MacBook :: Using Audio - Speakers Don't Work Headphone/external Does

Jan 18, 2010

The audio on my macbook suddenly stopped working. When I click on the audio adjuster, it won't even let me change the level (the little circle is white now, not blue).

But when I plug in headphones or an external speaker, everything works fine. I can once again adjust the audio and get sound

There was a red light eminating from the audio out jack for a while (last couple of days) but today, there is no longer a red light. Still no audio from the speakers.

OS X :: Audio Splitter(speakers And Headphone) With Independent Volume Controls?

Apr 8, 2008

I want to connect speakers and a headphone to my Imac at the same time.Since there is only one audio output in the imac, I need a audio splitter and I think I need a headphone splitter then? Now the problem is there is no volume control on my headphone and I want it at a different volume then my speakers, otherwise when I turn my speakers on and the headphones are still connected and I turn volume up loud it will ruin my headphone ( and I don't want my software volume almost down and my speaker control way up)Now I found this headphone splitter, but my question is, will the sound quality still be the same because I need the same sound quality.
I know it's a difficult story,

OS X :: Output Audio To Headphone Jack ITunes & Internal Speakers?

Dec 15, 2009

I feel like I once had a PrefPane for this problem but just am having a hard time searching for it. Currently I have my heaphones jack Line-In routed to my AV Receiver for iTunes music in my room, but whenever I am YouTubing or other stuff while listening to music the System Sounds come out of my Loudspeakers too. I am interested in routing only the iTunes audio through the headphone jack, and everything else to run through my iMac's internal speakers (2007 iMac AL).I saw the SoundFlower thing out there but didn't think that was the ticket

MacBook Pro :: Damaged Audio Jack - Will Usb Speakers Work

Jun 24, 2010

I have a Macbook Pro and something happened to the audio jack recently. Not sure what but I have a 3 year old and pc husband at home. Basically the inside of the jack went from being an inny - where you can plug in an audio plug, to an outie - where you can only insert about half of your plug and it won't go in any further. When I go into Sound settings - Output it says the selected device has no controls, and the speaker icon on my status bar is greyed out. I brought it in and they said they would need to replace the logic board in order to fix the jack - $1,000.... yikes.

So long story short I am wondering if it is just the audio jack then could I buy usb speakers and use those instead? Any work around at all? I wish there were a way to just tell the computer to ignore anything the audio jack was telling it, but I was told that is not an option either.

MacBook Pro :: External Speakers Not Working - Intermittent Audio

May 20, 2012

I have owned my MacBook Pro since June 2010, and have always used a pair of independently powered (via adapter) external Dell speakers for audio output. Since upgrading to Lion about 1 month ago, I was having intermittent audio issues, which were resolved by re-starting my computer (not ideal but it worked). Today, the speakers just stopped working. The internal speakers work, but when I plug the externals into the headphone port, they don't produce sound. Earbuds in the same port also don't work (but the earbuds are good). The external speakers are being recognized by the sound panel in system preferences.

OS X :: How To Get Audio On External Speakers

Aug 28, 2010

I had audio coming out my external speakers.

Then I fiddled with both Soundflower and Audacity for some audio recording.

I have since then uninstalled both but I can't for the life of me figure out how to get audio coming out my external speakers again.

Everything is coming thru my imac speakers.

Apple>Sys Pref> Sound> give me no options to direct audio to external speakers.

MacBook Pro :: No Audio Out From Speakers / Not Showing Internal Speakers

Mar 19, 2008

MacBook Pro 2.16
10.4.11

Situation: no sound out from speakers in admin and user account and newly created account. Headphones work, startup chimes work on speakers.

Go to Sound in Preferences and only shows Digital Out for output. Should show Internal Speakers. Ran Diskwarrior and Applejack and zapped pram. Took mac apart and confirmed speakers wired correctly which is verified by the start up chimes being audible on the internal speakers. tested all accounts and created new account all with the same results. Did search of Google and MacRumor. Found one unaswered post indicating same problem. Had same problem with another macbook pro, ran same steps, take apart, confirm wiring setup, Diskwarriored, applejacked and zapped pram and it fixed the problem. I'm not sure what else to try. Did check Audio Midi Setup util and it also did not see the internal speakers.

Mar 15, 2010

I have a Macbook Pro 13" unibody I purchased in June 2009. Just recently, the headphone jack stopped working. I tested many different headphones and speakers, and none of them work. I am suspecting a hardware issue, because when I plug it in, i head the static while it is being plugged in. However it does not switch the audio. The only thing is, if it was a hardware problem, wouldn't it be stuck in the headphone mode because the switcher is stuck?

IMac :: High-pitched Frequency With External Speakers / Connected Via Firewire Audio Interface

Apr 14, 2004

I hope I'm not double posting. Have any of the other new iMac owners experienced weird frequencies coming from external speakers that are connected to their iMacs?

For example: I have a set of studio monitors that are hooked up to my iMac using a firewire audio interface. Whenever I'm copying data I get an extremely high-pitched frequency coming from my speakers that sounds like my hard drive spinning. Also, whenever I'm scrolling or moving the magic mouse I get a loud buzzing coming from the speakers (especially when scrolling). None of this stuff happened with my previous 20" iMac C2D. I have experienced this issue with all three of the 27" iMacs that I have gone through thus far (due to the yellow tint issue). Does this sound like something I'm just going to have to live with. All of these high pitched frequencies are driving me batty!

OS X :: External Speakers Won't Work After Installing Adobe Flash Player?

Jun 10, 2009

I have had a MacMini for about 2 months now, and use brand new Creative brand speakers to plug into it. Everything has worked fine, but this morning as I went onto a band's MySpace page I was informed that the music could not be played without installing a newer version of Adobe Flash Player. So I clicked the link and went through the installation and sure enough now the MySpace music player came up. Unfortunately, I noticed there was no sound coming out of my speakers. First, I checked each plug, but still no sound. Second, I reinstalled Adobe Flash Player for Mac (from the Adobe website), but it still didn't work. Third, I took the audio plug connecting my speakers and MacMini out and noticed that the music was playing through my MacMini, but when I plugged it back in I noticed that it wasn't coming through my external speakers. Dumbfounded, I plugged my iPod in through the Aux In on my speakers and noticed it worked perfectly fine. Finally, I switched audio cables connecting my MacMini and my Creative brand speakers and it still didn't work! What is going on here?

MacBook :: Audio Output - Headphone Jack

Jul 9, 2009

I was using my 13" White Macbook (Spring 07) all day today, listening to music on headphones while working. I brought my computer over to a friend's house and attempting to line out some audio from Garage Band to speakers through the headphone jack and suddenly all audio began to have skips & spaces every second or so. I can still the hear songs but they are constantly interrupted. I tried Itunes & audio from the internet, and two different pairs of headphones I know work. Same problem every time. The strange thing is that the audio works perfectly out of the internal speakers. Has anyone had this same problem? I haven't seen anything on the web that was similar. I tried the Q-Tip/Toothpick trick suggested on a bunch of other threads. But I don't think it's an issue of the computer not adjusting to the headphone setting. Also tried to resetting the battery, but that didn't work either.

MacBook :: Headphone With Mic Not Working In Audio Input

Mar 23, 2012

This headphone/headset that is equipped with a mic does not work properly when I connect it to the audio input opening. The headphone/headset is only equipped with one plug (is this the proper term?).

When I adjust the audio setting (apple icon--> System Preferences --> Sound --> select "Input" tab --> highlight " Line in; Audio line-in port") I can only hear sounds through the headphone but the mic portion does not pic up. If I hit the mic portion I see the bars move, that would indicate some sound being picked up. However, when I try to use the mic, through Mac Office Powerpoint 2010, the sound (if received through the mic) does not pick up.

Why is this happening? Do I need some extra external component for the microphone part of the headset to work or do something extra in the System Preference area?

MacBook Pro :: No Sound Out Of MacBook Speakers & Red LED In Headphone Jack?

I've called Tech Support and they haven't been able to help me. My next option is sending my laptop back in to them for service. I'd like to see if there if there is somebody out there that has had this same issue before I lose the laptop for atleast a week.
