View 5 Replies View RelatedI have just purchased a new iMac with Leopard. I already own a MBP with Tiger and I am trying to shares files between the two. The MBP connects to iMac and shows files easy as...however I have enabled sharing on iMac when I choose Network it recognises the MBP but always says connecting and after a few minutes shows connection failed.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have two users defined on my macbook (one is New, and the other one, the Old one, is what I've always had).I was re-configuring File Sharing on the Old user.I turned files sahring off in the Old User, but when I log into the New, I can still acess to some folders that I have never set to be shared; only few folders have the red restricted access on it. The New User does have file sharing disabled, and non of its folder can be accessed; so, it's working Ok for this New User.Â

I am running an iMac G5 Version 10.5.6 (Leopard) and I have activated every security feature I can find.
I have disabled all sharing, I have disabled guest access, I have the firewall up allowing only essential services, and I am in stealth mode.
In spite of this, he is obviously able to see every website I visit, and I am afraid he can view my email or the court documents etc. on my machine.
When I click on my harddrive icon, I can see his machine, listed as PC server, under 'sharing', even though I have disabled all sharing!!
There does not seem to be an option to disconnect him, or block him.
I am trying to set up my home network to have the iMac share its' media library via iTunes, and access that media on other devices in the home. I would like to use iTunes Music Sharing, which is a very simple setup on the iMac and doesn't require any Apple ID to be entered on the devices accessing the shared library. However, I have found that the iPhone and iPad will not even see the shared media library when the iMac is set up to share its' library.Â
Only when I enable Home Sharing on the iMac, and configure Home Sharing on the iPhone and iPad, do I see the shared library available on those devices.Â
I would like to allow other family members in the household to access the shared media library without requiring them to have my Apple ID and password. iTunes Music Sharing is supposed to allow this.Â
Does iTunes Music Sharing not work when trying to share to an iPhone or iPad?Â

When I attempt to share my project to a DVD, it gives me the option of 'Next' rather than 'Share' - why? Then it says that the DVD Sharing was successful - but it hasn't! It saves a disk image to the destination. I don't know why the 'Share' option has suddenly changed!! I was burning DVDs just fine a few days ago!Â
Also, what is the most effective / quick way of burning DVDs using the MacBook, without purchasing other software?Â

I've got a mac mini that i got less than 2 mos ago, and i'm trying to install ProTools onto my machine from a DVD. When i was initially configuring my machine, i checked out the Remote Disc feature, but over my lame wifi connection, things were taking way too long, and I dropped it. Now, when trying to setup this Pro Tools install, I seem to have lost the ability to use the DVD/CD sharing options in my System Preferences. The option just isn't there anymore. I have the option on my Snow Leopard MBP, and it's enabled there, and the two machines are connected on a computer-to-computer wireless connection.Â

Kind of curious how often people upgrade their Macbook pro here. Anyone care to share? (also if its your main machine or not.
I have only had one so far.
To clarify i meant new machine
I tried to access my NAS from my macbook today, using AFP. I believe it was partially working. On the mac side I didn't configure anything in particular. The NAS was setup with 3 AFP shares with unique names. When I opened the Finder on the mac, the NAS (FreeNAS) appeared. Clicking on the "freenas" brought up the three shares. I didn't specifically mount any shares, but obviously the mac picked them up because the unique names were there. As well, I was able to briefly browse the folders. The problem is that the connection to the shares does not last long.
Sometimes I can't even click on the NAS name and bring up the shares, I just get a never ending "connecting...." Even worse, once this has happened I am unable to do any further work with the network. Even web browsing using Safari ceases to work. Even worser worse, the mac will not reboot properly. I have to do a hard shutdown. For what it's worth, the same thing appears to happen when I try to mount a samba share such as smb://192.168.100.10. It may briefly connect but before too long Finder pretty much hangs, as well as the internet.
I have searched the forum and the Apple support website and haven't been able to get things to work.
Background:
My MacBook (May '07, Tiger) is currently connected to the internet via 802.1x ethernet. I would like to use the internet sharing feature to set up a small wi-fi network for my iPhone and my PS3 so that they can get some internet access through the MacBook. It is ok to do this on my current network.
The Problem:
I go to the sharing preferences pane and allow connection sharing, as well as personal web access in the firewall settings. I select to share ethernet via airport, name my network and type in a password. Then nothing happens. Airport is on and I cannot see my network on either the iPhone or the PS3.
I have recently bought a mac book pro, and i am trying to get my iTunes library from my pc computer to my mac. I have successfully authorised homesharing on both computers. My pc homesharing works, and allows me to see and use any music that i have bought from iTunes that is on my mac. However, it does not work the other way around, so my mac will not let me use/see any of my pc library (which is very large) via homesharing. When I click on the music menu on my mac and scroll down to my linked homeshare computer, it 'loads' for about a minute and then stops. This is very frustrating as my all my main music is on my pc library, and I don't want to have to download everything again, CD by CD.

My trouble is this:
i am currently connected to a wireless network.
i want to share this network with my ipod touch
is there a way using the computer's built-in internet sharing or a 3rd party app that i can have my ipod touch connect to my macbook, while my macbook is connected to a wireless network?
I have a PC and a MBP and want to connect the MBP to my desktop monitor, mouse and keyboard. I know I need the mini displayport adapter for the monitor. What do I need that will let me use my usb keyboard and mouse on my PC and Mac without having to unplug them every time I want to switch?
View 6 Replies View RelatedThis is my first Mac and I haven't purchased the Superdrive yet. I've been searching Google and found a lot of "hits" on the general topic, but either it's using a different OS (slight difference in screens) or glances over the topic. Can anyone recommend a good thread or site that details how to share a CD/DVD from a Windows XP (Home Edition) box over a home network (Linksys 4 port/wireless) to a MBA (new). The MBA successfully connects to the wireless router and I can access the internet. The Desktop (Windows XP box) successfully connects via RJ45.
Secondly if the above is fairly easy, I'd love to know how I can print from the MBA through the network connection to the PC. The printer is a Xerox WorkCentre M15 (it's a office grade machine which I had presumed works well in a shared environment.) The printer is connected to the PC via a USB connection. However I've ordered a Buffalo LinkStation (I think that's the name) which is a NAS box that has print sharing capabilities, so I could hook the printer up that way if necessary to use for both the PC & Mac.
I am thinking of getting an MBA as a second computer. One thing I am interested in, particularly after discovering how slow it is to access a remote drive on the AEBS, is screen sharing significantly faster?
1) If I was at home screen sharing from my MBP, would it work pretty much in 'real time'?
2) Same question but when on the road.
so i've set up my iMac to let the MacBook receive files over my network. however, the finder on my MacBook displays 2 computers found:
1. a PC with the same IP address as my iMac
2. my iMac
i'm using my iMac's AirPort to share the internet connection throughout my apartment (since i don't have a wireless router), but why does the PC show up?
So i've had my iPhone 2G for a few years now and recently the WiFi has stopped working. Im getting it replaced on the 9th of July so thats not the problem. The problem is I would like to use the internet from my MBP through my USB cable to my iPhone. Its on 3.0 and I added the ethernet port in Network Prefs and used sharing prefs to share that port.

i just bought an early 2010 Macbook running OsX 10.6.8, all updates have been done. I cant seem to start file sharing, in the preferences window>sharing the window stays blanc. Also i noticed that the icon of sharing looks the same as the general preferences icon, normally this is a folder with a yellow mark on it.

I'm using a MacBook Pro (2007) and a Mac Pro. Currently I've got them connected, via ethernet, to enable me to swap files etc, and to connect to the Internet. What I would like to do is find a way to use my iSight Cam (on my MacBook Pro) through my Mac Pro.Is it possible? I know I can use it, in a way, via remote desktop, but that's not quite what I want.

I have used internet sharing for a long time with no issues. I purchased a new MacBook Air 3 weeks ago and now I cannot get internet sharing to work.I set it up as usual on my MacBook Air, the grey arrow is displayed in the tool bar, my iphone5 connects to the wifi network- yet no data will come through on my iPhone and my iPhone says "not connected to the internet".
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've recently moved into student accommodation, which only has wired internet access in the rooms. This is fine for my MacBook, but causes problems for the iPad! So I've been attempting to share the MacBook's internet connection through AirPort using the "Internet Sharing" option in System Prefs->Sharing. This works great, but after a while it disconnects for no apparent reason.
