Jun 2, 2014It would appear that the new iPhoto app that is being prepared for cross-platform use is being optimzed for cross-platform as iWork applications have been. The tools for altering photos only has a fraction of the tools currently available in Aperture (and even less than available in platforms like Lightroom. There had been hope that with the new iMac Pro that there was going to be a supercharged version of Aperture...but no mention at that role out, nor in today's WWDC.

May 23, 2012I am wondering if anyone has an update on when finder will show a thumbnail for the raw files from the Canon 5d mark III? I've done all the updates possible and nothing has changed, I can't do a quick preview either, it just shows the extension image, not the actual image taken. (The symbol for crw).

Aug 11, 2010I have an account in Mail.app that won't let me do anything to the e-mails coming into it. I can't delete e-mails, I can't mark them as read, and if I try to move an e-mail to another mailbox, it's copied, not moved.I've tried repairing disk permissions, and I've tried to remove the account and then adding it again ? but the problem persists. "Rebuild" in the Mailbox menu is inactive when this mailbox is selected, but works on my other accounts.The same account works fine on my iPhone; mails are getting marked as read and I can delete and move e-mails around. Same thing with webmail

May 10, 2009In Windows XP/Vista, if you are navigating in a folder containing pictures, and you click any picture, it opens up Windows built in preview program. Much like OSX. However, in Windows, you can click "Next/Previous" within that program to quickly flip through those photos. Why do the up & down arrows in OSX not work? I still prefer my iMac to any PC I have owned, but this one little thing bugs me to no end. Is there a setting I can change somewhere to make that work like in Windows?

Jul 14, 2010I've got 20 MP4 files I'm trying to merge into a single MP4. When I drag any one of the MP4 files into MKV Tools it comes up with an error that says: "The variable theTrackData is not defined. (-2753)". Can someone either help with a solution to the MKV Tools problem or suggest another program to merge MP4 files without losing any video quality.

Feb 7, 2008We all know, spaces are great for organizing. But when I use Adobe apps such as Photoshop CS3 Extended or anything in my CS3 suite, there's some weird glitch. I usually switch back and forth between spaces. And when I go back to the space with my Adobe app open in, on the stage my tools don't work. I select something such as lasso and go onto the stage but then, it twitches, from normal cursor to lasso cursor. This happens on all tools, and only some parts of the stage I can draw/use the tool on. Sometimes I can't even use it at all. I'm forced to quit the app and restart it to keep on working.

Feb 6, 2009I finally went out and bought iLife '09. So far it was great, I love iMovie, but I opened iPhoto because I needed to grab a couple pictures for an iDVD menu. I clicked on an event, and I saw all the photos in that event. All good. But when I go to click on a photo, it gives me a big blurry exclamation mark I looked into it further, and it seems like all of my events from 2007, and only 2007, are corrupted like this. What happened? Can I recover the photos?

Before buying a song in Amazon MP3, to preview, I click the little play button - it used to play in the browser... now it plays it in iTunes. Anyone know what the issue might be? Feb 11, 2009Is it possible to configure Mail.app to mark messages that have been read to be marked as read also on the Gmail server? I hate having 13 new messages in my mail.app, reading them all, and then being on my iphone and having to click on them all or delete them to apply them as read. Opening the messages on the IPhone's mail.app marks the messages as read on the gmail server also. Marking the messages as read using Gmail's native email site, the messages are also marked as read on the iphone mail.app. Why doesn't the native mail.app in OS X do this?

Sep 13, 2009Earlier today I copied my iPhoto library file and the iPhoto prefs file to from my Mac Pro to my MacBook (using Chronosync's "mirror" option), for a week away from home.
I've now come to using iPhoto on my MacBook, and noticed that the thumbnails for my modified pictures had reverted to thumbnails of the originals. Clicking on any of these modified images just brings up a large exclamation mark on a grey circle background.
I know that this normally means that iPhoto cannot find the relevant file in the library (usually because someone's been messing around in the library - which I haven't; I took a mirror image), but the odd thing is if I click on "Edit", the image I'm then presented with is the modified image, so it's still there and iPhoto damn well knows it.
I've tried opening iPhoto with alt-opt to get it to rebuild everything, but it hasn't made any difference.

Sep 29, 2009Is there a way to see bookmarks in a pdf in preview? bookmarks that weren't added by preview I mean? As far as I can tell there is not.. which is somewhat surprising. especially since they'll allow you to add your own. I mean that's what I would expect table of contents to be, but it doesn't show anything in my file even though in acrobat it has an extensive bookmarked table of contents. a follow-up question would be, is there any free pdf viewing software that is as snappy and responsive as preview (or close!) and will also display re-embedded bookmarks? because I have a lot of files I like to navigate that way.

Oct 28, 2009I have no idea what happened. Overnight, Preview completely stopped working. When I double click a PDF, it'll bounce around a while in the dock and then the icon will stay there, though without the dot below it indicating that it should be running. When I right-click the icon, it says "Application Not Responding" and gives me the option to force quit it. I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.1. I tried deleting the com.apple.preview... file in username/library/preferences and restarting Preview, but that did nothing. Anyone have a clue what went wrong here?

Jun 10, 2010I have set up a few slides in Keynote 09, but I am having difficulty previewing the slides in the slideshow mode.
The video tutorial for Keynote 09 says to highlight the first slide, and then click onto Play button at the top of the menu bar. I have also set up an effect and duration time for each slide, and I have set Start Transition to "Automatically," with a delay of 0.5 seconds.
As a result, when I attempt to preview the slideshow, one of the slides in the middle of the slideshow is hightlighted, and then the process suddenly stops.

Jun 4, 2009I browsed the threads on this and many sites before I thought I'd report back on my day with iPhoto - just so that those of you out there can benefit.Basically, and for those noobs that don't know the gen, iPhoto and iTunes both have an interface that work on showing you what you have by way of thumbnail or album sleeve image - then, upon selecting, linking your requirement to see or listen to the actual file itself buried somewhere else.This is a great system for a number of great reasons - that is until your links break. You see a thumbnail of a picture of uncle Bob you want to see so you double click it. You are rewarded not with a high rez image of Bob but instead a rather unimaginative and rude exclamation mark (exclamation point for you Americans). The link is broken - you have an orphaned file. It might not be lost or deleted - in fact it is probably still somewhere on your machine or external drives etc.

Sep 10, 2010Just recently reinstalled Snow Leopard on my built from scratch Mac. And for some weird reason everything I open in the Preview program is just white. Doesn't matter the file and it shows up in the little finder preview and as the icons.
Has me stumped.
Anybody have any ideas how to fix?
A place I can goto reinstall Preview?
Or perhaps a great alternative for the program? I've heard of JView/JustLooking, any opinions on those two programs?
UPDATE: I take back what I said, it only doesnt seem to open image files like tif/jpg... pdfs apparently work fine in preview. And if I have it on a blank image in preview for too long it will crash.
