I am trying to print via LPD on my MBP to a Windows 7 computer. I already enabled LPD Server in the "Enable Windows Features" dialog in Windows 7.I added it by the CUPS admin page (IP I used was lpd://10.0.0.11/ because the computer's IP is 10.0.0.11) and it seemed to add fine. I selected the model (Samsung CLP 620) and tried printing a test page.
View 4 RepliesI bought a used Mac Mini (2.0GHz, 4GB Ram-seller bought in July '09) this last week. It has Snow Leopard (10.6.1). It started off with trying to install my HP printer that is shared out on a Windows XP machine. Originally when I turned on the Mini, I could see all the Windows machines (two Vista and one XP) machines on my WIFI network. I used the printer & fax function in system preference to add the printer (I could see it in the list under Windows). I sent over a couple print jobs, Mac shows it is gone, Windows machine shows the job in the printer Queue. Eventually the job simply goes away after 1-2 minutes with nothing coming out.

I installed the Chrome beta a while back, and it's been updating itself since, but I need to finally get extensions working - I need my Adblock (Digg is completely unbearable without it). I read about the method to enable it weeks ago, just install the dev version - agree to the EULA and download. I did that, and overwrote the existing copy of Chrome. I didn't remove any other files. I still can't install extensions using the bookmarklet - it enables the install button, but I receive 'Extensions are not enabled' immediately after the download tries to start. The other thing is, the dev version is supposed to include the bookmark manager. That's also nowhere to be seen. Chrome says I'm running version 4.0.249.30 and that it's up to date. Any ideas? Do I have to completely remove Chrome before installing the dev version (i.e. everything I've built up in my Chrome profile to this point in Application Support)?

The host computer has a static IP address which is different from the IP address that the laptop is looking for. How do I change the laptop so that it looks for the host computer's correct IP? View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm currently running OSX 10.9.5 on a mid-2013 MacBook Air and have hooked it up to a Canon Pixma MP230 3-in-1 printer. This printer has a built-in manual two-sided printing function, where the user flips the pages for the printer to print on both sides. This feature was working great right about until a few months ago, and suddenly the option is no longer showing up when I attempt to print out of Google Chrome, nor is it available when I try to print using the personalised printer dialog.
My current printer driver is 11.7.1.0, which came out in Sept 2014. I don't know how to downgrade to an older driver (I have tried several times!).
The option for two-sided printing is simply greyed out on the printer dialog, and there is no option to turn it on in the printer setting (no driver tab).

I've searched far and wide on the internet on how to remedy this, but as I stated above, I don't have a driver tab on my printer setting, so this cannot be simply "turned on" somewhere in the settings, because I did nothing to "turn it off" in the first place. Note: other printers display a two-sided printing option on my laptop, so it's this particular printer and driver that are the issue.

Then along came 10.4.x and broke the version of CUPS I was using (I think that was the story.) So I backed down to CUPS v1.2.12 which I've been using since then. (The details are a little foggy so I apologize for possibly not having release versions definite.) Since then, like anyone else using CUPS I've had to reinstall CUPS every time I apply an Apple system update. Are you aware of any means to remove CUPS v1.2.12 and return to using the Apple-supplied printing components?

Then something happened (probably as a result of an update) and I can't print on that shared printer any more. The error I get on the printer is that annoying /usr/libexec/cups/backend/dnssd failed, OR the "authentication required" message. The printer works just fine on the iMac.I tried several fixes posted here and there such as re-setting the printing system and re-adding the printer in both machines, tried to fix it over the CUPS interface,URL]Unfortunately nothing worked. OK, I run a MacBook 13in, OS 10.5.8 with the superdrive that came with the machine.
Really, I'm not stupid, and I actually do successfully troubleshoot stuff usually..
However, I am baffled as to why I can not access the DVD-ROM special features on my Disney DVD movie discs. (I actually installed Interactual Player for Mac thinking maybe I needed it, but I can't say it helped.)
I can play the movie, and my son can play the games, but their are printables on the disc that when I click on them it tells me to access these features, , insert your disk into a DVD-ROM drive.... OK, As many of you already know there is is only the one disc drive on this computer... I tried searching in the "folders" of the disc for any file format I thought would open in another application ( say a txt, doc, html, xml, etc) but none of those are the printable pages supposedly on the disc. I even tried to use my husband's PC (GASP!) but got the same answer.
Try to open iChat window, version 4.0.8. in Time Machine. The TM window changes to a finder window. Is this normal for an application like TM? Trying to get back an open chat. not recorded.

I have previously used the GRAB utility to take a snapshot of an open Safari windiw, and the snapshot included the entire windiw contents. When I opened the snapshot in Preview, I could scroll up and down and view the entire contents of the original Safari windiw. Then, I tried it again a few hours later on a different Safari window, but I then got only the part of the windiw that was visible in the browser at the time that I GRABbed the window (i.e., when I took the snapshot).What do I need to do to get the entire windiw?

Why is hiding a window / app not a 1-click window control? Perhaps with Option+Click as Hide All Others.Window controls exist to streamline common tasks; hiding is a very common task in OS X.

I tried Safari 4, but I still prefer my Firefox addons. The addon I'm specifically looking for is a way to get the "top sites" page into Firefox. I think I remember seeing this at one time, but I can no longer find it.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have installed ubuntu on a partition on my uMB and I am having trouble getting some features like two finger scrolling and right click on the trackpad as well as getting the bluetooth to work to be able to pair with my wireless mighty mouse. Also the speakers do not work. My priority is getting the bluetooth to work because If I have a working mouse the trackpad won't really matter. When I try to pair my mouse with the bluetooth I can see it but when I enter the "0000" passcode and click connect it says connection failed.

The original movie is on the first DVD, and the second disc is all the bonus material. I tried ripping the special features disc in Handbrake, and I only got part of the bonus material, and not the material in particular I wanted. I've looked through all the source titles, and they only show part of the features. How do I get to the features I want using Handbrake?

I was reading the features page on the Mac Pro site and Apple states:�Westmere� is available in both quad-core and 6-core versions, and the Mac Pro comes with either one or two processorsI thought Westmere started at 6 cores in a single processor configuration? I then went to the tech specs page and under "Processor upgrade options", it only shows the quad cores as "Nehalem".So is there such thing as a Westmere quad? Or is this just a goof up from Apple? If there is a quad version, might anyone more knowledgeable in processors know what might be a predictable BTO price would be from Apple? And if this might use the newer 1333Mhz RAM?
