Intel Mac :: Lose Wifi Connection With Airport Express?

Jun 26, 2012

Everytime I turn on the computer, there is no wifi connection.  The symbol is still at the top of the screen, but is gray rather than black.  I can click on it and it gives me the choice of my network or a neighbor's.  All I have to do is click on mine and it connects.

Intel Mac :: Why Does It Sometimes Use 100% CPU (kernel_task) And Lose Internet Connection

Jun 24, 2012

I have a 27" iMac running OSX Lion 10.7.3. Some time in the last 2-3 weeks, it has started to getting into a state where the kernel_task is using 100% of one CPU constantly. When this happens, it also kills my Internet connection and I cannot use the browser, email, Skype, Twitter, etc. I have tried putting it to sleep, closing all programs that are open checked the process list with ps to see if I could find anything weird, but it still keeps happening.

I have to restart the computer whenever this happens. It might happen again in a couple of minutes or not for several hours, but happen it does. I thought it might be Chrome or Mail for a while, but it happened today when those were not running.

IMac (Intel) :: Computer Lose The Ability To Use A Correctly Connected WiFi

Jun 28, 2014

I have a mac desktop. Just recently, possible since an upgrade to mavericks, it loses its ability to use wifi its clearly recognises as connected. The temporary solution I have involves opening the network and running wifi diagnostics. It always comes back and says it is all fine but it fixes it. ie the act of running diagnostics resolves the problem.

Happens every 10 mins or so when using and is now becoming a sore point.

I am not even slightly technical. I turn on, I type, I turn off.

OS X :: Airport Express Drops Connection?

Apr 13, 2010

I have two wifi networks each using identical airport extreme router but different cable companies. The networks are separated by a substantial distance. To my knowledge both are set up identical and using the latest software revision and are accessed by the same MB and MBP.

The problem I am having is that in one location I drop a connection about 2 times a day. The TV signal remains. By turning off Airport Extreme for about 30 seconds and then powering it back up, the connection returns. When I go to reset the router, the indicator light on the AE router is always green.

This cable company claims it is my problem.

The other location (different cable company) has never dropped a signal.

Again, I use the same MBP and MBooks on both networks.

I cannot change the "bad" cable company as there is only one choice in this location.

OS X :: Airport Express / IMac G4 Dropping Connection?

Oct 9, 2009

I recently got an iMac G4. It had no wireless, and since that's what I use I bought the (correct) Airport Express Card. I installed it without a hitch, and it seemed to be working fine, until I reinstalled Leopard. Now every 2-3 minutes Airport will simply drop the connection. I have no idea why. I have updated all the firmware, but it continues to drop the connection.

I should also note that I'm on a MacBook right now that hasn't dropped the connection to the same wireless network.

Hardware :: Airport Express Works With WiFi Computer Only?

Dec 21, 2008

I want to buy an Airport Express to stream by iMac Itune library but not sure if it works as I want -

I have a normal Asus wireless route in my living room. My iMac is in my bed room and can only be LANed via wired connection. My home Hi Fi audio system is in my living room but there cannot be LAN cable between my router and Hi Fi audio system.

If the Airport is connected to my Hi Fi audio system, can I still also stream my iMac Itune libarary? Or Airport must stream a Wi-Fi connected computer?

Hardware :: Running AirPort Express On G And Extreme WiFi On N?

So I have an airport extreme. I am planning on getting an airport express, to use exclusively for airtunes. I have a Palm Pre (it's WiFi is only b/g not N). If I use the Palm Pre on my airport extreme, it lowers my wifi connection to G speeds as opposed to N. Can I make the airport express run on G only but still extend the extreme's wifi (running on N)?

Hardware :: Airport Express Doesn't Recognize LAN Connection?

Aug 24, 2008

The case: I want to plug in the Ethernet LAN cable from my DSL cable modem to my Airport Express so that it provides me with W-LAN for my notebook (Sony VAIO, soon to be MacBook Pro owner). The problem: The Airport Express doesn't recognize the Ethernet Internet - it just tells me that there is nothing plugged into its WAN port. (But the cable is!) If I plug the same cable directly into my notbook WAN port, it works fine so I guess there's no defect in the cable ... Settings are PPPoE (needed to connect to my Internet). Any other information needed? Just let me know. If anybody out there has a hint for me, let me know. I wonder if this is a Windows thing? On the other hand - as the Airport Express doesn't recognize that the Ethernet cable is plugged in - it doesn't matter if MAC or Windows cause this is even a step before the computer itself comes in play.

Hardware :: Using Airport Express To Extend Wifi From Time Capsule?

Sep 13, 2010

Sorry if this question has been asked many times before - I tried running numerous searches, but it's been difficult to find a straightforward answer to my predicament.

I have a time capsule and an airport express. I would like to extend the range of my wifi network as my modem (attached to the time capsule) is on the third floor of my home and I'd like to improve the strength of my internet connection to the lower floors. I've tried to set-up airport express (located on the 2nd floor, but initially set-up near my time capsule) and the time capsule with the extend range options, but my airport express doesn't seem to improve the range of the wifi. I tested my internet speed by running the test away from airport express, near airport express and with my laptop connected to airport express via ethernet. In fact, connecting the laptop to airport express seems to produce the slowest download speed and being near airport express does not seem to provide faster download speeds.

Can someone point me to straightforward instructions where I can setup airport express to extend the range of my wifi network that uses time capsule? Also, how will I know that airport express is extending my range? When I view my wireless networks, should I see my airport express as one of the wireless networks that I can connect to?

OS X :: Airport Express Receives Weak Wifi Signal And Repeater?

I made a deal with a neighbor where we share the cost of internet. We use a wifi network and I use my MBP in my office and get 2, sometimes 3 bars of wifi. I wanted to extend wifi to the rest of the house and also be able to plug in my printer so I bought an airport express.First problem I'm running into is that where my 2009 MBP 13" laptop gets 2-3 bars, the router doesn't even SEE the wifi signal from the original D-Link Router.

Hardware :: AirPort Express Is Constantly Cutting Out And Has Connection Problems?

Jan 1, 2009

All of a sudden my MacBook Pro (early 08) and my Airport Express (n) are having massive problems keeping connected. Over the last couple of weeks I've had a lot of:

MBP not finding my APE, even though it's in the drop down list. When I click it it says I need a password (which it has pre-input in the password box) and, when I click OK, it tries to connect but fails saying "Connection Timeout".

It connects but then, 15 secs later, disconnects, then reconnects, then disconnects etc. and this goes on with the wifi symbol in the toolbar switching between black and grey until I restart the MBP.

If it does all work, it will often just stop. The internet will hang and when I click to reload, Safari says I'm not connected - even though the wifi is connected.

Often, no amount of restarting the MBP or APE will put it right (I've managed to get on right now by completely reconfiguring the APE).

Does anyone else have these issues? Anyone know what the problems are? I thought Apple stuff 'just worked'?!

Hardware :: Loosing Network Connection After Adding Airport Express?

Oct 1, 2009

I added an airport express to my network tonight. The network is wep128 secured which did not show up at first on the express. After I added this, I started to be able to play itunes to my stereo and every once in a while it would drop out. I notice, my network was dropping on my computer. I can manually reconnect, but even then it show disconnected by work with itune and my stereo and even works for sending this note. It will drop again soon.

sometime, i need to reenter my wep assword into my laptop and once it actually seemed to erase my passowrd and said the key would be found automatically

I did not setup a bridge, did not setup static ip addresses, my express and my network have the same passord to access them. just trying to think of other deatails.

Hardware :: Just Plug An Airport Express Into Ethernet Point - Second Wifi On Home Network

May 19, 2010

Our wireless router (some standard linksys one) is downstairs. Wireless is mostly used down there so need strongest signal. Then it's plugged into an ethernet point, which goes up to the loft in a box, where it feeds into a 16-port switch, then back out to ethernet points in each room of the house. (recently renovated the house and ran Cat-5e everywhere.)Currently I have to connect via the ethernet point in my room with a network cable as I can't pick up the wireless signal. Which sucks a bit, being tied down when on a macbook pro.Could I just plug an Airport Express into the ethernet point in my room and set it up as a second wireless point, which I can use in my room? Or is that not what it's for?

OS X :: WiFi Drops If Overloaded - Turn Airport Off & On To Restart Connection?

Jul 10, 2010

I used to have a problem with my late-2006 13" white MacBook where, if I opened up a bunch of Safari tabs/windows at a time, or a bunch too quickly, or was downloading podcasts with iTunes and opened up another internet-dependent app?my wireless connection would drop. I would still see the full signal strength in the menu bar (all four "bars" of that rounded signal monitor), but the Up and Down activity would drop to 0.

The only way to re-start the connection was to click on the signal monitor, select Turn Airport Off, and then just select Turn Airport (back) On. Only then, would the connection come back on. This was a pain, especially if I was in the middle of a big download, as I usually had to restart the whole download..................

I've attached two images - on the right is what happens when it loses connection and then simply won't find anything.
