OS X :: Airport Turns Off And Won't Turn On?
Mar 21, 2009
My airport/wireless works fine most of the time, but sometimes when I close the lid, and reopen it, my airport will not turn back on. It turns on neither automatically nor through the preference pane. The button to turn airport on is clickable, but nothing happens.
I'm new to Macs, and I like them so far. But this is getting really annoying as the only way I've found to fix it is to restart the computer.

My screen is black but my laptop is not off.. and its not that only the screen is black, my mac on sleep (i think)...When I turn my mac on, it does turn on.. The starting screen comes out.. but the moment the desktop opens, the screen goes black. And if I try to wake my mac up by pressing any key, the mouse shows for like three seconds(on the black screen, not my desktop). So that means that my mac is not totally off, it's just that the screen is black. But once in a while, when I press any button, my desktop shows for five seconds and the screen turns black again. I had yesterday was that the finder was keep restarting. I was still able to go on all the apps except that I could not open any files on my desktop.

So, okay, I happen to have an 13-inch MacBook (aluminum). Before I move on to point out all the problems I'm having, I guess I should point out I bought it from BestBuy, and open box. Don't worry, no need to scold me, I've learned my lesson.
What happens with it is that it freezes at random. Completely. It doesn't do a thing. I can't move the mouse, and nothing on the screen moves. This forces me to do a hard reboot. Sometimes, when that happens, when I turn the computer back on, airport doesn't appear. I check on networks, and it won't turn itself on. I have to turn off the computer and turn it back on until it decides to appear.
Apart from that, there are times where Airport randomly decides to shut itself off. At the top, I can see the Airport icon but the signal lines are gone. It's completely blank, as if I had turned it off. If I try to turn it back on, it doesn't do it. I click to turn it back on and it doesn't do anything.
I took it to BestBuy since I have a warranty with them. First time, they said my harddrive was faulty and they'd replace it with no cost. Fair enough. When I picked it up a week and a half later, the problem was still there! I left it at BestBuy again, and the guy told me that he can't find a problem with it. That he had run all the tests and that my computer passed them all without a problem. He checked everything, and yet the problem is still there.

I recently had my screen replaced because of a crack. Now I find when I open the laptop to use, after being on sleep mode. It momentarily turns blue, sort of flashes/glitches then works normally. Should I be concerned?

I am on the latest version of Mavericks, with all updates installed. My 2009 MacBook Pro freezes a little bit after airport turns on. This would appear to also carry over to when the computer is starting up because when I am able to turn and keep airport off the computer never freezes during startup. Less than 3 moths ago I had Bly airport card replaced so I doubt that the problem is with the hardware.
Except for this one issue, my computer is running perfectly fine. The problem has persisted with a clean reinstall of OS Mavericks. It'd be happy to rely on an Ethernet cable, but that won't be possible in the near future, at least not without lots of wires running across the floor.

So I went to my in-laws house and for some reason I couldn't connect to their Airport/Router. I was on it once before and none of the settings were changed because I was on the router with my iPhone at that point. So I tried to turn off my Airport on my Mac just to see if that would work, and it won't turn off. I restarted my computer and nothing, still stays on. I turned off my Time Machine just to see if that was the issue and it wasn't. I will probably make an appointment with Apple and maybe call Applecare, but just wanted to see if anyone had any ideas here 1st.
I am now back at home and stuff can't turn it off. If it helps I am running Snow Leopard on my Mac.

1.- The imac turned off by it self.
2.- I tried to turned on pressing the turn on/off button and it did not do anything.
3.- I disconected the computer form the wall and wait for some minutes, and it did no do anything.
4.- After about 20 minutes i tried again and turned on by pessing the on and off button.
5.- The imac turned off again and disconected form the wall and conected to another electrical contact at the wall, adn it did not turned on. i wait for some minutes and turned on again, but after about five minutes it turned off again.
6.- I left the imac connected to the wall for a couple hours and i tried to turned onn by pessing the on/off button and it did not turned on.
7.- I left all night connected form the wall and tried to turn it on this morning and it did not turn on.
8.- This time, I only disconnected the imac cord form the back of the computer and left it for a couple of hours, then I concected and turned on
9.- All the times that the computer turned on it started like a restart and no announce or windows appear telling me about an error or something like that.
10.- One of the times I touched the computer at the back and felt it hot, not too hot, but I do not how normal is.
11.- I can feel some very, very little air at the back form the vent.
What do I hve to do? What kind of tests can I do to know if the computer's an is working ok?

I have a problem where anything I'm downloading stalls and the only way to start transferring anything again is to turn Airport off and then back on. This happens about once a day on my brand new MP.
I swapped out the wireless router to no effect. Anyone else seen this problem?

I have a Macbook Pro 17" 2.6 GHZ. Model A1261.
The Airport keeps turning off and I can't turn it back on only after a restart, then it will work for another few minutes and then the same problem happens again.
Once it turns off when I click on "turn Airport On" nothing happens.
Will buying a new airport card help for my problem? and if yes what exactly do I need to buy.
I already tried a few other things like resetting etc. but no luck.

Whenever I shut the lid and reopen later, airport does not turn on. I cannot get it to turn on manually. Twice, it has said "Airport Card Not Installed" when I right clicked it.
Additionally, the whole mac froze up twice yesterday. Any ideas on how to refresh or clean up things?
I tried to find a utility or update, but none were found. I looked manually, and couldn't find anything. I tried the disk utility, but it came back saying nothing was wrong.

I was trying to access my father's wireless network while I was home for a week. I found a utility to configure for a mac (my dad only has Windows), but after running it, and it failed to find the router, my airport will not turn on. The option to "turn AirPort on" is grayed out and cannot be clicked. I have attached two pictures to illustrate. I have restarted twice to no avail.

I've got 2 wifi networks that I use in my flat. I like to use the right one depending on what part of the flat I'm in to get the best signal. They are both password protected. Lately I haven't been able to connect to one of them. When I choose it from the list of networks in airport, it just pulses the icon in the menu bar and then reverts back to the other network which has a worse signal when I am in that part of the flat. When I try to access other locked networks I get a pop up asking to enter password. But with my own network I don't get this pop up - just the pulsing icon. Further I can't even turn off airport. I try to turn it off in system preferences by pressing the turn off airport button but nothing happens.
Macbook white.
Mid 2009 version.
Using snow leopard.
Now I can't connect to either of my networks, getting connection failed notices. I know the networks are still working because my housemates can still connect with their laptops.

My mac laptops always bring up that annoying wireless network selection window upon opening, even when I'm connected through a physical cable. Is there any way to automatically turn the airport off when physically connected? This seems like something that should be easy...

After I installed Snow Leopard everything has been working fine but I installed the latest Brother fax/printer driver and supporting apps yesterday Airport stopped working. So I restarted the computer but still won't turn on, no matter what I do. I'm not 100% sure if they are related but it's hard to believe they are not. I can remove all the Brother related stuff but I still need the printer driver.
Has anybody had this problem and can anybody suggest a solution?

I used to have a problem with my late-2006 13" white MacBook where, if I opened up a bunch of Safari tabs/windows at a time, or a bunch too quickly, or was downloading podcasts with iTunes and opened up another internet-dependent app?my wireless connection would drop. I would still see the full signal strength in the menu bar (all four "bars" of that rounded signal monitor), but the Up and Down activity would drop to 0.
The only way to re-start the connection was to click on the signal monitor, select Turn Airport Off, and then just select Turn Airport (back) On. Only then, would the connection come back on. This was a pain, especially if I was in the middle of a big download, as I usually had to restart the whole download..................

I am using a white macbook connecting to a dlink router. Constantly, over and over and over (as in every 30 seconds or less) I have to go to the top right hand corner of my macbook's screen and click the Airport icon. I then have to click "Turn Airport off" and "Turn Airport On" for the internet to begin working again. It times out CONSTANTLY regardless of what room I am in and the only trouble is with my macbook, nobody else's. The wireless network works perfectly fine and loads pages very quickly, then stops randomly and I have to reset it... I moved back into my mom's house for a month between houses and this is driving me crazy. I can't get any work done. I tried searching and no luck.

Had (used) iBook G4 several months now & thoroughly enjoy it, even tho' I live in the sticks where there's no hi-speed/wireless available; I connect to internet & power, which is fine.
This weekend I went to turn off my iBook & it wouldn't turn off. It's now permanently on, with opening info barely visible (like I need to click on F2 to brighten up, except nothing happens).
Currently using my "back up" computer, my iMac Grape, which is pretty much an antique by now.

I have a problem with my 17'' MBP unibody:
1) Bluetooth is ON:
I can't turn it off. The checkbox is inactive.
But I can turn it off, if I choose "Share my internet connection for other units". (I don't know, if this is the right text in english, because my OSX is in german)
2) Now Bluetooth is OFF:
But I can't turn it on, because the checkbox "ON" is inactive.
It turns only on, if I choose "New Unit"(?). Then there is a new window, that says, that this is only possible if Bluetooth turns on. If I say OK, bluetooth turns ON.
Back to 1)
What's the problem. Why is this f* checkbox for turning bluetooth on and off inactive?
This is not a hardware problem, because I can have stable bluetooth connections.
I did a smc and am pram reset. But it doesn't help.
