OS X :: Wireless Connection Keeps Dropping

Nov 27, 2009

I just bought a MBP 13 inch in August '09 and Ive been experiencing consistent dropped internet connections wherever I go. I'm in college right now, and I have wireless internet at my dorm and my connection keeps dropping randomly and the only way I can reconnect is by turning on and off Airport. I just went home today and Im experiencing the same scenario with my Home Wireless Network connection. Anyone know whats going on or how I can fix this?

OS X :: Wireless Connection Keeps Dropping On IMac C2D?

Jan 24, 2007

My iMac has been connected wirelessly to my D-Link DI-604 802.11g router for near 4 months now.

About 3 days ago, the iMac started to exhibit strange problems.

Every 3-4 minutes, the connection drops.

The airport icon at the top shows full bars (and the router is about 2 feet from the iMac) but the internet does not work anymore.

Also, if I deconnect and try to reconnect, at first it gives me an error ("there was an error connecting to network XXX"), then my network disappears from the list for 1-2minutes and then I can connect.

I think it has to do with an authentication problem but the password is correct etc.

I don't know what may cause this.

My PC with a wireless card is unaffected.

It seems to be a software problem with my iMac.

OS X :: Macbook Pro Keeps Dropping Wireless Connection???

Aug 27, 2009

Is there something wrong with my computer?? Some special update that I don't know about?? this is so annoying!! I'm running Leopard 10.5.8 but this happened also on 10.5.7 and I am using an early macbook pro model - about 3 years old. I will be connected to the wireless fine all day then like right now it drops the signal and i have to hook my computer up to an ethernet cable. I can restart modem, router, and computer but I haven't found a solution except to try again in a couple of hours and it will work fine. I know it's a problem with the computer itself and my apple care just expired so i hope it's not a hardware issue. Anyone know anything? I've tried changing the password protection on the router but still same result. Just pissed off that my $3000 computer can't hold a wireless signal.

After upgrading to Leopard my Mac Book Pro continuously drops the connection to our wireless connection. After many attempts the only method I found to correct the situation is to perform a restart. Before the OS upgrade the wireless connection worked perfectly.

I am connecting through a Linksys router with a Time Warner cable connection.

OS X :: Wireless Connection Dropping At Random Times?

Dec 2, 2008

I'm using a Macbook 13" and am running 10.4.11.

So the problem that I'm having is that at random times I lose connection. At the same time the PC-s that are connected to the same network have connection, plus the ISP said that everything seems to be fine on their side. So there seems to be an issue with the WiFi on the MB. It just loses the connection and can't find it for about a minute and some times it takes about 5 minutes for it to reconnect to the network. And the problem isn't limited to only one network, but actually happens in different networks. It started as a minor inconvenience, but now it's starting to really bug me. And it seems that I'm not even making it up: [URL]

OS X :: Macbook Having Kernel Panics And Dropping Wireless Connection?

Sep 4, 2009

I'm running OS X version 10.4.11 (Tiger). It's a 13" Macbook, two years old, from August 2007. I've recently been having a bunch of problems with it.

First, it drops its wireless connection a lot. Most of the time this happens while I'm playing World of Warcraft, but I've seen it happen even when I'm not. Everyone else connected to the wireless will have absolutely no problem with it, but my Airport icon in the upper righthand corner of my screen will go grey and then connect again, then go grey, connect, etc. I also experience a lot of latency in my connection when others don't (example with WoW... someone else will have 98ms latency, and mine will shoot up to 2500ms or so). Most of the time when this happens my entire computer seizes up. My game skips, my iTunes skips, my mouse skips or won't even move, I can't type or click, etc. Additionally, I've had it happen even when I'm connected to the internet with an ethernet cable with Airport turned off, and my internet connection will die completely until I restart my computer.

I've had problems with this computer in the past as well. About two months after I bought it, it wouldn't boot up and I had to reinstall the operating system. Then a year after I bought it, my motherboard crashed, and they couldn't really tell me why it might've happened.

Second, I've had two kernel panics in the past two months. The first one was July 18th, 2009, and the second one happened just about half an hour ago today (Sept 4th). The panic.log is as follows (both dates are included):

MacBook Pro :: Poor Wireless Reception - Connection Dropping

Jan 1, 2010

Two days ago I got a 'new' refurbished 13" MBP from Apple to replace my aging 2006 MB. It's ok, but not quite as nice as I expected. One major thing I've noticed is that the wireless reception is much worse than my old MacBook. They're both connected to a Netgear WGR614 v9, but the MB is getting about 2/4 bars, while the MBP is constantly dropping the connection. In fact, right now I have the MB booted in Win7 and it's running Connectify, in order to share the connection with the MBP. I'm downloading the latest software updates right now, and then I'll see if any firmware is available, but I doubt that will make much of a difference. Is this because the new MBP is made from aluminum?

MacBook Pro :: Wireless Connection Dropping On Macbook Pro

Apr 8, 2010

im fairly new to macs and im loving my macbook pro i got a few months ago. Only issue that's been happening is the wireless connection seems to be dropping every once in a while. Its gotten to the point where its pretty annoying. I dont have any issues with my buffalo routerand im not far from it as well. Im running snow leopard 10.6.3. I will be in the middle of working so its not like the laptop is in sleep mode where i know the wireless will drop which is understandable. If you need any more inf please ask, i havent had issues with my old dell and the same wireless router. Oh, after the connection drops, it will scan and find it(the router), then ask me to put my password in again, thats about it.

OS X :: Airport Connection Keeps Dropping Connection To Computer

Jul 29, 2010

Two computers in the house MacBook and iMac, running on an Airport Extreme network, which includes an Airport Express plugged into the stereo.

A brief power outage the other night (perhaps unrelated), and in the morning, the network was wonky: the iMac was only getting two or three bars, streaming radio to the Express kept flickering on and off. When that happens, rebooting the Airport base station, the router, and the Express usually takes care of it.

Since the reboot, the iMac hasn't been able to keep a connection to the network, and often can't find it. It may start off, but then loses the connection and then times out trying to reconnect. Or the network doesn't even appear in the list. Read that launching Network and running Diagnostic will fix problems and it sometimes does, but never for long.

All this time except for one brief bit where it suffered the same problem the MacBook has had no problem connecting to the network and the Internet.

Have rebooted everything multiple times in various orders, run Disk Utility, and even gone ahead and upgraded the iMac to Snow Leopard (laptop was recently upgraded).

OS X :: Internet Connection Keeps Dropping Connection?

Aug 12, 2009

I know there are a lot of similar threads all around different forums, but nothing really helped and I was hoping some of you smart ladies/guys can help solve this issue once and for all.

Here's the deal:

My main desktop computer (Compaq windows XP computer) is set-up upstairs where the cable router and linksys wireless router are placed (which is right next to the desktop on the desk). My Macbook (running Tiger and is 3 years old) and iMac (running Leopard and is not even 1 year old yet) are set-up downstairs in my new office. This room is in the basement, however the room is almost directly above the main office where the wired desktop computer resides.

Prior to setting up my office downstairs, my sister lived with my family in the basement and had her windows Vista laptop set-up without any internet connection issues. Her internet never dropped on her laptop, and neither did the connection on her wireless all-in-one printer/scanner/copier. Cell phone reception/internet connection in the basement is also great.

When I set up my iMac and Macbook however a few weeks ago, the internet keeps dropping connection! I do not understand this when my sister had no problems at all with her laptop getting internet connection, when she was living with us. The internet connection will stay good for either 10-30 minutes and then drop, or it could be good for up to an hour and then drop.

OS X :: MacBook Airport Keeps Dropping Connection?

Feb 20, 2008

I have had my MacBook sense Oct. 2006 and not until recently had any problems with the airport. Currently it will connect to any network as per usual and then with out notice just cut out for a few seconds and then come back on.

This isn't a huge pain if Im just browsing the net but if I am trying to hold a conversation using skype, IM, or downloading things it can get very very annoying. It cuts out about every 2 mins. It is not a problem with weak signal because when it is on it is showing full bars.

I have tried it under both my home network and my university network both resulting in the same thing. Is this a hardware issue (crossing fingers it isn't!)? Anybody having similar problems?

Hardware :: Dropping Wifi Connection - App?

Apr 11, 2009

I work for a business that sells a lot of computers, Macs specifically. We've got a wi-fi network in our building; however, the network constantly drops out. Despite our pleas to IT, they will not fix the issue. Our demo computers that customers can play with and consider purchasing often lose Internet access because of this. Whenever this happens, I have to manually turn the Airport off and then back on again, which will get it to reconnect. Does anybody know of a way to have the computer automatically do this every so often?

IMac :: Bluetooth Dropping Connection While Asleep

Jan 7, 2011

Recently, I've been having an issue where neither my Apple bluetooth Keyboard or Magic Trackpad pair automatically with the iMac at my password login screen. This forces me to hold down the power button and force a restart of the machine. Both accessories have plenty of battery power and pair fine after restarting. In a related problem, sometimes neither accessory will wake the iMac from sleep and I suspect it's because the bluetooth is dropping connection while asleep, thus making it impossible to wake up the iMac. Corrupt bluetooth .plist file? Or, could there be a problem with the iMac's built in bluetooth?

I just purchased a new iMac 24" its beautiful. I hooked it up and it connected to my router without any real issues but it keeps dropping the connection at random, and its really getting irritating. Do i have a defective model? should i take it back?

So to sum it up, brand new iMac with Leopard installed, AirPort initially connects to my home network, and everything seems fine, but the connection drops at random, then comes back, VERY UNSTABLE. im ready to return the damn thing.

oh, both my pc's connect without any issues, also it seems like the network connection stays, just the internet goes away and in safari it says your computer isnt connected to the internet, but its connected to the network.

OS X :: Airport Express / IMac G4 Dropping Connection?

Oct 9, 2009

I recently got an iMac G4. It had no wireless, and since that's what I use I bought the (correct) Airport Express Card. I installed it without a hitch, and it seemed to be working fine, until I reinstalled Leopard. Now every 2-3 minutes Airport will simply drop the connection. I have no idea why. I have updated all the firmware, but it continues to drop the connection.

I should also note that I'm on a MacBook right now that hasn't dropped the connection to the same wireless network.

No luck. I am using an ATT 2Wire wireless router that's just over a year old but I haven't experienced the connection drop problem with an older Macbook (about 4 years old) that I also own.

All other 5 Macs (Snow Lep/Lep/Tiger) and several PC's on network have no problem. Have set iMac's internet connections to static/manual ip. Worked for a few days, then back to dropping. This is obviously an OS issue.

Intel Mac :: Dropping Internet Connection Via Airport

Mar 19, 2012

Since last week my iMac (Early 2009, OS 10.7.3) has been dropping its connection to the Internet. I'm using a router connected to an Airport Extreme and connect to it via WiFi. I tried connecting via Ethernet cable from modem to iMac but it would drop the connection entirely, which is why I had been connecting via WiFi. I have no problem with my other devices (iPad, iPhone and MacBook, this one with 10.7.2 installed), they connect immediately to the Internet and all, even the iMac, are able to connect to each other.

I already tried restaring the Airport Extreme, zapped the PRAM, reset the SMC, repaired permissions, disconnected the router and Airport from the power source and it still won't connect. Last time this happened, my iMac went to sleep and dropped the Internet connection after waking. I put it back to sleep and woke it using the power button as someone had suggested in another post, that helped and the connection was reestablished. This morning the iMac it was working fine, did not go to sleep at any time and suddenly dropped the connection, which I haven't been able to restore since.

MacBook :: Internet Connection Dropping Every So Often (15 Minutes)

Jun 28, 2014

I'm having a problem maintaining my internet connection. Every so often (~15mins) my computer loses its connection without warning. I have an old MacBook running OS X 10.6.8.

The problem started yesterday when I lost connection. Going into network diagnostics everything was green as far as ISP - Internet and Server were the only ones failing. Restarting the router/laptop did nothing, and no-one else using the router had any connection problems. Eventually, the problem was "solved" by renewing the DHCP Lease, except that now the connection drops. It can be restored by going through the Diagnostics and is usually fixed when I reselect my network, whereupon it works fine for a while before being lost, which I usually discover when trying to load a page.

I have tried restarting the router and laptop, I have tried renewing the DHCP Lease again. Once again I'm the only one on the router experiencing connection issues.

MacBook :: Why Does Wireless Keep Dropping

Aug 8, 2008

Often times, the signal gets weak.... and then dies. I know its not my router cause my iPod touch is able to connect to it fine. And then it took me 20-30mins to reconnect. At some points, it see the router, but then says "connection timeout" or it just doesn't connect and then my router disappears.

Hardware :: IMac Dropping WiFi Active Connection

Jul 31, 2010

My Linksys WRT610N with the latest firmware worked fantastically on multiple Windows 7-based ThinkPad. However, three (3) different iMac's have had the very same problem of dropping the connection and of my having to powercycle both my cable modem and the W610 router for it to work again at all! Once it drops the active connection, that's it. I have tried a few different settings and nothing has made a difference.

Can you maybe help point me in the right direction or should I just ditch it for an AirPort Extreme or Time Capsule? One additional point: It works worst in the 5GHz frequency band, even though there are none in my neighborhood, and if there are, they have their SSID's (network name) hidden. The 2.4GHz band is extremely crowded where I am which makes it difficult to enjoy my WiFi connection.

OS X :: Won't Work / Dropping Connection To Active Directory Upon Restart

Mar 12, 2008

Every time the computer is restarted, the machine permanently loses its connection to the domain. After the initial binding, the Directory Utility light was green and it told me the computer had connected to the server as expected. However, after restarting, the light turns red and Directory Utility tells me that the server is not responding and no domain users can login. Nothing fixes it except for a rather disruptive and time-consuming unbinding and rebinding to the domain.

Obviously "don't restart the computer" will only work for so long, and already the user has restarted their computer once "out of habit" (which hopefully we will be able to break, lol), but still, I'm looking for a good way to fix this problem permanently.
