OS X :: Built In Ethernet (G4) Not Communicate With Router

Sep 18, 2009

So, the built ethernet will not communicate with the N+ Belkin router I just bought. I don't think the ethernet cable is a crossover (plus it worked when plugged directly into the cable modem, it also worked when setting up the ibook) and when I plug both ends into two of the four slots of the router the "wired" light comes on (according to folks at Belkin this proves my cable is good).

The Belkin folks are blaming my ethernet port and believe there is something I could do but can't help reconfigure the ethernets IP address? Just to double check, I hooked up the belkin with my ibook G4 (Dual 533) and it worked fine through the router. The ibook has airport, do I need Airport in my old G4 desktop? Can't I just leave it connected to my router (if it worked). The whole point is to get two computers on line at the same time.

Hardware :: USB Hub With Built In Ethernet?

Apr 26, 2010

Does this exist? I want a device which lets me plug multiple hard drives into it so it can act like a hub, but which also allows me to access any of the drives over the network when I want to. A NAS wouldn't work because I want the ability to remove the drive without having to put it in another enclosure etc. I'd rather just swap it and go. So basically, it's like a usb hub, except you can choose whether you want to use usb to access everything connected to it OR you can choose to use ethernet. Would this work [URL] if I have up the ability to have multiple drives
and just put everything on that?

OS X :: Internet Connection - Built In Ethernet Configurations

Apr 19, 2009

How to connect my powermac g4 to the internet. I was told that it has the "built-in ethernet" and that all I need to do is config it so it will pick up the wireless signal from the router on the main family computer. But whenever I go to config the network connection, and check the status, it tells me that the built-in Ethernet is not plugged in. Do I not have the built in ethernet? I just want to connect to the internet, but I don't want to spend over $120 to have geeksquad come and do it if I can just do it myself.

OS X :: Transfer Files From PC To MBP Using Ethernet Router?

Jul 7, 2009

I just got a MacBook Pro (bootcamp with Vista) and I want to transfer all my old files from my PC desktop onto my new MacBook. So far I have connected both computers to a router via ethernet and copied some files, but I have only figured out how to do this while the Mac is bootcamped into Vista. I have the computers hooked up correctly, but what do I do within Mac OS X in order to transfer files from my PC desktop straight to OS X. So far I have copied to Bootcamp Vista, then copied from that to my main OS X partition, but this is way slow. I want to copy directly to OS X.

OS X :: Connecting Router To Second Ethernet Port?

Dec 2, 2009

Can I connect a wireless router to the second ethernet port of my MacPro? I have the main ethernet cord from the modem connected to my ethernet port 1, then I connected my router to my computer through ethernet 2, thinking that it would broadcast the internet connection. However, it is not working. The router is broadcasting, but the internet isn't working (and the light indicating internet connection on the router is yellow, not green). Is this something that isn't possible? Or do I need to change settings (not just plug and go)?

OS X :: Airport / Ethernet Connects But Can't Ping Router

Jul 10, 2009

My iBook G4 is having network issues. Since waking from sleep, it will connect to my Airport Extreme base station, but I can't access the web, or access the router from Airport Utility.

Things I've tried so far:

*Rebooting

*Resetting the router to factory defaults

*Swapping out the router for a Linksys

*Clearing out network passwords from Keychain

I doubt it's a hardware issue, as everything works in Tiger (booting from an external drive).

OS X :: Directly Plug Into Router Via Ethernet - Use Mini DVI To HDMI Adapter?

Nov 17, 2010

I'm struggling to find the best approach here. Here's what I got:

1) Mac Mini 2.0Ghz running Snow Leopard
2) Mac Book Pro 2.53Ghz running Leopard
3) Mac Book 2.0Ghz running Leopard

My wife and I each use a laptop as our regular computer. The Mac Mini we just picked up and are looking to use it as a home server (although it doesn't have Snow Leopard Server). We use a program for our business called Daylite that hosts a database that we share between laptops - this is being hosted on the Mac Mini, which will always be powered on so we each can access it. There are also a couple folders that we would like to share on the Mac Mini. This Mac Mini will also sit next to our HDTV to be used for streaming, HULU Netflix, etc. My problem is that I don't know the best way to configure the Mac Mini on the network. I have a Verizon Actiontec Router and Comcast Internet (Dynamic IP, although it has been the same for some time). My questions are:

1) Does it make a difference if I have the Mac Mini directly plugged into the router via ethernet vs wireless? Right now, when we try and File Share between the Mac Mini and laptops, it takes forever to connect, navigate, save files, especially if I am saving to the Mac Mini, from a laptop using Photoshop or even Word.
2) Do I gain anything from running the cable modem directly to the Mac Mini and the enable Internet Sharing from the two laptops, as opposed to using the router?
3) I transferred 1 gig worth of files from a laptop to the Mac Mini and it literally took an hour. I retried it using a direct connection via eithernet between the two computers and it took 10 minutes. I'm hoping that optimizing my setup will speed up my local network transfers. Yes, no?
4) Can I used a Mini DVI to HDMI adapter from my Mac Mini to my tv? If so, does this also send audio signal? It's an Early 2009 Mac Mini.

Hardware :: AirPort Express Setup - Connected To Router Via Ethernet

Dec 16, 2008

I'm trying to connect an AE to my PC using XP with a D-Link DIR-655 WiFi router. I've used the airport utility and connected the AE to my router via ethernet. It appears to be setup properly and I can see it on the D-Link software. After disconnecting the ethernet cable and with the AE sitting next to the router it continually shows up and then disappears. The light is green on the AE. Then I disconnected the power and moved the AE into the place where I'm going to use it.

Now it will show up on my D-Link software occasionally but the light won't turn green. It also doesn't show up on the airport utility software. I also have a Touch and ATV that both work fine on the same network and the same location. The AE is about 30 feet from the router with only one wall in between them. Am I missing something here or could there be a problem with the AE?

Hardware :: Connect Both Airport Express And Ethernet Wire To Router?

May 16, 2010

I have a modem (Tilgin Vood 342) that came from the phone company which I use to connect my old desktop PC and my new MacBook Pro to the internet, through two separate ethernet cables. The modem has three ethernet ports and connects to the internet through an ethernet port in the wall. I want to buy an Airport Express in order to get wireless internet to my MacBook, but since my desktop PC can't receive wireless internet, I still need it to be plugged into the modem through a cable (I don't mind that). So my question is, can I use one of the modem ports for the Airport Express and another for the ethernet cable without there being a conflict?

I'm asking because I went to an electronics store and I was told that there might be a conflict and that I should buy an Airport Extreme or another router with ports in order for it to work. I would really prefer the Express because it's and it's the most I can pay for.

OS X :: IMac Showing "Built-In Ethernet" As Inactive?

Mar 21, 2009

I have an Intel 24" iMac running 10.4.something (sorry I'm vague but I'm not at my office) The mac is part of a mini network of 3 iMacs, all working perfectly until yesterday when one of them wouldn't print to my network printer. I had a look at the network settings and it was showing "Built-In Ethernet" as inactive. All the other macs work fine. I tried switching the cables from other macs to establish if I had a cable problem. Still no success. I switched ports on the hub also. Same issues.

As all the others are still working fine, I guess the problem must be with the mac, nothing else. The crazy thing is, the mac nadn't even had a reboot when it stopped working. I just woke it from sleep in the morning and that was that.

Mac Pro :: 2009 Won't Communicate With The Connected Monitor

Aug 25, 2014

my mac pro desktop was bought roughly in 2009.its running the latest os that this model can run with tiger.the problem used to be intermittent, now it is very hard to get this thing to communicate with the external monitor.the led on the mac shows that its on but it won't chime as it starts up.whenever it did cut on,it would stay on for a moment then a dark tint would scroll over the screen desktop from top to bottom and everything freezes.i then have to turn off the computer from the button.A side note:This computer never functioned properly from day one when i was using it to run my protools music recording DAW.i could barely complete songs as it would run out of cpu and processing power.the computer has 14 gigs of ram,and quad core processing.i took it to apple store for tech support but they found nothing.now i am solely trying to run my serato dj software with it.based on these symptoms, what is wrong with my computer? is it software problem or is it a bad graphics card, bad cpu,is there any parts i can buy to inexpensively overhaul this computer?

OS X :: Ethernet Cable Connecting Ethernet Port To IPhone - Feasible?

May 20, 2009

I was just wondering if any other macrumorsmembers have been in the situation where there's no wifi, no decent 3G, but ethernet ports available to use, but you don't have a computer handy? Would it be possible that you could create an ethernet cable one end, dock the other, and literally connect e.g. an iPhone into the ethernet? At my place of work, there's no signal (dodgy GPRS/flakey Edge), some wifi, but in halls of residence, you get 1 ethernet port, and you can't put a wireless router onto it. It would seem that it would be an interesting solution, if it was possible.

MacBook Pro :: Communicate With The Storage On The Laptop Via Bluetooth ?

Sep 13, 2010

The ScreeniPad could communicate with the storage on the laptop via bluetooth and work as a standalone iPad as well. At times the full notebook is not needed while at other times it is. An advanced iPad screen that is detachable form the main body of the notebook fits a lot of needs.I think it advances the iPad to a next level IE: who wouldn't buy the iPad screen model over a standard perm-attached screen model? By incorporating the two, it eliminates the choice between one or the other making it easy on the buyer to have both. And it slams the door on design from the competition for a while for sure.

Hardware :: Magic Mouse Not Communicate In Windows?

Sep 16, 2010

I have just recently purchased a new 27" iMac i7 and everything so far seems to run as planned. I have successfully partitioned the OS Boot drive via Boot Camp to enable me to use Windows & Mac OS natively, however, in Windows XP I cannot seem to add the Magic Mouse device via bluetooth.

I have read numerous articles/threads/tutorials but still can't get to the bottom of the issue. I've followed the steps where you input the passcode (0000) or no passcode but there is no communication. Also when I right click on the mouse (device has been found), properties, I tick the box "keyboard, mouse and misc functions (HID)" it states "access denied"??

I then close the Bluetooth Device setup, start it back up to see if it has connected but unfortunately the mouse has disappeared again? Any ideas?

(Note: I am running Bootcamp v3.1 and my wired keyboard is fine.)
