View 3 RepliesI have been having problems with my Macbook Pro recently not booting up and stuck on the Apple logo screen. Now my MBP DOES mount the HD, It DOES enter Single User Mode, It DOES enter Hardware diagnostics mode and has no problem. What my MBP DOESN'T do is; accept commands in Single User Mode like the "fsck -yf' or any real command NOR does it boot into Safe Mode. i have tried resetting the PRAM also i have tried booting from an external partition that i made.

I bought the 4S, due to safety aspect while driving. Yet texting are dialing are impossible to do using Siri. The standard reply is "I don't understand" or "I'm sorry but I can complete that request".

I only just downloaded Mavericks this past week. I don't like how we have to use the "shift" or "command" key to delete multiple emails. I preferred and found it simpler to just use my mouse and click and highlight. Can this might revert back ?Â
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy dvd player has suddenly stopped accepting discs. The disc only goes in half way before it hits something, almost like there was a disc already in there, but there isn't.The previous disc was ejected. Restarting doesn't change anything. It may be that the disc drive itself needs to be replaced, but that would involve a lot of hassle.

MATSHITA DVD-R  UJ-85J: Superdrive won't accept CD or DVD keeps spitting back out - alas 1000's of iMacs with this superdrive have had the SAME problem from what I have read elsewhere. Apple should replace for free or discount for us out of warranty [URL]
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm having issues with the computer, among which is that the superdrive will not accept any disks... it clicks a couple of times, then spits the disk out. This has been an intermittent problem for about 5 months, but now it seems to be constant. Disk Utility and Disk Warrior (hard drive based) say that I have problems that can only be fixed by restarting with a system disk or DW disk inserted.
I did do the System Management Controller reset but it didn't work. I'll take the computer to an apple store if need be, but is there any way to force a disk to be accepted and read? Also, since I bought Lion via the app store, and have no system disk. Is there a way to fix my hard drive without a physical system or repair disk? I do have the physical disk for Leopard if that would work on Lion. I can't get a CD or DVD to stay in the drive and be read.

I've opened a secondary email account and Mail won't accept the password. I can send OK but not receive. But when I check with bigpond online the test emails are both sent and received but only sent through Mail - tried changing the password many times, quitting app, restart, and even delete that mail account and reenter - all to no avail

I have been having some problems recently with my 06 mac mini that i got in august time its the intel one with GMA950 and a superdrive (i think!) lol its the mashita UJ-846 one. Thats what system profiler says at least lol. :-)
Anyways enough about that, for a while now, it wont accept DVDs or CDs in the drive. I have tried to boot off the install DVD and do hardware test, but the DVD ejected. and it just booted straight into the OS..
Is it time to get a new DVD drive? i got a lacie D2 a coupla years back to help with burning DVDs, cos it wouldnt burn DVDs neither, whether thats cos its the superdrive or cos it was failing, i dont know. At the time i searched about and it seemed like it was a DVD drive that was prone to failing on people. Is there anything i can do to test, n see how busted this bad boy actually is??
Its not essential that i need it working as i use the other DVD drive when required. But if i did want to install SL on it, that could be a bit problematic..
I cannot seem to get my apple mail to accept my gmail account or the password. Gmail works fine if I use the google site for my mail.I know if I am using the correct password because it works in gmail's site?

I have an Intel Mac mini (purchased in 2005 or 2006) with a fresh install of OS X Leopard on it. I recently changed the Startup Disk in the OS X system preferences to be the CD/DVD drive, and everything has gone downhill since there.
I inserted a CD and attempted to boot from it right after changing this setting. I noticed the CD drive spun up the disk, but after waiting several seconds a black screen appeared, saying "No bootable device — insert boot disk and press any key".
There were two problems here: first, the CD never ejected from the computer, and second, there was no response to any key press.
After restarting and shutting down a few times I got the Mac to spit out the CD somehow. I restarted, inserted the same OS X Leopard disk used to install the operating system earlier that day, and got the same "No bootable device" error.
I'm trying to change MTU settings in my router using terminal MacOs 10.5.8. eMac 1GHz.All goes well till I get to saving settings. "saveall" or "SaveAll" I get "Invalid interface name specified"It's probabably not saving settings.

I tried IPCONFIG in Terminal, but it just gives me "IPCONFIG <command> where command is " a whole bunch of commands.
I found some information in another thread that instructed one to write some commands in terminal but I have never used terminal and have no idea what I actually need to write. Can anyone please advise me on how to translate the instructions into what exactly should be typed into terminal?Spaces, special characters, anything? All I know how to do is start the app and then I am faced with some text and characters that are already on the screen. The instructions were:Open a Terminal and run some commands:cd /replace/this/with/the/path/to/contents/of/extracted/zip/file/ #this path probably is Downloads/360ControllerInstallsudo sh 360ControllerInstall.sh
terminal isn't working. It's not accepting any of my commands or even recognizing them as such. And it just opens up to a blank terminal window. Correct me if i'm wrong but isn't it supposed to open usr/bin/login?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've messed up my MacBook and it's now running really slowly (even just clicking on icons, going into folders and suchlike) and I need to find out the best way to sort out the following issue:
I wanted to back up my pictures and (now realise, foolishly) moved them from iPhoto to my desktop so I could transfer it to an external hard drive. It was hanging and had the spinning beachball. This was 7 days ago; it looks like it's done it and is now running very slowly, I know it's lagging because the clocks shows it is sometimes 10 minutes slow and it's whirring and doing something.
I had unplugged the hard drive in case it was slow due to that and from researching other forums for advice I have been able to check the Activity Monitor - the CPU is fine but the disk space is almost zilch (all blue and no green). I now want to delete the pics off my desktop as I'm sure this is the root of the problem. Is there a simple/easy way or do I really have to be patient, delete and trash them one by one?
As you can tell I am not a full on techie but understand simple instruction, so please if you can help me resolve this, I'd be very grateful.
Having some sort of a glitch on my Safari 5.0.2. It turns that if i only have a single window open, the tab will not hide but it will remain. On my macbook though it behaves normally, meaning wear there is only one page on safari, the tab will be hidden. Is there any way i could possibly make my safari behave normal again? Any nifty terminal commands?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI know on windows allows you to run batch files without actually logging into the OS. This allows you to put an base image onto a PC and use batch files to change settings, place on active directory, and other things without having to log in.
How do I do this with a mac? I want to be able to run 2 command line commands, one after the other once the other is finished, and then add it to Active directory. Would I do this in perl? and how do I get it to run without logging in so I can start it and then move on to other stuff?
I'm looking for a good microphone to use the speech settings in Mac OSX, I'm not sure if the Mac Pro comes with one built in or not, but either way, it can't hear me. So I'm wondering if anyone knows of a good quality one, perhaps one that simply clips on to the screen, or plugs into a USB slot on the screen, so I can talk to my Mac?
