MacBook Air :: Way To Upgrade CPU From 4gb RAM?
Nov 26, 2010
I m about to order an Macbook Air and after reading through many posts here i decided to order the max out RAM as it could be needed in the futur for new software updates. But is it really necessary to max out the cpu also? It s not about the 100 euro more it s more about that here in France in the Apple stores they don t have the once with max out cpu in stock but they do have some with 4 GB RAM.
without any problem. But will this also apply to the apps like MS Office ?

Looking at getting a 13" MPB to replace my aging Macbook. I am aware of the imminent arrival of the next gen next year, but still seriously considering getting a current gen.
Anyway, I am debating between getting the 2.66GHz version with 4GB RAM and the 2.4GHz version with 8GB RAM. I already have a 500GB 7200rpm HDD which I will transplant into it. Some stage in the next year or so I will look into getting an SSD and optibay for it.
I know that if I get the faster processor I can upgrade the RAM at a later date, but is the faster processor worth the money, or would I be better spending on RAM?

I am kicking around between upgrading video card in my 1st gen Mac Pro (2 x 2.66 dual core, 8gb ram) from 7300 Gt to ati 4870 vs. upgrading to a newer system altogether...
Newer MP has 2 x 2.66 quad cores, 12 gb ram with the 4870 card.) What kind of improved performance might I really expect or even notice when using photoshop, light video editing, 3d graphics.
I have not included costs because I want to focus on the performance boosts sans cost for the purpose of this discussion.

Maybe this isn't the correct forum...I'm a newbie. Today, after checking and installing upgrades to my iMac OS X, I'm seeing a pop-up saying 'my existing messages need to be upgraded the first time I use Mail again." I'm not sure what it intends to do to my Mail messages and I'm slightly fearful because many of them are Outlook Express messages that were transferred from my old PC. Anyone gone ahead and done this 'mail upgrade' yet? and did you have any issues?

I went to BB and bought the upgrade for my MBP running Leopard but I decided I would try to install it on my Tiger running iMac almost possitive it would not work. It however worked and even installed faster (1/3 the time) of my MBP with more Ram and better processor. So it is definitely done

I am curious about the system requirement of Snow Leopard. Since the performance and speed are better on SL, I think Snow Leopard will consume a little bit more resource of our macs., although I know Snow Leopard is just only the refinement of the software.
So, my question is that WILL YOU UPGRADE YOUR RAM OF YOUR MAC?

I have a 2.66GHz Mac Pro (4-core) with 8GB RAM.
I also have a 2.80GHz MacBook Pro (mid-2009) with 4GB RAM.
My main programs are Flash, Dreamweaver, and Photoshop. I use these on both Macs.
I do a small amount of AfterEffects, UltraFractal, Bryce 6, and Cinema4D, but nothing *big*. I typically use these on the Mac Pro only.
I spend most of my time on the Mac Pro.

I have a Mid 2009 Model Macbook Pro 17" with currently 4 Gigs of ram. I contacted Apple and to upgrade to 8 Gigs of ram from them would cost me $600.
( Type of Ram is Apple Memory Module 8GB 1066MHz DDR3 (PC3-8500) - 2x4GB SO-DIMMs )
That is a ton! I was shocked.
I looked at newegg.com and it looks to be around 250 bucks to upgrade and buy ram from there.
So I have a quick couple of questions.
1. What brand of Ram do you think is the best?
2. Do you guys know of any other places to buy it from for less?
3. Will this void my Applecare warranty?
I looked up how to switch it and that seems quite simple so no help needed there.

Has anyone attempted to upgrade the ram or CPU? You can do it with a reballing station and I am tempted to try it when my air arrives. What kind of memory chips is the air using?

I'm about to order a macbook air 11.6, and I'm not sure if I should upgrade the RAM. I will use the MBA when studying, for documents, music, watching movies and probably some simple photo / sound editing. I mostly use an external hard drive for storage.
2GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM / 4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM ?

I just inherited a seldom used 13" MacBook Pro. It has a cycle count of 20. Unfortunately, it was purchased on January 30th. It has 2+ years of Apple Care left. Unfortunately, its a base model. 2.26ghz, 2gig RAM, 160gb 5400 HD. But it's in amazing condition. I figure I can sell it on eBay for 800. What's a better option. Getting a new one (applying the money from the sale) with 2.66ghz, 4gig RAM, and a larger HD or upgrading the current to a SSD and 4GB RAM. Essentially, will the solid state be a better performance booster than the increase in processor speed? It will save me the hassle of selling the current laptop (eBay is annoying). Plus, I can do the upgrades myself.

My mom has a MacBook Core Duo (the first Intel MacBook). Currently, the OS is Tiger and her internal hard drive is completely full.
So, I bought her a new internal hard drive and Leopard. How do I upgrade her computer?
Do I first install the new internal hard drive and then boot the computer with the Leopard install disk? I want to start from scratch (clean install).

I have a 2009 15" 2.8 Macbook Pro with 4GB of RAM. I shoot photography for a living, mostly relying on Photoshop and Aperture for all of my work.
I use my laptop alongside a PC desktop with an i7 and 8GB RAM. I am thinking of going completely mobile and am going to sell my PC desktop for $1000 so I have $1000 to spend on new stuff.
Should I sell my 15" laptop and upgrade to an 15" i7 with 4GB RAM or should I purchase an 8GB kit of RAM for my laptop right now and hold off on the i7 upgrade?
Will RAM in the 2009 macbook pro work in the new 2010 macbook pros, should I upgrade to the i7 model in the future?

I have a 13" 2.26GHz MacBook Pro with 2GB of ram. I run a lot of graphic-intense programs such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Painter, Premier, Final Cut and some audio programs such as Reason and ProTools.
Searching around on the net I've found a lot of people saying that the MacBook Pro does not really take advantage of the 8GB and that most people need no more than 4GB.
So, the question is, has anyone upgraded their MacBookPro to 8GB and if so, did you notice a significant increase in speed or do you feel that 4GB would be fine?

I bought my Mac book Pro 5 years ago and it's running OS 10.4.11. I'm needing to upgrade the Operating System to handle some new programs that I just got for it that require a minimum of 10.5.2 Operating System.
Spending $150-$200 for the brand new Snow Leopard is completely out of my budget right now.

upgrading the hard drive on the MacBook Pro and I have been reading them for days now, but I couldn’t find one that will go over the information I am looking for. Anyway. I am more than ready to upgrade the HD on my MBP and I need someone to validate if I have all the necessary information so I can start getting things ready. First, the details of my MBP:
15” – 2.53 GHz Intel Core i5
4 GB (2X2) DDR3 SDRAM
500 GB Serial ATA drive @ 7200
Mid 2010 (Shipped in Oct 30 2010)
[URL]
Is it compatible with my MBP? I noticed that the RPM is lower @ 5200 than the one I have now. Is that something to be concerned about? The reason I need to upgrade is due to the media I have (Music, Movies and TV Shows), my collection keeps growing and growing! I also need ideas in terms of making an exact copy of my existing HD with OS X Lion to the new 1 TB HD. I’ve heard of getting an enclosure and some software to make this clone.
Info:
MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3), iMac and iPhone - Lion OS
