View 18 RepliesWhen I boot up my MacBook Pro (Unibody 17" 2011 model), it maks the CD noise, chimes the apple chime, then shows a grey/white screen. normally, this would progress to a grey screen with the apple logo on it, followed by the login screen, however in my case, the computer seems to just shut down. the fans keep running, so i know it isn't powering down completely. i can't change the volume/etc. after the computer has done this, so i'm assuming it isn't a display issue (also the display flashes white). does anybody know what this sequence of events is a symptom of? i'd really like to get my computer working again.

I have a PowerBook G4 with a Matshita DVD-R UJ-825 drive. When I insert a Memorex ultraspeed CD-RW (24x, 700 mb, 80 ming), the computer spits it out after a few seconds. Any way to resolve this? I haven't tried using other types of CD-RWs and have used Memorex CD-Rs in the past with no problems.

I have a MacBook and lately, every time I insert a blank disc, it spits the disc out. I can hear the drive working for a couple of seconds then the disc comes out. The same thing happens when I insert burned disc. I didn't encounter any problem whenever I insert original discs (audio or films). I need to burn a lot of files.

I've been using the same blanc discs but the problem only came 2 weeks back. Before I can use -/+ r/rw disc with no problems at all. I doubt that it has to do with the discs type
I created a DVD+R disc on my new Mini that has some Mac apps. Now that my new iMac is here, I am trying to read the disc on my iMac but the iMac just spits it back out. It never shows up on the desktop. Other discs such as the reload discs work. I can put it in the Mini again and it shows up. Anyone seen this and know how to share discs between the Mini and the iMac?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've never had this happen, but I have this DVD of a tv-show in a series of 10 DVD's, it's the same region and everything as the others and I put it in, the computer makes some noises like it's working harder to get it to play then spits it out after 30 seconds.
I put back in an previous volume DVD from this series and it plays fine. Is it simply the DVD? It's brand new I just took it out of the wrapping.

This can't be normal behavior. Everytime I restart, whatever CD is in the optical drive comes out.

Back in February, I purchased the (at the time) base mode 15" MacBook Pro, which I shouldn't have returned (idiot). I spec whored and went for the Sony VPCF115FM/B, with i7 which has proven to be a catastrophic and horrendous piece of machinery.
It is coming in from its second round of repairs (still will have poor screen, battery life, and dismal 900MHz throttling when on battery). I am looking to get a Mac to replace it, and I've come down to a few options.
1) Get the baseline 13" model with hopefully the new BTS deal.
2) Get the mid line MBP from last generation refurbished for $1529 (2.66, 9600 320GB 4GB).
3. Get the low-end 15" from this gen with the BTS deal (required for me to afford it), and sell the iPod/Printer.
Do I need the power and screen resolution (size doesn't matter to me) or would the cheaper 13" cover me?
I purchased the 2.26 13" MBP (4GB RAM) yesterday afternoon. When I came home, I set it up and started to notice a couple of streaks (.5" thick) on the right side and half of the bottom of the screen. I have a 9C9E screen and have it tested it on the Earth (centered) wallpaper with full brightness. It tends to go away after 40% brightness.

The second time it did this, after the computer shut down, I would turn it on and then it would go right back off until I removed the hard drive and turned it on and it was fine. Now my computer won't recognize the hard drive at all when i plug it in. The light on the hard drive will come on but it will not show up on my computer.
The hard drive is a WD 1TB Passport and it still works fine with every other computer I plug it into, PCs and macs both.I have a late 2008 13" Aluminum Macbook

Whenever I insert a blank DVD there's a long pause and it spits it out again, nearly every time. There's no dialog, no message, no reaction from the OS of any kind.
On the rare occasions when it accepts a disk, everything after that is fine. I can burn DVDs no problem. The DVDs are a variety of different types (all DVD-R), from reliable brands.
I've tried rebooting, changing the settings in System Preferences, quitting all applications except the Finder, but nothing has made any difference.

I'm not sure but do I have I got a DL burner? I've tried Verbatim DL discs but the recorder spits them out midway through. Is the brand the problem or is it the burner?
I want to rip this movie to my iMac. But every time I put the DVD in, my iMac automatically spits it out. I looked it up, and there seems to be software that let you rip movies to HDD. But the iMac doesn't even recognize the DVD even being there.
Has anyone come up with a way to go around this?

My IMac won't grab disks in the superdrive, spits them straight out, is there anything I can try before taking it for repairs. It is two years old so is out of warranty.

Well, my question is very simple: I have a MBA and this other laptop from work, a crappy HP which is old as hell. I'm planning to use Remote Disc to reinstall my Leopard, since the upgrade to 10.5.3 really screwed things here, and I can't figure out why. Point is: instead of running all Leopard installation thru Remote Disc, I would prefer to share Leopard disc 1 over Remote Disc and restore it to a partition on my external HD, making a clone of it, which would install *much* faster. Has anyone tried anything like this? There's any Windows program which allows me to rip a Mac DVD to a Mac partition?
