OS X :: Slow Web Sharing / Streaming Speed On Diffrent Pages
Dec 6, 2010I have web sharing on so I can stream all the media on my computer's hard drive to my ipod touch.It works, but the speed performance is pretty terrible. I'm just streaming videos over my local wifi network (not through the net) and the playback buffer on my ipod touch will take a while to start, then there'll be a burst where the buffer starts moving forward reasonably quickly, then it'll suddenly completely stop adding more to the buffer, wait a little while, and then suddenly start adding more into the buffer.
I'm running this on my own wifi network at home, it should be blazing.In fact, I actually get much better streaming speeds into my ipod touch when I actually do watch a video I'm streaming from some other website on the net.

Oct 23, 2010I've done a couple of single image emails that were under 2mb in size. Decent cable upload/download speeds usually, but this is pretty slow. 2-4 minutes per email before it says "Sent".

Mar 25, 2007I was wondering if anyone knows of a good app for the Mac that will monitor a given web page for any changes in content and immediately send an email or other alert letting me know. I don't care so much about the particular changes, just the fact that a change was made.
I was looking at Web Secretary, but it's a *nix app that doesn't have a GUI and I'm not entirely sure it would do what I need. I would rather have something a bit more user-friendly anyway, and preferably free.
OS X :: Email Links From Websites Opening Old Fashioned Gmail Pages?
Oct 19, 2010I am running SL and the Gmail Notifier for Mac, and Firefox. Every time I click an email link in Firefox, instead of opening up a "compose mail" page in Gmail like it used to, recently I just get sent to an old-style HTML only Gmail page, as pictured below.
Anyone else experiencing this? it's getting pretty annoying that any time I click an email, I get sent to a useless Gmail page. I've tried googling the problem, but it never turns up results that are relevant.

The MBP connects to iMac and shows files easy as...however I have enabled sharing on iMac when I choose Network it recognises the MBP but always says connecting and after a few minutes shows connection failed.

Feb 27, 2012I have two users defined on my macbook (one is New, and the other one, the Old one, is what I've always had).I was re-configuring File Sharing on the Old user.I turned files sahring off in the Old User, but when I log into the New, I can still acess to some folders that I have never set to be shared; only few folders have the red restricted access on it. The New User does have file sharing disabled, and non of its folder can be accessed; so, it's working Ok for this New User.

Apr 20, 2009I am running an iMac G5 Version 10.5.6 (Leopard) and I have activated every security feature I can find.
I have disabled all sharing, I have disabled guest access, I have the firewall up allowing only essential services, and I am in stealth mode.
In spite of this, he is obviously able to see every website I visit, and I am afraid he can view my email or the court documents etc. on my machine.
When I click on my harddrive icon, I can see his machine, listed as PC server, under 'sharing', even though I have disabled all sharing!!
There does not seem to be an option to disconnect him, or block him.
ITunes :: Music Sharing Vs Home Sharing?
Jul 4, 2012I am trying to set up my home network to have the iMac share its' media library via iTunes, and access that media on other devices in the home. I would like to use iTunes Music Sharing, which is a very simple setup on the iMac and doesn't require any Apple ID to be entered on the devices accessing the shared library. However, I have found that the iPhone and iPad will not even see the shared media library when the iMac is set up to share its' library.
Only when I enable Home Sharing on the iMac, and configure Home Sharing on the iPhone and iPad, do I see the shared library available on those devices.
I would like to allow other family members in the household to access the shared media library without requiring them to have my Apple ID and password. iTunes Music Sharing is supposed to allow this.
Does iTunes Music Sharing not work when trying to share to an iPhone or iPad?

Final Cut Pro X :: Sharing Project - DVD Sharing Was Unsuccessful
Dec 11, 2014When I attempt to share my project to a DVD, it gives me the option of 'Next' rather than 'Share' - why? Then it says that the DVD Sharing was successful - but it hasn't! It saves a disk image to the destination. I don't know why the 'Share' option has suddenly changed!! I was burning DVDs just fine a few days ago!
Also, what is the most effective / quick way of burning DVDs using the MacBook, without purchasing other software?

Sep 17, 2008When copying a table from say a webpage or even a RTF file, Pages does not retain its table formatting. Instead it separates the rows and columns and puts them on separate lines.
See it for yourself, try copying one of the tables on this page into Pages [URL]
The only way I can get the table into Pages is to paste into NeoOffice (which retains the correct formating), save the file with the .doc extension then open in Pages.

Mar 31, 2008i have a early 2008 octo mac pro, with it im using a philips 220ws, the problem i'm having is that scrolling a page be it safari, firefox or a pages doc. it seems to jutter along and doesnt move as smooth as my mac book,and when typing into either msn messenger, pages or even text edit letters seem to lag behind what im typing, ok it may only be for a secon and about 2 letters behind burt it gets annoying worse when back spacing. does anyone else have the problem or possible fix? im not using anything more than than the word processor, safari and msn at a time

Mar 24, 2010I need to open a few Pages files but I don't have Pages installed on this computer. I understand you can convert Pages files to .doc or .pdf within the application, but unfortunately I won't have access to the computer with the program installed for a while.
Is there some sort of (free) converter that can convert .pages files to .doc or .pdf or even .rtf?
Or even better, a document creator/viewer than can open .pages files?

May 12, 2010I'm trying to create pages that have all black backgrounds. I've been doing this by using the Shapes tool, choosing a rectangle, filling in the entire white space for the page, which is 8x11, and then filling in with black.
The problem is that when I do this, Pages seems to think that I want this page and the following page to be connected, in some way. When I look at the two pages in the thumnail view, the yellow outline is around both pages, rather than each individually.
Anybody know how to keep this from happening. Or the right way to create full black backgrounds for pages in Pages?

Apr 18, 2012I've got a mac mini that i got less than 2 mos ago, and i'm trying to install ProTools onto my machine from a DVD. When i was initially configuring my machine, i checked out the Remote Disc feature, but over my lame wifi connection, things were taking way too long, and I dropped it. Now, when trying to setup this Pro Tools install, I seem to have lost the ability to use the DVD/CD sharing options in my System Preferences. The option just isn't there anymore. I have the option on my Snow Leopard MBP, and it's enabled there, and the two machines are connected on a computer-to-computer wireless connection.

Jun 5, 2009I can't work out how to combine files in Pages, so please advise! If I go to Insert->Choose it looks like I can add other files, but not pages files. I have about 10 pages documents that need to be merged into one single document. I know I could copy and paste but I am concerned about a number of formatting issues. Some documents have fairly complicated section breaks or are fairly image-heavy, for example. One document seems to choke everything up when I copy from it (the one with lots of images etc - it's around 10MB large).
