Feb 9, 2009I'm on Leopard 10.5.6, Mac Mini. Does the sleep function use power? If yes, how much power to maintain that sleep state? Can I switch off my power plug after putting it to sleep?

MacBook Pro :: No Sleep Function With Power Cord?
Apr 8, 2012My 2011 macbook pro does not go into sleep mode with the power cord on. The sleep light goes on, but does not go into "pulse" mode and the fans continue to run as well as the hard disk keeps running.Â
The issue started a few weeks back. I have tried switching off the internet sharing and other possible settings that might hinder the MBP going into sleep mode when the power cord is in. I have even down loaded PleaseSleep but that does not seem to function either.Â
Seems like a minor issue, but if the MBP does not enter into sleep mode correctly I am afraid the built-up heat might damage disks, rams or screen.

IMac :: Automatic Sleep And Wake Up Function Does Not Work
Jan 21, 2009I'm experiencing very annoying sleep/wakeup problems with Mid 2007 iMac. I think it started after 10.5.6 update.
1. iMac does not go to sleep according to the Energy saving settings, this was actually from the day one. It goes to screen saver, display sleep, but not complete sleep.
2. Since automatic sleeping does not work, I put it to sleep manually by pressing Power button. but in this case it sleeps so deep, that it does not wakeup. The only way to bring it back is to hold the Power button to complete OFF and then power back UP.
I tried, PRAM and permissions tricks, nothing seem to help.
Intel Mac :: Upgraded Ram But Now Sleep And Wake Function Won't Work?
Jun 1, 2012I just purchased a set of Mushkin Apple 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1333MHz SODIMM 9-9-9-24 (976647A) RAM for my mid 2011 27" iMac and everything ran great for a few days. I was able to sleep and wake the machine with no problems. Last night I was doing some graphic intensive work on my machine and when I had finished, the fans were still running high but I was going to bed so I put the machine to sleep. Normally the fans would stop at this point but they kept running. I assumed the machine was still hot so it was just cooling after sleeping. The next morning the machine would not wake. I had to do a hard reset to get it to boot up again I tried resetting the SMC and PRAM but it still doesn't wake from sleep. Am I have issues with my RAM?

Mar 19, 2012Following on from my recent post regarding the new apple wired keyboard after very helpful feedback from people who responded to my post I decided to take the leap and purchase it! Good news is that I am really happy with it and am glad that I got it! Much nicer then old apple keyboard that I was using. Â
I also downloaded spark v. 2.1.1 which has enabled me to change the functions of Fkeys to enable to play, pause, etc... in itunes in accordance with the keyboard layout. However, there are two functions that I am having difficulty assigning which are the F1 and F2 keys which allow the decrease and increase of screen brightness. So that I can control my screen brightness using these keys.Â

Nov 30, 2007I've owned my G5 for 3 years and recently when I put it into sleep mode it immediately wakes back up. I have a screen saver password so it asks me to enter the password, if I don't it goes back to sleep, then immediately wakes up. It repeats this process a few times before finally going to sleep. This is very weird because I haven't installed anything or changed any settings.

Oct 9, 2007I am working on a friend's G5. It won't go to sleep. The monitor does, but not the CPU. I have upgraded the firmware, to 10.4.10, zapped the pram, corrected permissions. Just at a loss.
This computer worked fine at work where she had it originally, but when she shut it down and took it home, it has insomnia. Also, one of the front fans sounds like it is scraping or hitting something. It is not a loud noise and the fans still work, just annoying to her since it won't sleep. (Sounds like my one month old).

Nov 23, 2007My old G5 dual 1.6 will not go into sleep mode. I had upgraded to 10.5 but several of my photography programs would not run so I reverted back to 10.4 by reinstalling the operating system and not wiping the drive clean. I now must shut down everytime or the G5 will get to the point that all of the cooling fans are running full speed and it will not go into sleep mode automatically. Any suggestions other than a clean install?

Dec 27, 2007I am the original owner of a Power mac G5 dual 2.0 I purchased this machine in april of 2004 and it has been working nearly non stop ever since. Recently I put it into sleep mode and when I came back it had powered down and would not start up. I assume it's the power supply and I would like to know if there is anyway to tell what type of power supply and model thereof without tearing down the machine.

PowerPC :: G4 Won't Sleep After Power Failure?
Apr 22, 2008G4 733 D/A , 10.4.11. This morning there was a few second power failure according to my wife. Ther G4 shut down from the power failure. I didn't have "restart after power failure" selected in the Energy Saver prefs. I restarted the G4 when zi got home and after I was done with it, selected SLEEP from the menu. The G4 wouldn't respond to sleep. I logged out and tried SLEEP from another user acc't and from the login screen. I then went into the Energy Saver prefs, made sure everything was as I wanted ( 5 min display sleep, 10 min HD sleep, and "put disk to sleep whenever possible". I then rebooted and sleep still wouldn't function.

However, when I have a DVD in the tray, the computer sleeps automatically every time. why a DVD in the tray makes a difference? And how can I have the computer sleep automatically when a DVD is not inserted?

Power Mac :: Why Is ADC Monitor Not Turning On After Put G5 To Sleep
Mar 7, 2012Why is my ADC monitor not turning on after I put my G5 to sleep? I am running an adaptor to my G5 from the ADC monitor (DVI to ADC).The screen usually runs fine when I reset the monitor or turn it off but as for when I put it to sleep, no such luck..This has happened once before and last time I just waited and randomly turned it on a couple days later and boom, the screen booted up.I have tried basic options, like resetting the computer several times, pulling the power cable out of the G5 for several minutes and even a PRAM reset but nothing seems to have made it work as of yet.I assume it's within the G5 as it has happened a few times and the monitor works fine when I test it on other computers..Also as I mentioned before this is not the first time it occured and it just randomly seems to come on whenever.

Power Mac G5 :: Computer Now Wakes Up Immediately After I Put It To Sleep
Nov 14, 2007I've got a dual G5 running Panther and I put it to sleep when I go to work in the morning. Last night, I wanted to try out Tiger (yes, I know - I'm way behind the times) so I installed it on a FireWire drive and booted off it for a couple of hours to see how things worked. I then went back to my internal Panther drive, and everything is ok except for one thing: when I hit "sleep", it goes to sleep, the screens turn off, and then for some reason I immediately hear the internal drives spin back up and the thing turns on again! Why can't it stay asleep?

Nov 9, 2007after having installed Leopard, my Mac doesn't go to sleep anymore. When I activate the sleep mode, it begins to "shut down" and the fans begin to blow. Normally, shortly afterwards it would sleep, but now the fans blow and blow and blow and nothing more happens. Using the mouse wakes the Mac again.

Apr 16, 2012When I awaken my G5 in the morning (when its chilly) it goes back to sleep almost immediately. This may repeat twice before it finally stays on. I initially thought it was my HD, a new purchase at the time. However, I have switched to another internal drive and have been experiencing identical results. I've run TechTool Pro, Onyx, Applejack, and Disk Utility, thinking it was a HD issue, but having switched drives, I'm thinking it must be a hardware issue of some sort.

MacBook Pro :: It Does Not Go To Sleep When Power Cord Is Connected
May 4, 2012I have recently discovered that my MacBook Pro (2009) with OSX Lion does not go to sleep when the power cord is connected. It does not matter if I close the lid or select sleep from the Apple menu. All that happens is that the screen is powered off, the SIL is solid and I can hear the HDD/fan. I have not changed any of my power settings recently and it has not been a problem previously. If I disconnect the power cord the MB goes to sleep as supposed to (the SIL led starts flashing).Â
Doing some research I have found other users with somewhat the same issues when VMWare Fusion is installed. I have done some further testing and it seems that if I disable the virtual machine's Network Adapter and quit VMWare Fusion the MB goes into sleeping mode when the lid is closed even with the power cord connected. Enabling the Network Adapter again prevents the MB to go into sleeping mode when the power cord is connected. This even applies when the VMWare application is shutted down.Â
My guess is that the Network Adapter somehow prevents the MB to go into sleeping mode. The workaround is of course toggling the Network Adapter on and off but the virtual machine has to be running in order to do so. Not being that familiar with network settings on a Mac is there any other way to get around the problem?Â

May 25, 2012my G5 was in sleep mode during 2 power outages. She will not turn back on, have tried unplgging, wait then replugging and turning powerstrip back on. Also tried holding down command,option, p & r keys along w/ powerbutton..I'm on my kindle fire rt now, but definitely need my Mac back up.

Dec 9, 2014Often when I put my iMac to sleep in the evening I find the system unresponsive when I come to use it the next day. I can see instantly that the system has an issue because I see that the screen backlight is on. The system does not react to any mouse or keyboard input and requires a power off reset to restart.Â
I thought that the issue may involve Parallels which is often running when I have this issue , however, I have spoken with Parallels support who recommended removing parallels, repairing the disk permissions and reinstalling Parallels which appears to have had no effect.Â
The iMac is very new and was purchased in November 2014 and is configured with a 3.5GHz i7 processor, 16GB or RAM 3TB HD and NVIDEA 980 graphics card.Â

Power Mac G5 :: Fan Runs On High And Won't Wake From Sleep - It Freezes?
Dec 10, 2007I have a G5 (Power PC, g5, Dual 1.8 GHZ with 1.25 GB SDRAM, and Mac OS X 10.4.10-phew!) and I recently: added more USB ports using a PCI card, and purchased a non-Apple 22" widescreen display.
Prior to adding USB ports, I was using a hub that ran off its own power source, and used a Samsung 19" monitor.
My situation now: everything starts up fine, but ultimately the fan will kick in at SUPER HIGH and won't stop. I can put my Mac to sleep--which stops the fan noise--but then it won't wake up.
I have run the Apple Hardware test and everything checks out OK. I've also reset the SMU according to directions from this forum; AND I've vacuumed out all the dust bunnies.
The fan runs so loud and so high it sounds like it's an airplane that's about to take off.
Short of bringing in my Mac to a technician, can you recommend anything? My Mac has been glitch free up until now.

Power Mac G5 :: Wake Up From Sleep Mode Causing Crashes
Oct 20, 2007I've been fighting bad sleep crashes for over a year. Sometimes it would freeze when it started sleep, sometimes when trying to wake from a sleep. I've spent countless hours researching the problem, reading everything on the boards. I tried resetting the PMU, turning off Bluetooth, removing all USB, and all of the other suggestions. Nothing alleviated the problem. Last week I replaced the lithium battery on the mother board because it wasn't keeping the correct time. So far it is sleeping and waking perfectly for the first time in ages. No more freezes or jet engine fans. I have my fingers crossed. Power Mac G5 dual 2 GHz, purchased June, 2003

Jul 22, 2009First, sorry for the longer post - I have to explain everything. I just bought a 24-inch iMac, Mac OS X 10.5.7, 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB, 1067 MHz DDR3. I also just bought an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) from CyberPower. Everything's great, but I still have this one question which is bugging me. What happens when my iMac is in sleep mode and the power goes out? I have set the settings so that my iMac shuts down after 10 minutes of "battery" (UPS) usage, but I am not sure if it will do that when in sleep mode? The UPS is connected to my iMac via USB cable so that they communicate to each other in the case of the power outage, etc. This is what somebody wrote elsewhere on this topic: "Using the Deep Sleep widget, I've worked around this issue: I changed the default sleep behavior to Safe Sleep (hibernation+sleep).When I'm on the grid, my computer will now safe sleep after 3 hours of non-use. If I go off the grid and onto UPS while the MP is awake, the Energy Saver preferences will safe sleep after 1 minute. If for some reason this doesn't occur, Energy Saver will invoke a shut down after 5 minutes. If I go off the grid and onto UPS while the MP is safe sleeping, no big deal since contents are written to the HDD and RAM with this configuration."
I've downloaded the Deep Sleep widget and am using it now. Obviously, the user up there is using a MacPro, and not an iMac, but it should work the same. So, I am not concerned about losing data, and blah, blah, blah... what I am most concerned about is my iMac not working properly because it wasn't shut down properly. I know that there is a very low risk of this happening, but I've spent big bucks on this iMac and I want to make sure that it is shut down properly 100% of the time, if I can help it. If my iMac loses power when in deep sleep, will it be ok? Obviously, I am still using the UPS in deep sleep, but that UPS (battery) power will not last long and will shut down. I am going to turn my iMac off when I don't plan on using it for several days, but if I'm just out and about and the power goes out and my iMac is in deep sleep, will it be ok with the power going off? I contacted CyberPower and this is what they had to say after a long back-and-forth. "You will want to use the deepsleep tool. I had the belief that sleep was the same as windows hibernation where everything is saved to disk. Since deepsleep will save to the hard disk, you would not lose anything when the power is lost when the battery runs out." Despite all of this, I wanted to hear what everyone else thinks about this, especially those of you who might have experience with this kind of stuff. What do the rest of you do when it comes to UPS, etc.?
MacBook :: Wakes From Sleep When Power Connected And Lid Shut?
Oct 3, 2009My macbook has developed a problem where when the lid is shut and the power is connected it wakes up from sleep and then goes back to sleep and repeats this process every 30-60 seconds.
What's weird is it doesn't wake from sleep and get stuck in this loop when�the lid is open and the power is connected and I select sleep from the Apple menu�when the lid is shut and the power is NOT connected and is running from the battery
I recently updated my mac to Snow Leopard and put in a new HDD and since doing so the problem has been occurring.
