How do I get my Canon Powershot SD400 to show up as a plain-old USB SD card reader in Leopard?
I'm trying to use PhotoRec to recover some deleted photos off of a SD card. While programs like Image Capture can read and copy pictures from the Camera directly, I need the camera to show up as a plain USB SD card so that I can access it from Photo Rec.
I have a Canon Powershot A410 I can't get working on my PM. I have leopard on and I installed the canon's software on my mac and it didn't work and I tried iPhoto and it didn't work. Anyone know how to get it working? I need it so I can post pics here and stuff.

I am in the process of making digital copies of all my music, movies, and photos. Obviously this is quite a memory hog. What is the best way to have all the files in one central location, and backed up. I would like the files also though to be wirelessly accessible. Is that feasible? Is there a way to have files on a remote computer, but show up in your aperture library/itunes library/ plex database etc?
I'm having big problems with USB mass storages. After upgrading to Mavericks my Mac doesn't see some USB storage devices (mostly USB sticks and Android phone's memory cards via USB. My external USB 3.0 hard disks work fine) at all even though the devices themselves (for example my Android phone) are clearly recognized according to the System Report. When I plug them in, they don't show up on my Finder or on Disk Utility.Â
I've searched everywhere and it seems like some other people are having the same problem, none seems to offer a definite solution. I've even formatted my HD and reinstalled Mavericks from the recovery partition. Now it mounts a USB stick that was in one of the USB ports at the time of installation but still doesn't read anything else! The funny thing is when I boot into Windows 8 on my Boot Camp partition, I can mount any USB devices including the USB stick and the Android phone I'm having problems on Mavericks without any problems. I can even see then when I boot into the recovery so there's clearly something wrong with Mavericks.Â
I have a white 2.0 Ghz MacBook running Tiger 10.4.8 with the latest firmware updates, and 2 GB RAM. I also have an external IDE drive partitioned as FAT32, sitting in a relatively-no-name enclosure via firewire, daisy-chained through my Presonus Firebox external audio unit (I know, not ideal for recording). The MacBook's HDD also has an NTFS partition with XP residing there. Now, it all worked great for a month now, but this week I started having a strange issue. First I noticed that the fans started kicking in even though I wasn't doing anything special. I fired the Activity Monitor up, and indeed, the CPU load was at 140%. So I looked among the processes, and one named "Mass Storage" seemed to be frozen. The obvious, but perhaps a little dangerous, thing to do was to quit it, so I did.
The CPU load returned to normal, and I was still able to access the external drive just fine. So, now, whenever I connect the firewire drive, the mass storage process hangs. I quit it, and everything goes back to normal from there. The question is.. Why does it freeze, and also, what is the whole <i>point</i> of the 'mass storage' process if quitting it doesn't affect anything? When I plug the drive in, iPhoto launches automatically, and by the files that mass storage opens, I'm going to try and track down what's causing it to hang. The last file it opens on the list is /dev/urandom. Also, now that I think about it, FAT32 probably isn't the best filesystem out there. I do need the drive to be compatible with both OS X and Windows though. I suppose I could try HFS+ under OS X, and then using Mac Drive under Win to access the disk.
The Mac Mini has been going through this strange cycle where anytime I plug in an external hard drive or a flash drive it forces me to hold down the power button to turn it off. If I try booting the Mac Mini with the HDD or flash drive plugged in, it refuses to boot

I have a few questions about hard drive formatting and transferring. I currently have an imac i7 running snow leopard. I want to set up a workflow for archiving my personal files as well as client files. I do a lot of video work and I really like to save my stuff. I currently have a raw 1tb 7200rpm samsung running with a harddrive thermaltake reader. I would like to use the samsung 1 tb as an archiving disk. I have looked into drobo and those nice arrays, but I cannot afford it currently. What format should I format the 1tb? I want it as safe as can be. I plan to just store things. So I assume it will only need to be mac accessible, since I understand fat 32 only allows 4 gb transfers.
Should I format my storage drive to Mac os extended (journaled)? And that leads me to my second question. Natively I had already copied a bunch of my stuff to the 1tb harddrive when I first got it because my pc laptop was dying. So it is now a Fat format with stuff on it. I let the harddrive copy onto my desktop overnight in preparation of reformatting the drive. I hit get info on the folder on my desktop and compare to get info of the drive itself. There is about a 3 gb discrepancy between the folders. Where did the 3 gb go? And why? And HOW should I transfer files to make sure ALL of the documents are transferred?
I want to move my imovie files over to the room I have on my spare hard drive. I'm down to only 24 GB on my macbook pro, because of this big project I just finished. Is there a way for me to move all of the files I no longer need? Also, if I have to access them, how easy is this? I have a macbook pro.

1. Should I use the WD Passport as the Time Machine storage device or use the WD Passport software to run back-ups?
2. If I use it for my Time Machine, will I be able to access my files on other machines?

I currently have 1 PC (Windows7) and 1 MBP (Snow Leopard) in the house, the PC has 2 additional HDDs attached with movies and music on them and they are in NTFS format. I can view the contents on my PC via my wireless G network on my Macbook through sharing etc. Now my problem is that I'm getting rid of the PC (hopefully for an iMac in the future) but right now what sort of device would I need to build/buy to attach the 2 NTFS HDDs to the network so my MBP can still access the media on them?

But so it happens, I am now needed to backup files automatically from a Macbook Pro notebook to a NAS device that is attached to the wireless router.The Macbook has some files in it, and a lot of them are constantly updated. The user of the Macbook roams around the building. There is only one NAS device.Can somebody please suggest/recommend a good backup software for this kind of use here?I tried Bonkey. I also have another laptop with more iPhoto images/videos... my problem is that I don't have a burner to get the images off these HD's nor do I know how to combine all the images on an external.Is it possible to (like in iTunes) assign an alternate device for storage of your iPhoto library. I don't see that option in iPhoto.I only have these two old laptops with OSX (10.3.9) an am running out of disk space

I'm kinda broke right now, so instead of buying a new hard drive I loaded ubuntu 10.4 onto an external hard drive (USB) and tried to boot the macbook from it. (Failed). I hold down option to launch Startup Manager and all it shows me is a cursor (no drives). I know the external drive is bootable because I a) booted the laptop from a LiveCD and used it to create the hard drive and b) I booted a Dell from the external. I've tried moving the drive to a different USB port, but no chips. I don't have anything else connected to the computer.Â
my question is: Can I boot the macbook from the external hard drive if the internal hard drive is shot?

I have a Powershot A630 that I connected to my Mac via a USB cable. It is not recognizing the SD card within the camera. Furthermore, putting the SD card in my Digital Concepts SD reader (USB) isn't being recognized either.

I am now eligible for any iPhone upgrades and most likely will be getting the new one coming out this summer - whatever it may be. I realized today that most likely it will have 64GB of storage - the exact same size as my Macbook Air - I think it is so wild my future phone/pocket computer will have the exact same storage capacity as my main laptop. I could potentially mirror everything on my Mac that is on my iPhone in the future.

I'm in Mail and my trash has about 80 deleted messages. I cannot figure out how to do a mass delete. Please don't tell me this has to be done one delete at a time. I've tried a few key strokes and mouse/key combinations, but obviously not the right ones. Now, this is not in MAILBOXES, where a right click and Erase Deleted Items does the job. This is under my 'GMAIL' box, which is linked to MAIL. I can right click--erase deleted items there until I am blue in the face to no avail.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have recently changed all my movie files on my Snow Leopard system to be launchable by QuickTime Player 7 instead of QuickTime Player X [see note below]. For various historical reasons, these movie files have a variety of icons associated with them. I'd like to run some sort of utility which does a mass change of the icons of all my movies to the same, one, single icon ... and I'd like to do this in one fell swoop, instead of having to go through an icon change procedure movie by movie by movie by movie by movie by movie by movie by movie ...
After changing all my movies to be launchable by QT 7, I have restarted Finder and restarted my machine, but the old icons remain on all of the movies.
Is there any way that I can perform this mass icon change under Snow Leopard, or am I out of luck?
I have just updated all of my friends birthdays in iCal. I would like to set it up so that it alerts me 7 days before the date for every birthday. I don't really fancy doing this 60 times, is there anyway to do all of them at once?
View 4 Replies View RelatedEquipment: Mac Mini (Early 2009), Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GHz, 4 GB RAM, Lion. I started noticing my Mac Mini was having trouble reconnecting my Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, slow processing (spinning pinwheel of death), and programs freezing. I did a recovery within Lion from the recovery drive and it seemed to work for a week or so. It started acting up again. So, I decided to erase the HD and reinstall Lion. I basically use the Mac Mini as a server for all my iTunes content. Â
My iTunes default save location is to my Drobo storage unit. Now that I have reinstalled Lion, I am looking for the easiest, most convenient, and safest way to change the default save location in iTunes and then importing the media. It would be nice if it was possible to just simply change the default save location to the folder I previously had all my media saved in and it would just magically appear in iTunes. Everything was organized perfectly, which took hours of time and attention to details. Â
