my computer likes to freeze during startup (at the apple logo, the loading wheel sometimes stops without warning). Secondly, when I tried to use my DVD drive today, at least one DVD and one CD were ejected. The one CD I tried made a clicking sound prior to ejecting. The 2nd DVD took a long time to load, and the 3rd one loaded without fail. Could this issue be related to the DVDs specifically, or is that the drive beginning to fail? I tried running the Apple Hardware Test while I was at home, but it stated that everything worked fine…I can diagnose my computer before I go to the genius bar, I just don’t want to have my laptop overheat [Emeryville and Berkeley never have availability anymore, so, when I get home for break, I’m going to take it to a store with availability..The last laptop I had (mid 2004 iBook) had a fan issue, which causes it to overheat, and shutdown unexpectedly. It still barely even works, but something caused some major screen damage to it as well.

Well, here is my situation. About a few months ago my computer was steadily starting to slow down and freeze everyone once in awhile, then it started to get worse and finally I couldn't even get past the blue loading screen during startup. I figured this was due to some movies I downloaded and even though it is rare I may have got a virus. So I reformatted and lost all my data. The computer worked for a few months until this past week when I was in the hospital of all times to start acting up again. However, this time I barely had anything on it and it started to do the same thing again but much quicker though the process. Within two days I couldn't get past the blue loading screen.
I called apple, and they had me go through a bunch of restarts and all there trouble shooting processes. The computers hardware checked out perfect and we tried to delete some files to correct a software problem, but that didn't work either. So, his next option was to have me completely reformat once again to fix the problem. So, I reformatted once again, lost all my data once again and now it is doing it again the very next day.The MacBook is less than a year old and I purchased AppleCare with it. However, I was wondering since they couldn't figure out what was wrong with it what are they going to do since they don't know what is wrong?
If they give me a refurbished one, that would most likely mean that Im getting an older one because I purchases this laptop in September last year right before the new models came out so this is one of the very last models that were shipped. Do you think that they might give me a new model if I ask? I don't want to deal with a refurbished model when I spent this kind of money and on top of that bought AppleCare for another $350.
I recently downloaded a firmware update from Apple both as a stand-alone software and using software update but everytime I restart, my computer makes one loud beeping sound and tries to boot three or four times unsuccessfully and maybe on the fifth or fourth, it finally comes on. When I go through software update after this, it still shows the same firmware and same version of it as an update I haven't downloaded. And another thing it freezes a lot since I downloaded this firmware update. This is how it shows on software update; Macbook Pro EFI Firmware Update version 2.7 size: 4.1 MB.

My PowerBook 17 has frozen after installing the Latest Leopard Update. I'm stuck on the Apple Logo Screen with the Spinning BeachBall after the Restart. It's been a few Hours now. I've never had a problem with my Pwrbook Before this in Four Years!!
View 1 Replies View RelatedOn my late 2011 imac 21.5" I have been getting a consistent problem since the last OS update. After the screensaver comes on, or, if left to sleep by it's own devices, either my screensaver freezes or the gray screen won't recover from sleep. If I move the cursor with the trackpad it clears the gray screen where the cursor moves around. I can usually clear enough that I can hit the login button and log in after pushing the power button. This is a new phenomenon since the latest OS update.Â

It's avihappy again and I have another survey for you all. As you can see, there is now an iMac 4850 EFI firmware update available via software update. So can you: Find a test that will cause the iMac to freeze up. Do the update. (make sure you actually run the firmware updater tool, it may not run automatically when you install the update from Software Update.) Switch to WiFi. Do the test again. See if the iMac freezes!
View 24 Replies View RelatedI updated a few days ago, and have been getting this issue ever since. After I put my computer to sleep, it will not wake. The second monitor (as main monitor) shows the state i left it in, but my laptop screen is blank, and everything is frozen... My keyboard still functions, kind-of (because caps lock will turn on and off) but i have no control. The only way to fix this has been to hold the power button, and force a shutdown. I have never had this issue before now... And there is no resolution to this issue that I can find..My second monitor is an HP w2207, and is connected via DVI. I do have an external HDD connected and on at all times: it starts up after sleep like normal. It is an iomega 2TB eGO, firewire hdd.

It seems that prior updates worked. However, when I update to 10.6.8 my system will freeze. The only that that moves is my cursor.I can be on the web, scrolling. It will happem when new email is being down loaded. I can be working on th PC side and will experence it. I ran the "Disk" repair. But even after the run is done the system will work for a short while and the freeze. Now I can reinstall 10.5 "Snow Lepoard" and not update to the latest "Package" update and all works well. So the main question is "What gives?". Its very troublesome. Is there any soulition to this?

Currently using OS X Lion, started the latest software update and computer crashed during the update. I forced the computer to turn off, but when I turn it on, it returns to the same "crashed" condition (grey screen with an apple logo in the center, plus the time symbol spinning).

The last two Apple software updates seemed to have screwed up my computer. After downloading and installing the last one (which included an update to iTunes), I could not turn on iTunes - it just made my computer freeze up.I could not shut it down the regular way.So I pressed the power button for 5 seconds, which turned the computer off finally. Then let it sit for 30 seconds. And when I went to turn it on - the computer got to the gray screen and just hung there.I finally had to press the power button for 5 seconds to shut it down so I could hook up my external hard drives and boot from there.Tried to see if I could boot from the internal HD it froze again. Tried to run Disk Utility, which recongized the hard drive under the name I gave it and it was mounted. After running Disk Utility, the internal drive is no longer showing up on my desktop. It does show up in Disk Utility and in Drive Genius but will not mount.I should also mention that my keyboard and trackpad stopped working after the last update.I have been using an auxiliary keyboard and trackball for years, and have no problem with them now.

In the last two years when I have attempted to update my security on my Macbook Pro (Tiger OS) it has either not completed the download or frozen my computer. I've had to back up and erase my hard drive twice and reload everything. Is there some sort of bug in this update? I want to update to snow leopard but when I've tried with the upgrade disk it tells me that Snow Leopard will not install on my OS. Will the security update facilitate that?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhenever I try to install my software updates manually, I get the screen saying I must restart my computer after the updates are installed. However, when I click on 'Install and Restart' the computer immediately restarts without installing any of the updates. This has happened repeatedly.

I recently attempted to install the most recent firmware and security updates for mac os x 10.5.8 on my macbook pro 17 inch (purchased about 14 months ago). Computer asked me to reboot, i did, it then gave me instructions for firmware updates.
The screen went dark, and it did its thing, and I returned 10 minutes later. The computer had not rebooted.I pressed the startup key and it gave a long beep. Screen remained dark. Some minutes later it ran the boot cycle, but booted into windows (i have dual boot set up). I can only get into windows now.
I'm trying to update my Macbook Pro to the new 10.7.4 I have downloaded the update twice (no interruptions during download) and when i click to restart the computer to install the update, the update dosent install. I keep getting an error message saying the download is corrupted, when the update tries to unpack to install. Â

just ran a recent update for my macbook pro/mid 2010, and the computer just woke up with a plain blue screen & spinning beach ball - I had to do a hard shut down.I am also having the problem of having my screen going black for a couple of seconds, I read up on it in Support. But I was wondering if there is something else going on.

View 7 Replies View RelatedEvery time I try to install the latest version of leopard when the computer restarts it's self and it starts to "Configure installation", it freezes. I really don't think it should take OVER 12 hours to STILL be "Configuring". I called Apple, and the representative told me that I might need to install safari, but, it won't let me. Heh, I don't know what the problem is. I have an iMac G5 with 57.21 GB on my it. Does anyone know of any solution for this issue?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been experiencing an issue with locking my computer screen ever since updating to 10.6.3. Normally, when I choose to lock my screen through the Keychain Access menu bar item, the password prompt will be displayed over a black background. However, since the 10.6.3 update, sometimes when I choose to lock the screen, the password prompt will simply be displayed over my actual desktop, and the open windows, menu bar, and the dock all remain visible. I updated to 10.6.3 using the combo update package, and I have tried repairing permissions and resetting the PRAM and SMC to no avail.
Console displays this error message:
