PowerPC :: G4 Won't Sleep After Power Failure?

Apr 22, 2008

G4 733 D/A , 10.4.11. This morning there was a few second power failure according to my wife. Ther G4 shut down from the power failure. I didn't have "restart after power failure" selected in the Energy Saver prefs. I restarted the G4 when zi got home and after I was done with it, selected SLEEP from the menu. The G4 wouldn't respond to sleep. I logged out and tried SLEEP from another user acc't and from the login screen. I then went into the Energy Saver prefs, made sure everything was as I wanted ( 5 min display sleep, 10 min HD sleep, and "put disk to sleep whenever possible". I then rebooted and sleep still wouldn't function.

OS X :: Sleep Not Working / Kernel Sleep Failure

Aug 30, 2010

Sleep seems to have stopped working all of a sudden on my recently upgraded iMac. The only thing I remember doing was repairing disk permissions and changing a few iChat preferences.

The console shows the following;

kernel Sleep failure code 0x00000000 0x11000000

A reboot does not clear the condition

Power Mac :: What Steps Need To Take To Isolate A Graphics Card Failure In A Power Mac G5

May 29, 2012

a friend recently gave me a g5 power mac that had some issues, and the failure was described as intermittant. The machine supposedly would work properly when booted and start freezing up after time, but if turned on the next day it would work properly for some time. I assumed it was an overheating issue, but apperently there is more to the picture. I have tried booting the machine quite a few times and the display always reads no signal. The machine sounds as if it were booting normally, but there is not output. At first I assumed it was my display cable, which was a DVI-D single link, however the DVI-D dual link cable leads to the same result. Is it nessicary to have a DVI-I cable? None of the error LEDs light up on the motherboard. After doing some hunting I haven't found anyone with the same issue, but I am wondering if I should assume the graphics card is dead. What steps do I need to take to isolate a graphics card failure in a power mac g5?

MacBook Pro :: OS X Mavericks (10.9.4) Sleep / Wake Failure

Sep 4, 2014

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4), 15" top of the line late 2013.

Problem: When running computer in clamshell mode, it will often log me out automatically and/or crash the computer and/or cause an auto restart.

I've run a hardware test by holding down D during restart and it didn't show any issues there.

I've run a sleep/wake test in Terminal using a command I found on Google:

pmset -g log|grep -e " Sleep  " -e " Wake  "

Here are the results:

Intel Mac :: Backup Failure Error After Sleep Mode?

Feb 12, 2012

When my iMac comes out of sleep (overnight), I get a "backup failure" error as the machine tries to do a backup. I try performing a backup manually and it fails as well. I tried removing the drive to have it detect again and I get another error that it cannot perform the ejection process, because it may be in use. I have to force quit/eject. After reattaching the drive, the backup performs with no problems.

why i have to unplug the power cable from the back of my imac after every power failure at my home to get the imac to boot up.  I've tried resetting the surge protecter and unplugging there.  However, the only option is to unplug the cord from the back of the monitor/imac before it will boot up.

IMac :: How Do I Diagnose Occasional Failure To Power Up

Jan 4, 2010

Have a white iMac (2Ghz Core Duo, 20" screen). It has started misbehaving slightly: it usually takes two or more tries to start from off, and has to have a hard restart if I've let it go to sleep on its own.If I have made it sleep myself, by pressing the power button, it always comes back, but it refuses to do so if I let it sleep on its own.My local reseller suggests that it may be a logic board fault: I'll have to pay ?70 to diagnose this and, if that's the case, the repair is uneconomic, meaning I've also wasted

I've been trying for almost two hours now and nothing is working.

Power Mac :: Adobe Flash Player Failure On G5

Feb 19, 2012

I have a PowerMac G5 computer, running OSX Version 10.4.11.  Up until yesterday, the computer performed flawlessly.  Suddenly, yesterday, I get a message from Firefox (the browser I usually use), telling me that my Flash Player had been disabled because I did not have the most up-to-date version of Adobe Flash Player.  When I investigated, I found out that the newest version was NOT compatible with my computer.  So I tried reinstalling the most recent version of Adobe Flash Player that IS compatible and have had no success.  When I go in to System Preferences and click on the Adobe Flash Player pane (under other), I get a message reading "could not load Adobe Flash Player."  Someone out there must know how to handle this.  I'm not in a position to purchase a new computer, and I desperately need Flash Player for some of the websites I use quite often.

IMac :: System Crashes Suddenly Like Power Failure

Sep 6, 2009

My IMac crashes sometimes very suddenly, like in a power failure. It doesn't force quit or shut down, it just goes like somebody pulled the plug. It's usually possible to start it up again after 30minutes or an hour. The plug and lead seem to be fine. I tested it on another mac. The obvious suspicion would be overheating, but how can that be caused so suddenly (and how can I fix it)? It's an IMac Intel core duo, 20", 2 ghz, 2gb ram from 2006. I'm running Mac OS X (10.4.11) 2006.

MacBook Pro :: Messages Stopped Working After Power Failure?

Sep 9, 2014

I have a 2011 MacBook Pro 15 inch, and the Messages application has been installed and functioning well for the past year. A few hours ago, my MacBook ran out of battery and died on me. This caused a number of applications to function incorrectly, however, after a restart all of the applications EXCEPT Messages work correctly. Now whenever I start up the messages app and try to send a message to one of my contacts, their name appears in red and I receive a message that says "###-###-#### is not registered with iMessage." This occurs even though the contacts DO have iMessage and were working in the past. None of the contacts work currently.

I tried signing out of Messages, restarting my computer, restarting iMessage from my phone, deleting my plist file, but none of these seem to alleviate the issue.

Hardware :: Avoid Downtime While A Power Supply Failure - Third Party Option?

Feb 3, 2010

I'm going to be setting up a dedicated server on a LAN soon. It's only going to be accessed by a handful of computers, all of which will be controlled by the client. Based on cost and complexity of other options, we've decided on a normal Mini, rather than a Mini Server or an Xserve.

The one feature that concerns us, which is included with the Xserve but not on either Mini, is the redundant power supply. We would like to avoid downtime in the event of a power supply failure. Are there any third party options to this?

(A battery backup with a limited run time would not be sufficient.)

PowerPC :: G4 Powerbook RAM Failure

Oct 3, 2006

I have an older 15" G4 Powerbook (before the recalled Powerbooks with the RAM slot failures) that has recently been experiencing some speed issues. To my dismay, when I checked my 'About This Mac...' I no longer had 1GB of RAM, only a lowly 512 MB. Tonight I sat down and started swapping and removing my two sticks of RAM and as it turns out, something is up.

With a 512 stick in the lower slot, System Profiler tells me I have 512 MB of RAM and that the upper slot is empty. When I put the other stick in the upper slot (leaving the lower one in), System Profiler now says I have 512 MB of RAM and that the lower slot is empty. Does this look to be a (out of warranty) logic board failure? Is there anything else I can try to do? On a related note, when removing the screws from the RAM panel on the bottom of my PB, one screw fell into my Powerbook, never to be seen again. Is this going to cause any problems down the line?

PowerPC :: Hard Drive Failure In IBook?

Sep 15, 2006

I was using my mom's 500 mhz G3 iBook circa 2k1, running 10.2.0 and it decided to start tweaking out on me. Being a somewhat aware computer person, I thought tat a simple restart would fix all of this. Shows you how much I know. Anyway, the boot-up screen showed the icon of the file with the question mark inside. Find the OS 9 CD that we have and I booted up through the CD. I finish starting up and, to my surprise, the drive appears to be erased- the computer asks me if I want to initialize the disk. I hit cancel and proceed to run the disk repair on the OS 9 CD. After it's done scanning, the the results are: "Missing Thread Record, 62078, 4260". What does it all mean? Will the computer be able to recover? What fate lies in store for the iBook?

PowerPC :: Unusual PowerBook G4 Boot Failure

Dec 2, 2008

I just recently started to experience some very unusual behavior on an older PowerBook G4, and I was wondering if anyone has experienced this before, as I can't seem to find any documented info on this.Basically, out of the blue, the user began to experience issues waking from sleep, while using the laptop closed with external monitor, USB keyboard and mouse. Although a powercord was always connected, the machine seemed to be powering off.For a while, hitting the power button would boot things up again, properly, but not anymore. I have since disconnected all peripherials. Now, when pressing the power button, the machine will beep 3 times and then repeat itself every so often. The sleep led will blink three times, go solid, then repeat. Sometime the harddrive tries to spin, sometimetimes not

PowerPC :: Powerbook Boot Failure Using Internal And External HD?

I have a 12" Powerbook G4 running 10.3.9 Panther. I am having problem booting my computer from a Firewire HD. I have done a search in the forum but cannot get a definite and/or successul solution. Forum moderators and my respected macrumor fellows, please feel free to direct me to a specific link if you find the questions redundant.Recently, I have had the HD making terrible noise and several days ago, the computer cannot boot at all. When I pushed the power button, the screen shows a folder in the middle with a Mac face and switches to a question mark back and forth. However, it just gets stuck at that stage. I suspected that I have a HD problem and wanted to boot from my clone Firewire HD. Unfortunately, the computer will not boot with Firewire HD either.

PowerPC :: PowerBook G4 Cannot Booting - Hard Drive Failure?

Nov 25, 2009

I'm a new Mac user for about 6 months now. I bought a used PowerBook G4 15" 1.25 ghz notebook that was in good condition. It was well cared for by the previous owner. Only thing she had done was update the ram to 2 gigs.Recently I began to notice it running slower, programs were freezing and Garage Band couldn't run as many tracks. I installed recommended software updates before it started to get slower and I thought maybe that was the problem. So I attempted to do a fresh swipe of the hard drive and start from nothing. I saved some files and then tried to run the software installation cd. It didn't really help at all. I can't remember the error but it wouldn't let me reinstall OS X even when I held "c" when starting up. At one point I must have clicked run in target mode because I booted it up and it showed an unfamiliar screen. Then I restarted it once again and saw on Disk Utility that S.M.A.R.T. said something about hard drive failure.
