MacBook Air :: Chime Then Grey Screen / No Apple - Start Up Commands Don't Do Anything

Dec 5, 2014

I have a Macbook Air.  I thought I had lost it, so I erased it from Find My Iphone.  Then of course I found it, my computer was completely erased.  When I started my computer I hear the chime, but then a blank grey screen (no apple).  I have tried every start up command and reset.  I have tried Command R, Option, with and without connecting an Toshiba hard drive that has my computer backed up. I have tried disconnecting everything more my computer. I'm not using an external keyboard.

Again, when I try command R, option, command n, D,T, the shift button, etc. nothing really happens the screen is still grey.

OS X :: Start Up Doesn't Get Past Password Screen

Nov 5, 2009

After booting in safe mode, my MacBook Pro doesn't load the desktop/applications properly. Whenever I enter the password it asks me for the password again. Series of events: I connected external drives for the first time in Apple Bootcamp/Windows. They did not mount and Windows froze whenever I connected the drives. I tried it a few times, each time using the power button for turning the computer off. After a couple of trials the screen color was very weird (psychedelic) and I noticed that the computer had gotten hot (in Windows my fans don't work as they should) and I restarted the in OSX 10.4. The psychedelic colors were still present and the temperature reading was 71 degrees (smc control software). Searching forums in a panic that I might have fried my video card partially I found and followed a description on how to change the screen from "color" to "grey" under System Preferences>Universal access. This did not help as the psychedelic color/pixelness still persisted. Even worse, when I restarted the computer, the above mentioned problem occured (not getting the proper desktop, I can't run any application or shut the computer down, it always tries to reload the desktop after a couple of seconds). What I tried so far: -I resetted the PRAM using the Command, Option, P, and R keys and waiting for two additional startup sounds. Result: the psychedelic color is gone, it looks normal. But still cycles between grey and color during the desktop stall.-I repaired my startup disk with the OSX installation disk...no repairs were necessary -I repaired permissions with the installation disk...lots of repairs were made, but no success upon reboot -I started the computer in safe mode...result: I don't get past the password screen. As soon as I enter the password it asks me for it again.

Software :: Start Up / Restart / Log In - Type Password?

Nov 4, 2008

I don't know what I did. but I have any item in Keychain access named system I can unlock with my administrator Password from within Keychain Access. It doesn't show up on the Keychain Access item in menu bar. And I get message along the lines of. OSX requires you type password (which happens to be same as administrator password). there are only three items in it. a Dashboard advisory certificate, and the names of two airport Router items I have listed and each password for them

G4-500 1.5GB memory
OSX.4.11 on 80GB WD drive set as Slave.
120gb Main drive set as Master with slave using OSX.3.9.11
There appears no way to set preference for this system Key Chain to automatically open. suggestions? I think I also have a complete and Total melt down of the key chain system on my X.3.9 Drive Because I can't get keychain, accounts, Installer, Stickies, and Pacifist to open. There may be other but applications such as word, Acrobat, and all web browsers an mail/news client I have work fine. I deal with that issue after I get this fixed.

MacBook :: Slow Running Commands?

Oct 5, 2010

I've messed up my MacBook and it's now running really slowly (even just clicking on icons, going into folders and suchlike) and I need to find out the best way to sort out the following issue:

I wanted to back up my pictures and (now realise, foolishly) moved them from iPhoto to my desktop so I could transfer it to an external hard drive. It was hanging and had the spinning beachball. This was 7 days ago; it looks like it's done it and is now running very slowly, I know it's lagging because the clocks shows it is sometimes 10 minutes slow and it's whirring and doing something.

I had unplugged the hard drive in case it was slow due to that and from researching other forums for advice I have been able to check the Activity Monitor - the CPU is fine but the disk space is almost zilch (all blue and no green). I now want to delete the pics off my desktop as I'm sure this is the root of the problem. Is there a simple/easy way or do I really have to be patient, delete and trash them one by one?

As you can tell I am not a full on techie but understand simple instruction, so please if you can help me resolve this, I'd be very grateful.

OS X :: Running Terminal Commands Without Logging In?

I know on windows allows you to run batch files without actually logging into the OS. This allows you to put an base image onto a PC and use batch files to change settings, place on active directory, and other things without having to log in.

How do I do this with a mac? I want to be able to run 2 command line commands, one after the other once the other is finished, and then add it to Active directory. Would I do this in perl? and how do I get it to run without logging in so I can start it and then move on to other stuff?
