I'm having issues with saving a .doc file to a network share from my macbook. It gives the error message that I don't have the appropriate permissions to do it. I checked the document and it is marked with read/write access ok for me, also I've all the latest updates (it's on 10.6.3). I saved a few pdf files to this share with no problem, so only doc issues.

What is the best software/way to save DVDs (I bought) on my computer so I can see them anywhere without the CDs ?

I recently did a clean sweep of my system drive and am keeping most things external for easier plug-n-play and swap capabilities.
Currently by default Firefox saves downloads to: MacHD > Users > AppleNewton > Downloads
So i changed that to point to my external drive: Volume > Downloads (folder on drive) > Firefox
so when i say goto apple.com and download programs or utilities it prompts the Okay to download and it saves it to that destination. (since it does not auto-launch)
So my problem is those files that auto-launch another application say..iTunes, VLC or uTorrent.
I download torrent file, it saves the package to the Downloads section but within uTorrent I can send it to a different completed folder.
So i just need to find out a way to get the auto-launch files to be saved to the Firefox downloads folder on the external drive, isntead of defaulting to the MacHD>User>AppleNewton>Downloads folder
it seems to only do it when the item is selected as Open With when using Firefox.
setting to be able to open a file before it is saved. for example clicking on a torrent link file only gives you the option to save it. how to bypass the save and let it open straight to the default torrent program or whatever you got set up as the default program.

I want to migrate from my iTunes account to my MobileMe/iCloud account. But before I can do that, I need to create a backup of my calendars. My problem is though, that iCal constantly freezes when I'm saving the backup file (via File > Export > iCal Archive…) and I have to force quit it after a while.

I recently downloaded a bundled security update for Safari and several other Mac-type programs. Since then I've had several instances where the activity selected produced the spinning wheel which would not stop over time. I've used disk utility several times to repair extensions and verify/repair the Mac OSX. More times than not, the original problems have been right after I've tried to save a file or document by printing it to *pdf. Once I select this print option, I experience the spinning wheel, and it won't stop.

I managed to successfully hide the file: cat picture.jpg hidden.rtf.zip > picture2.jpg
results in a picture (picture2.jpg) that is the size of the sum of picture.jpg and hidden.rtf.zip. I presume this means that I am successfully putting hidden into the picture.I can open picture2.jpg, but I can't figure out a way to access the hidden zip.
I am trying to save some information from a webpage as a pdf. Usually this works for me but i am having problems. When i open the pdf file the sides are cut off. How can this be avoided?

Each time I start each computer, the system asks whether I want to allow or block connections for a variety of programs, including iTunes and several UNIX commands (cupsd, compressord, ftpd, krb5kdc, qmasterd, qmastertaskd,smbd). Why aren't these settings being saved upon shutdown? Is anyone else experiencing a similar problem?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having a frustrating time with one aspect of garageband I can't seem to resolve. Here is the situation - if I record a multitrack live performance and save the entire 60 minute+ file it is 3.12GB in size.
If I then edit the file down into 7 minute, and 5 minute sections from the master file - they are still saving as 3.12GB files. It is as if I can't get rid of all of the contents of the master file when I edit down shorter i.e. smaller sections.
I add my own sites to topsites by creating a new Safari window and dragging the icon in the left of the address bar to the topsites window. That works, but every time I quit Safari and open it up again, the topsites change.

I dragged the file onto my desktop and now want to save it in my iPhoto 09 library. I've tried dragging it, importing it but I'm not sure if I'm doing it right. When I place it into iPhoto it comes up as a new event. I drag that event into the existing event I want my photo stored in. It asks me if I want to merge events and I say Yes and the photo is now in my existing event along with about twenty others. Ok so far. But when I do a right click "show file" on my new photo it just lists that photo. When I do the same to any other photo in that event it shows all the photos.

I guess at some point a window popped up and asked if I wanted to save anyway and I clicked the "do not show message again" and cancel. Well it has remembered my choice to not show this message again but now it just permanently overwrites and saves text files when I close them without even hesitating. So 10 minutes ago I had a very important file open and accidentally modified it, I was done with the file but did not want to save it so instead of undoing I just closed the file. This new system has completely overwritten the file with this new version and when I reopen it there are no undo options or previous versions available to restore. How do I turn this stupid feature off?

If U click 'never for this website' keychain access won't ask this again.How can I change this setting? I'm trying to autolog into facebook but it won't work.I keychain access I added it manually but it still doesn't work.

I just noticed that the time on my G5 running 10.5.8 is off by +1 hour. I have the Date and Time set to Automatic, Apple Americas/US and NY time zone.
