. 6.0 doesn't even has a scan button... I've done a hard reset of the AirPort Express, still isn't showing up.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently moved into a new apartment that has an Airport Express connected to a cable modem. The network does not have a password. I want to put a password on it so that not everyone in the building can use our internet.
When I connect to the Airport via the Airport Utility, it recognizes the Airport, but asks for a password when I try to configure it. I tried doing a soft reset on the Airport, but it didn't change anything. Are there two passwords for an Airport? If so, how can I bypass the second one? The "Resetting Airport Express" page at [URL] doesn't answer this question. Do I need to do a hard reset? If so, is there anything I need to know about that? We no longer have any of the original literature that came with the product.
I am upgrading from a g wireless router to an n. I have a Belkin right now that I hate. Neither I, on a mac, nor my roommate, on a PC, can get a consistent connection on it. Needless to say it's going back and I want to get an express or an extreme. I had actually bought an Airport Extreme first and it was lightening fast, but I was told that the Express was just as fast, so I went to exchange. The guy at BestBuy told me the Belkin was cheaper and just as fast, so I bought it. I would really like this to be my last trip to the store for a router. Do I need to shell out for the Extreme or is the Express just as fast if all you need is an n router?

Sometimes, it connects on the first try, other times I have to turn the airport, on the MBP, on and off several times before it will connect. Sometimes that won't even work, so I put the mbp to sleep, wake it back up, then it will connect. Once connected, it works fine and never have any of the disconnect problems I have read about.
The other weird thing is that at the office, where we use non-apple wireless access points, I never see an issue.

I got a Mac Book Air, and bought the Airport Extreem, because I want to stream music to my HIFI system from ITunes. I have no external DVD/CD drive, so I have to use REMOTE DISK, from my windows based PC. My remote disk seems to work, but when I put in the installation CD that came with me Airport Express unit, I can only see two pdf files, Quicktime, but I cannot see the Airport Admin Utility. Is the REMOTE DISK facility completely transperant, so it should show everything on the CD, on the remote drive, or can there be files that REMOTE DISK will not give access to from my Airport Air? In other words, how can I install Airport Express on my Airport Air, via REMOTE DISK, form a XP windows based PC?

I have a uni MBP that has wireless internet and printing through an airport express (just internet and printing, not using Airtunes feature).
I bought a MBA last night and am trying to get it to work as well. It works just fine as far as wireless internet, but the wireless printing simply will not work. I have the printer listed in my MBA and all airport express utility settings seem to be A-OK, it just will not print wirelessly from the MBA. The printer queue just gives me the old Error 300: The printer does not respond.
