OS X :: Creating A WiFi Network From IMac To Apple TV

Dec 1, 2010

I recently bought an iMac and even more recently got Apple TV.

I only use a USB modem and do not have broadband internet nor a router.

I've tried through system preferences to create an Ad Hoc Network with out success.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Creating A Wifi Network From IMac?

Mar 23, 2012

I have an iMac running Lion hardwired to an internet connection and want to create a wifi network from this connection I have gone to 'create network' and set up - all seems fine. I have then tried to connect to this network with my iPhone. The phone recognises the network and it looks as though it has connected as it is ticked in the networks, but unfortunately it hasn't as my phone won't connect to the internet.

Hardware :: Printing In Windows WiFi Network From IMac

Mar 7, 2009

I have bucked the household Wintel trend and bought an iMac. I'd like to use our Kyocera printer which everyone else connects to via our WiFi (linksys) but my iMac doesn't see the device (internet yes). I installed bonjour for windows on the primary machine and it doesn't see the printer either. I have checked printer sharing everywhere to no avail. I am running OS X 10.5.6 and the rest of the machines in the house are Windows XP.

IMac :: Not Connect To Home WiFi Network - Timed Out

Mar 24, 2010

Yesterday I got my new iMac 21,5'. After starting it up, the airport would not work. The open network (not password protected) was detected, but every attempt to connect to it ended with a "timed out" error message. I tried to deactivate and reactivate the airport a few times. With no luck. Both my iphone and a cheap netbook would get a valid connection in the meantime. So it's not a network issue.

It's a d-link router and it's about half a meter from the imac. My previous macbook with tiger worked perfectly with this connection. I tried to change the wireless channel from 7 to 6 and this did not solve the issue. Or at least not right away. I tried again after say 15 minutes, and it worked. However, tried again in the morning, and got the "timed out" error message one more time. I have installed the airport software update

IMac :: See History Of Attempts To Use Wifi Network - Light From System?

Sep 28, 2010

Woke up thinking I had slept longer than I thought with the sun already rising, until I realized it wasn't sunlight but the light from my awakened imac. I had put it to sleep hours before when I turned in. This one was purchased new last December. Is there any way of viewing what was going on in my computer that would have awakened it from sleep mode? Any way of seeing a history of attempts to use my wifi network?

MacBook :: Won't Work With Wifi Network / Drops Wifi

Jan 10, 2011

MacBook. 2Ghz Intel Core Duo. OS Snow Leopard 10.6.6. I'm running a 2006 MacBook with Snow Leopard. A few months back it started dropping wifi connection. Airport would show no connection but would list my network along with others in my building. If I tried to connect with my WPA password it would just time out. At this time I was running Leopard.

Since then I've done a few things.Tried running the Netgear router with no encryption at all (same thing happens). Will lose connection and then time out trying to connect
I've tried the MacBook in a coffee shop with wifi access and at my parents (same NetGear router) and at my new apartment with a horrible Orange Livebox.
Taken the MacBook in to see the genius bar at Glasgow Apple store. Worked fine for them, but I explained it was intermittent but we could not force it to fail. I'm sure if it ran for an hour it would.
At present if I have the MacBook in the living room (where the Livebox router is situated) its fine and wont drop connection. If I walk some 5m to my bedroom it will work for approximately half and hour and then lose it. A few days ago I bought the Snow Leopard upgrade and installed it last night. MacBook runs a hell of a lot faster (yay!) but moving it away from the router and its dead as disco in half an hour.

So to clarify, the MacBook has been tested on 4 wifi networks/ locus with same issue. iPhone, Xbox 360 and PS3 all have no issues with dropping connection no matter where they are in the apartment.

Apartment is a new build and its walls are not made out of lead or kryptonite. Is this a hardware issue rather than software? When updating to Snow Leopard it was an update to the existing OS of Leopard not a clean install.

AIRPORT says the following in System Profiler.

Software Versions:
Menu Extra:6.2.1 (621.1)
configd plug-in:6.2.3 (623.2)
System Profiler:6.0 (600.9)
Network Preference:6.2.1 (621.1)

OS X :: Creating Home Network - Best Way?

Dec 11, 2010

I wanted to pick up a decent sized/priced external drive to finally create a home network. Basically I want to have my soon-to-be-owned Macbook Air, girlfriend's iMac, my PC and my Apple TV (2nd gen) to all be able to share music/video. My PC is hooked up to the router (a Linksys simultaneous dual-band N model with a USB sharing port) while the iMac, Apple TV and Macbook will (obviously) be wireless.

Do I hook it up to the iMac via firewire and share it from there? Or to the router and share from there. I know the Apple TV is a bit picky about that stuff. Will I need to pour ALL the media to my gf's iMac and then use her iTunes to sync with the Apple TV? Each of us has a little external used for time machine back up's so this is basically just a media drive. Or should I get something like a Drobo? They are big bucks but I like the idea of expandability and ease of use.

OS X :: Creating A Small Office Network Using Macs And PCs?

Sep 13, 2010

I wish to network an Apple Power Mac G4 (AGP graphics) using OSX and an Apple Beige G3 using OS9.2 to an ESystem Ei302 PC using Windows XP. I know it can be done but I'll be damned if I can work out how to configure it all and I have gone through Windows Network Set Up and still can't seem to fathom it. I have BT Business router and have connected all the units with cat5c 'straight through' patch cable to that and although I can connect to the internet through the G4 and the PC, I can't get any of the computers to see each other.

Hardware :: Creating G And Airport Extreme N Network

Sep 22, 2009

I bought a Airport Extreme (2008 model without dual band & guest networking) and have it setup with my ADSL broadband modem. I bought it so I could use the high speed N to connect to my Apple TV. It replaced a Linksys WRT54G. My concern is this. We have another laptop in the house which only has Wireless G. It is connected most of the time to our network, so I presume that it will be slowing the speed of my Extreme to G levels.

Can I connect my old Linksys G router somehow to my network to create a seperate Wireless G network to access the internet. The older laptop can be at G speeds and my Extreme network remaining at N speeds? Maybe an easier option is to buy a N USB adaptor for my laptop but I don't want to buy something if I can use my current equipment.

Hardware :: Review Of Creating Dual Band Network

Mar 11, 2009

Here's something I have tried in the last couple of days. I have Time Capsule and Airport Express. I decided to try the dual band. Time Capsule distributing 802.11n only (5GHz), and in a bridge mode, have Airport Express connected via ethernet, and distribute 802.11g only. Wireless N network has a name "xxxn." Wireless G network has a name "xxxg." Two separate networks are on different frequencies, and are in different radio modes. They are positioned about two feet away from each other. I have used various internet speed test websites, and from a distance close to the routers (same room) I get a speed check of about 25~30 mbps. That's the speed that I'm suppose to get. Move to a couple rooms away, I would say about three wooden walls, a wooden door, some "normal" interfering objects in between.

Speed test, and the results are very different. About 20 mbps for Wireless G only network, which is fine. But around 8.5 mbps for Wireless N only in 5GHz. Half the download speed. Upload is same at about 6mbps. In this case, wireless N was slower than wireless G. Harassed an Apple technical support and IP tech friend, and the answer was, "2.4GHz does better at passing through interferences such as large water tanks, electronic devices, glass and metal plates. 5GHz is not as resilient as 2.4GHz. For people experiencing issues with 5GHz, using 2.4GHz might be the better option." So there you go. Performance boost might not be that great. But then again, maybe new device has made a significant improvement.

Software :: Creating Apple Mail Folders Within The Inbox?

Jun 18, 2009

I've used Apple Mail for years but struggled so long with the folder structure. I would love for my multiple "Mailboxes" (folders) to go under the Inbox like such: The reason being when I create new mailboxes they go to a completely separate heading under that e-mail address. So when my searches in Apple Mail are not comprehensive, as it'll often search the Inbox without searching the other Mailboxes. This is such a simple feature yet my web searches have proved fruitless. I've also contacted my ISP Host Gator but recommend that I ask Apple or search the internet.

MacBook Air :: WiFi Is Always Looking For Network To Log Into?

Aug 29, 2014

I have a high speed wi-fi connection in my home.  My MacBookAir looks like its always looking to connect to Network vs. just staying logged into the preferred Network.  I see this is a slow process that affects the speed of my surfing the web.

What I'm I doing wrong in my settings?  is it something to do with Configuration of IPv4 in TCP/IP; my is at "using DHCP".  Should I have something in 802.1X Profile Information?  Proxies; I have my set to "Auto Proxy Discovery"

Why cant I surf seamlessly?  Why dos it look like my Wi-Fi is always trying to connect to my home Network?

OS X :: Speed Degradation On Wifi Network?

Aug 3, 2010

I have a wifi network running with two Airport Express units. One unit is an Airport Express "N" and one is a "G". The "N" is connected to my router and configured as the main basestation. My "G" is connected as a remote station and extends my network and I connect my stereo to it.I've noticed that my wifi network starts off relatively fast (speedtest from my Powerbook laptop is about 10-15mbs), however it soon slows down significantly (to about .2-.5 mbs). My line connection is fiber optic. My PC (which is connected directly to the router) gets very fast speeds (about 80mbs).
