Is it possible to create a network where the broadband router is wireless to a time capsule which in turn is hard wired to a 360 thus allowing the 360 to access the internet?
broadband router <---[wireless]--->time capsule <---[wired]--->XBOX360
If so can anyone give me any pointers?
I have just got my 1Tb time capsule and there are a lot of confusing descriptions of how to connect it.
At the moment I have just selected "join existing wireless network" which is a ADSL 2.4ghz G Router that came with my internet package (Thompson TG585 v7).
Does this mean that all traffic goes via the ADSL Router and that I will not be using the 5ghz band when I back up so that all the data will follow a path like this and have slow data rates? :
MAC --2.4ghz--> ADSL Router --2.4ghz--> TC
or will I be communicating directly with the TC at 5ghz for backups and data transfer and 2.4ghz with the ADSL router for internet like this? :
MAC --5ghz--> TC
ADSL Router --2.4ghz--> MAC
If this is not a good setup, what setup would allow me to get the full speed to the time capsule and be connected to the internet.
I begin uni next month and have been offered accommodation. My room won't have WiFi but will have a wired connection. I'm wondering, is it possible to - rather than connect my MacBook - connect the Time Capsule to this connection and create a wireless network? Also, is it simple to switch from one connection (my current WiFi at home) to another (the uni connection)? Finally, is it easy to switch from being connected via Ethernet to using WiFi (after initial backup for example)? The lack of WiFi would really be rubbish when I have an iPhone and Time Capsule.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have Time Warner cable and they told me that their high speed internet cable service comes with 2 IP addresses. Well, I have 4 computers. Now it was my understanding that only the router needed an IP address and the computers on the network access the internet via the router, i.e. 2 IP addresses should be more than enough. I have been trying to configure my time capsule to work with all of my computers with no success. Only 2 can access the internet. I Have a mac mini, 2 mac book pros and a pc.

Is it possible to physically connect your Time Capsule to your wired ethernet network and then have your backups occur over the wire like this? MacBook Pro wireless -> Linksys WRT54G router -> physically connected Time Capsule..Can you turn off all wireless functions of the Time Capsule and just backup in this manner?
View 10 Replies View RelatedMy Internet has just been upgraded from 2MB/s to 10MB/s. To confirm the upgrade I have used [URL:...] to test my upload/download speeds with Firefox and Safari. I have 2 computers on my network which consists of a cable modem connected to a white airport base station with 128 bit WEP encryption in 802.11 b/g compatible mode. The 2 computers are a dual 2.8 ghz MacPro which is wired directly into the Airport base station by Ethernet and an iMac 1.83 Intel core 2 duo. The much faster MacPro only achieves a download speed of 5.5MB/s over its wired connection while the slower iMac achieves 9.8MB/s - very close to the advertised speed over its wireless connection. These are consistent speeds not one offs so I am wondering why the difference? The MacPro is my main machine so I'd like to have the best speed possible on that. What can I try?
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo here's how it is set up at home: my parents have an AirPort Extreme Base Station by our upstairs computers, which is connected to a modem and we use that to get our wi-fi throughout the house. I want to buy an AirPort Express to use to stream music in my room. But I also have a Time Capsule, which I need so I can back up my Macbook. I know that an AirPort Express can be used to extend an existing network. So would it be possible to plug in the Express in my room, use it to extend our upstairs network, and then hard-wire the Time Capsule to the Express through the ethernet port and use that to connect the Time Capsule? On paper that seems like it would work, because the Express would be receiving a signal from the base station upstairs, and then sending it to the Time Capsule, giving them both access to the network. But I just want to make sure it would work before I drop $99 on an Express.

I need some advice with my wireless set-up. I have:
Airport Extreme (master network)
Airport Express (slave)
Time Capsule (slave)
Right now I have my XBox 360 hooked up to my Express through a wired connection (works fine). I have a Mac Mini hooked up to my Time Capsule through a wired connection (doesn't work at all). When I look at the settings, it isn't even an option to bridge the TC, so as it stands in its slave capacity I cannot use any of the three wired ethernet ports. Is it possible in its current network configuration to get the TC to recognize the Mac Mini I have connected through a wired connection?
Can i have it wired to my computer and wireless at the same time?
If so, what ports to i plug what into?
Is it - modem-wan port on extreme and a cable going wired from the ether port on the extreme to the iMac?
Do i need to do any configuring?
I have a Time Capsule wirelessly connected to my iMac. Since I've encountered some problems with backups because of intermittent wifi connection failures, I want to switch to a wired connection with an ethernet cable. I know I could fiddle with the wifi channels etc. but since the TC is just sitting next to my iMac anyway, I could profit from the higher bandwidth of a wired connection as well.Two questions:
1. What exactly do I have to do to make the switch? Are there any new settings I have to apply? Create a new network?
2. Will I still be able to use the wifi connection to get on the internet using my smartphone?
I recently purchased a Time Capsule to use as a wireless hard drive. I connect to the internet both through wifi and ethernet to a educational network that does not allow extra routers, etc, to be added to the network, therefore I can not use the time capsule for this wifi.
I therefore want to connect to my early 2009 MBP17unibody to both the academic internet network for http/pop3/ftp/etc while simultaneously connecting to external hard drive to store data/itunes-library/etc.
I expect this has been asked before but I can't find any threads where it has. If anyone knows it would be highly helpful. I'd prefer to connect to both wirelessly but I could potentially put up with connecting to either or both with ethernet.
I have installed and have running a new Time Capsule. I would like to access files through the wireless network between two Apples and two PC's. At present the Apples are working wonderfully, however the PC running Windows 7 sees the network is unable to access it.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI currently have a Sky provided D-Link modem router that provides my wireless internet (in my lounge, as this is where the phone line is), and the Time Capsule sits nicely out of the way in my kitchen, wirelessly backing up via Time Machine. My wife would like to sit in the kitchen and work on her laptop, but her company's IT policy means that she can only connect via Ethernet. Currently she has to connect to the D-Link in the lounge and sit on the floor. Is there a way of connecting her laptop to the ethernet ports on the back of the TC and then wirelessly connect to the internet?

I have a 250GB HDD inside my unibody MBP.
I'm thinking of getting the TC to store all my iTunes movie/TV Show purchases - over 100GB due to them being in HD.
If I get the TC, will it perform well as a wireless hard drive, no back up, just to 'stream' the files back to my MBP
Basically I have a PS3 (silm, if that matters), and a Time Capsule connected to my router via ethernet , and Im using the TC as the network, called "PamaJama". Basically it connects fine when I connect via ethernet, but when I try to use it wirelessly, "PamaJama" doesent show up. And When I go to put it in manually, it doesnt ask for a name... I know the password is a WPA2 Personal, and that doesent come up as a catagorie either. If I where to change the password to a WEP, would it show up? If yes, how do i do that? and if no, do you know what I have to do to get it to connect wirelesly? I can always just leave it connected via ethernet but I would love for it to connect wirelessly so i could play it up in my room.

Can I just plug the time capsule into the wall and use it as a time machine?
How do I go about this and am I clear on what is going on.
I have my time capsule setup (green light and all). I can backup to it. I can access it and its folders from my new MBP. I can run the windows (and/or apple) Airport Utility and see and configure the TC within the utility but I cannot access it like a network drive on the XP box. I thought I saw somewhere to enter a workgroup name for PC networks but can't find it now.

I can get the 2 airport expresses to "participate in WDS network" but the Time Capsule setup in airport utility does not give me that option. There is on "create a wireless network" and "extend a wireless network". Why am I not getting "participate in WDS network"

But i wanted to connect my time capsule with a modem to get rid of the router(waste of space,small apartment). But from what i've read it seems that time capsule is awful when it comes to internet.
So what do you thing? Should i do it or not?Don't know if this is important but i have a 8mbps internet connection.
I am having trouble with my Time Capsule's wireless range. I am not a networking expert by any means. I own an old building that is 4 stories connected by stairs with thick walls.
All the rooms ethernet cables converge in a cubby on the 3rd floor. I placed my Time Capsule in the cubby, but I couldn't receive a wireless signal from the 1st floor. This is ironic because I have an old Netgear G router that sends signals throughout all 4 floors.
So I bought an Airport Express to extend my network wirelessly, but the signal has been unstable perhaps because the Time Capsule's wireless signal is too weak.
So I want to connect the Airport Express on the 1st floor using the Ethernet link from the 3rd floor Time Capsule which is my main router.
From my research, I discovered about WDS networks, which I believe you have to use in order to create a network with multiple Apple base stations linked through ethernet.
I called Applecare who told me:
-To connect from Time Capsule to Airport Express using Ethernet, must use WDS network. Setup Airport Express as Relay, NOT Remote.
-Relay- Direct ethernet connection from Time Capsule to Airport Express, then wireless connection from Airport Express to Macbook.
-Remote- Wireless signal from Time Capsule to Airport Express, then direct Ethernet connection from Airport Express to Macbook
I have several questions for you wise people out there:
1. To extend the Time Capsule wireless network using the Airport Express, but connected directly via ethernet, do I need to setup a WDS network?
2. I prefer to just use the simple Apple settings "extend network wirelessly". Will this setting only boost a wireless signal received from the Time Capsule? Can it not extend a wireless signal sent directly from Ethernet?
3. I'm considering getting a Quickertek Triband antenna to place outside the cubby. Anyone have any experience with Airport external antennas?:
