I am trying to drag an item to move it into another folder in the same finder window, but it disappears after 1 second. It is the same way I have always did it, I click on it & can drag across the whole screen from window to window, but now it just disappears. And if I am not close to my destination, it will just move to whatever folder I am over at the time w/o me letting go of the mouse.
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to trash two things called MEMSTICK.IND and MSTK_PRO.IND. They have little locks by them and I can't drag them into the garbage. If I can get them into the garbage I can delete them but I can't get them into the trash. They were in there before but someone dragged them out.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed Skype on my new macbook (13" 2.0 Gz) a few months ago. However, I've had a problem and I just don't know how to fix it! You know when you download an application, it comes onto your desktop and you're supposed to drag the Icon into the Applications file? Well, my Skype won't do that. It will drag into it, but then it says it already exists. Thus, I still have that ugly icon on my desktop instead of the regular one. I've tried to eject and reinstall, but nothing works.

Nothing I do, can delete the file, interrupt the process or arrest the spinning progress wheel. Other Symptoms The rest of the system (OSX 10.7.3) has become sluggish and Paralles 7 / Windows 7 won't open. Some preferences in Mail (from whiuch the pdf origintaed) have become corrupted or lost. Now, Finder wont reveal certain document sub-folders which were connected with the 'dragging' operation, but shows them empty even though I have since moved files into them.

I've had a text file on my desktop for a while, I dragged it from one side of the screen to the other. When I let go of the mouse button the file disappeared! Its not in the trash, I've tried arranging files just in case it was hidden, no where to be found.

I am dragging and dropping a logo into Mail.app signature pane. The image is saved as a jpg, when I drag into the mail signature pane it's file name is 'PastedGraphic.tiff'. I am assuming there is file format preference somewhere that can keep the image either it's original format, or convert to a jpg, vs. a .tifÂ
Most other email clients won't display this format. .

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm new to mac and I've noticed that I can have 2 gigs of memory one day and the next I'm down to 24 or something. I've noticed that if I open a file in Itunes and then change the info that there are now 2 files in the finder, one with the old info and the new with the new metadata. Why does OS-X do that?!
Also, if I have 1 gig of memory left (out of 180 or so) why does it disappear to 0 if I open photoshop? I'm used to a PC running virtual memory and CPU but why does the Mac actually take away my available memory?

I have been using iTunes with my Apple TV's and other devices (iPad's/iPhone's, MacBook etc)But up until a few weeks ago streaming from my main iMac (Master iTunes Library) worked pretty much flawlessly.But not the other devices quite often do not open the iMac Library (Mediaserver)I have to close and reopen iTunes on the iMac and then the devices can fully open, see all content and stream it fine.

I'm not sure why but whenever I go onto the internet, my wallpaper disappears and it turns blue. If I want to restore it I have to click on a different wallpaper in system preferences then click back to the one I want.

Background: MBP 17", 4gb ram, lots of disk space, OSX 10.5.6, all apps located on system disk drive.
Problem: every so often, a random icon will just disappear from the Dock. Today it was Firefox, about a month ago it was iTunes. I can add them back, but why do they leave in the 1st place.
I am running Snow Leopard and Time Capsule on a 2009 mini. The last few days files have been randomly disappearing from my desktop. I then must search for the files and with no luck cannot find them. I then have to roll back my time capsule to recover the files. I did not initiate the removal of files and no one else has had access to my computer. This has happened twice. Does anyone know how to fix this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a small problem that didn't happen previously. As you know, when you download something on mac, a download window appears and you see the download progress. And when it's down you simply click on the file to open it, within that same window. But recently all my downloads disappear after they finish downloading and I have to go into Finder and into the downloads folder to find my file which gets a little inconvenient when downloads pile up in the folder. Does anyone know how to fix this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a mid 2009 MacBook Pro (13 inch) 2.53 GHz (Core 2 Duo) with 4 GB RAM. I have a problem- I am sure that I have only used about 15GB space. I have no apps above 1GB. I also have a BootCamp partition. When I click on my OSX (Snow Leopard 10.6) partition (Macintosh HD), the capacity shown is 215GB and remaining is 158GB. About 40GB space just vanished! I used OmniDiskSweeper. The results were that there was 34.1GB being used in Users>.Tusing>Tusing.sparsebundle>bands. In "bands", there are hundreds of 8MB files. What should I do with them? Are they important? Can I delete them? Thank you for your help. I am new to this site. If you do not have an answer, please bump this thread (if thats possible in this forum). UPDATE: I can't see the hidden files in Finder, so should I use defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool true to see them? UPDATE: I will keep FileVault on.

In Snow Leopard, all 9GB were available, now only 7 GB are displayed. According to the memory info, 2 slots (with 1GB each) are 'empty'. I bought all RAM from Crucial.Â

I have 4GB of RAM on my (aging) MacBook Pro and use a very useful app called Memory Clean to maximize the RAM from time to time.Â
Recently, my laptop has been getting slower and slower to the degree that even opening windows in Finder brings it an almost complete standstill. When I checked the RAM it had decreased to under 10MB.Â
What I've found is that I can run Memory Clean and the more I run it, the more is freed up and the quicker the laptop runs (up to 2GB+ being available). However, within minutes it is plummeting again and so I have to rerun Memory Clean. Suffice to say, the laptop as a whole seems to be struggling.Â
What can I do-and is this a hard drive failing issue or something else?
My bluetooth mouse ran out of battery and I was trying to do some keyboard only navigation. Somehow I turned on an option that places a totally annoying black box or rectangle around whatever item is active and has focus. This could be an icon in the finder or text in a warning box.
I tried to take a screenshot for clarity, but the act of taking the screenshot seems to move the box before the shot is taken.
Any idea how I can undo this?!? I'm thinking it's a Universal Access item, but I can't find any setting that changes it. I'm running Tiger with latest updates.
I put a lot of things in the trash which I didn't mean to. I have not emptied the trash. How can I restore them to exactly the folders they all came from? On Windows, there is an option "Restore" which does this.

"The operation can't be completed because the item is in use."I have set all permissions of that file to Read & Write but still can't empty.I also tried to rename file, move to another folder etc, but without success.
so after freezing and freezing i finally logged in my computer. i just noiced there is something in my trash. its a folder titled Database.
and inside the folder it says Database.sqlite3.
WTF is this? im thinking its something to do with sql or something right? but i dont have any apps like that.what is this?
