I forgot my password on my iBook G4 running OS X none of the keyboard commands work. commands does not put me into single user mode.In fact none of the command keys work.

I told her to insert the original OS CD, restart while holding down the C key and then click on options - change password when it has booted into the original CD. However, it just boots straight to the login screen.

i splashed some theraflu on the right side of the keyboard approximately 3 days ago. as many had mentioned, i removed the keyboard and carefully removed any liquid residue i could find and kept my computer off for a few days. today i went to figure out the damage and everything seems to work okay in terms of the computer turning on and stuff. the keyboard is still acting up though. the left side of the keyboard works mostly okay, but if i press certain letters, the number along with random number appears. the right side of the keyboard, on the other hand, several keys don't even respond at all. from these "symptoms" do you guys think the only thing that i may have to replace is the keyboard or could these "symptoms" i've described be related to some other damage also? how much does replacing a keyboard usually cost? i'm thinking this isn't going to be covered by my warranty. lastly, i've noticed that when i do turn the computer on, it automatically starts in safe-mode.

View 12 Replies View RelatedI've messed up my MacBook and it's now running really slowly (even just clicking on icons, going into folders and suchlike) and I need to find out the best way to sort out the following issue:
I wanted to back up my pictures and (now realise, foolishly) moved them from iPhoto to my desktop so I could transfer it to an external hard drive. It was hanging and had the spinning beachball. This was 7 days ago; it looks like it's done it and is now running very slowly, I know it's lagging because the clocks shows it is sometimes 10 minutes slow and it's whirring and doing something.
I had unplugged the hard drive in case it was slow due to that and from researching other forums for advice I have been able to check the Activity Monitor - the CPU is fine but the disk space is almost zilch (all blue and no green). I now want to delete the pics off my desktop as I'm sure this is the root of the problem. Is there a simple/easy way or do I really have to be patient, delete and trash them one by one?
As you can tell I am not a full on techie but understand simple instruction, so please if you can help me resolve this, I'd be very grateful.
I know on windows allows you to run batch files without actually logging into the OS. This allows you to put an base image onto a PC and use batch files to change settings, place on active directory, and other things without having to log in.
How do I do this with a mac? I want to be able to run 2 command line commands, one after the other once the other is finished, and then add it to Active directory. Would I do this in perl? and how do I get it to run without logging in so I can start it and then move on to other stuff?
I recently got my computer fixed and ended up getting a new one. it is a mac book laptop. I changed the password before it got sent and i completely forgot it. They backed my new laptop up with my old hard drive so now i got my old stuff on the new one. I want to download this application so i can fix this .zip file but i need the admin password. I've tried using the install discs but they tell me to enter the admin. I've tried putting the install disc in and pushing c on start up but it just freezes on the white screen with the apple. Is there something wrong with my computer? should i contact the insurance company who i dealt with?

Trying to reset the pram in order to fix a firewire-port-issue bot do not succeed. Press cmd-alt-p-r before the grey screen comes up and continues to press these keyes but nothing is happening. Have also treid some other start up commands but nothing happens. Have tried both a full alu keyboard and a alu-keyboard without the num pad - makes no difference.Also have maked sure that the firmwar-password is dissabled.Have a mac mini 1,83ghz 2gb ram with 10.5.8 running.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have a Mac Mini 2006 with Core Duo 1.66Ghz and an 80GB HDD. I use this computer as a Media Centre PC (not really nesecarry information). The 80GB hard drive has died in this machine. I know this because I took the drive out, formatted it, reinstalled it in the mini and attempted to install snow leopard from a boot disk. It gets to about 60% and then throws an error - clearly the drive is about to die. Â
In my wisdom, I opened the Mini up and replaced the hard drive with a drive from an old (but dead) windows laptop. When I did so and rebooted, I connected a USB keyboard and held down the option key on boot to boot into startup screen (to select the the boot disk I had made). The SL boot disk on a USB key which is recognised when I boot it on another mac. The mini seems not to recognise the keyboard input when holding down the option key. The mac booted straight into Windows which was on the new drive. It booted into the windows "windows did not boot correctly last time, do you want to start up in startup mode?) screen. The keyboard inputs were also not recognized on this screen.Â
I thought that there may have been an error because windows was on the drive, so I scrubbed the drive and re-installed it as a completely blank drive in the Mini. Again attempted to get to the startup screen and again the same problem. Only this time I am getting a flashing folder with a question mark (meaning the mini cannot detect any bootable drive presumably). The USB stick is flashing, but to me the Mini cannot recognize the keyboard input from the connected keyboard. Could the USB ports have somehow been damaged? Also through this process, I have reset the P-RAM on the mini as well. Â

I just installed a new application for my Macbook Pro but when I clicked to use it. It asked for my password. I typed my password but it says it's wrong. I am using this computer right now and now I want to change my password but everytime I try to type my password it says it's wrong. How can I change my password while I am on ? I am presently using a Macally keyboard that is several years old. (I like the feel for typing.) System preferences allow for one key commands, but do not work with this keyboard. I just installed Leopard to my old 14" Mac G4 laptop. Everything was going fine until the first screen dialog box asked for my password. I tried the usual suspects.. even my hint was "the usual one" and I cannot get the computer to accept it or anything else. I am in a loop and cannot get any further. The dialogue box gives you log in, restart and shut down. Is there a work around? How do I get out of this mess? I am in deep poop as I need to access my computer. What can I do... I'm logging on to someone else's computer until I can get back into mine.

I purchased a new Mac and had to deauthorize all computers in itunes because I had over 5. i have never put a firmware password on my mac. But when it did a soft ware update it the mac froze, Then it restarted and now it is asking me for a firmware password.
