MacBook :: Can Replace Keyboard On The Old 1.83 CD

Feb 6, 2009

my local Apple store replaced the horrendous chipping keyboard on my original Apple refurbed 1.83 GHz Core Duo Whitebook. It feels a lot better now but I can't help but wonder how long it'll be before this new keyboard starts chipping away too, especially considering the well documented issues with the plastic Macbooks.Just as a point of information, my Whitebook is maxed out at 2GB RAM with the stock 60GB HDD and combo drive. My wife and I use this laptop pretty much daily for HOME use: typically for surfing, email, iWork stuff and Parallels/XP stuff. Outside of that, we don't do anything really CPU intensive on it - although the fans will kick in if I have too many Safari windows open, watching a video or doing something in Parallels. I do have Logic, Garageband '09 and Ableton Live installed and intended to do music on it, but I really never use them on the Macbook because the 13" screen seems a bit too small to effectively do anything with them IMO.

MacBook Air :: Letter Wearing Through - Get Just "A" / Replace Full Keyboard?

Nov 27, 2009

I have had my MacBook Air for about 18 months. I've been using Macs since 1988 and absolutely love this machine. In the last two years I have used it for the usual stuff, surfing the Net, e-mailing, doing research, blogging, but most of all I have used it to write four novels, each about 400 pages in length. I use my machine at least five hours a day, sometimes sixteen to eighteen hours. This last week the surface of the "A" key has worn through under the cross stroke, showing some white. I'm not in any kind of panic about it. Certainly I have pushed on this key enough to warrant some wear. My question: If I want to replace this key, will I be able to get just the "A" or will I have to have the entire keyboard replaced?

MacBook Air :: Replace Hinges On Rev. A?

Nov 4, 2010

I have a Rev. A with broken hinges and since it has a small dent in the righthand side, Apple woun't fix it (I have already had a fierce discussion with Apple regarding this matter, so please no comments about extended warranty ;-)

On eBay it is possible to buy a set of new hinges including the grey piece of plastic that breaks with the hinges. Is it possible to replace the hinges on a Rev. A with these spares?

Would love to keep my Air as second machine beside a iMac 27" or Mac Pro.

MacBook Air :: Will It Be To Replace SSD Drive To 256 GB

Nov 16, 2008

I read news that Samsung is already coming out with 256 GB SSD drives. I'm imagining that Apple will start putting those into the Air mid next year, and wonder what are my chances of being able to replace the 128 GB SSD drive (this is assuming I purchase an Air in the next few weeks) myself when the new ones come out? I remember there have been some threads related to swapping drives on this forum in the past, but none dedicated to those new 256 GB SSD drives, as far as I can tell.

MacBook Pro :: How To Replace SSDs?

Apr 17, 2010

I mentioned to someone that I was thinking of buying the optional 128 or 256SSD on the MBP I intend to buy, and perhaps in a couple of years buying an SSD of greater capacity. (The 512 is beyond my budget at present.)

The person I spoke to didn't think this was a good idea because the 128 and even the 256 would soon fill up with photos, and that I would then want a larger drive.

(Backing up an external drive is of course highly recommended, but it's pretty neat to have all one's photo collection on the computer's own drive.)

Replacing an SSD with another, he said, was a "dickens of a job" as the existing (factory) SSD is built into the mother board.

He restarted by holding the Power button, and it go to the log-in screen, but he can't type anything, or use the trackpad. He has tired restarting several times and no luck. He also tried an external Keyboard/Mouse and that didn't work.

He did plug in a Flash drive and the light turned on, so the USB ports are at least getting power, but nothing is working.

It is very difficult to get the assembly apart, but I will be on break from school and will have plenty of free time to fix it if it will save me a few hundred bucks. So is it possible to replace the backlight only, or is it a part of the lcd panel?

MacBook Pro :: MBP Logic Board Replace?

Aug 12, 2008

My computer recently, today, got a problem where the monitor no longer works, and an external monitor doesn't work. Thought it was maybe this can't get out of sleep problem, but it's not.

A shut down and restart, battery removal, connect a another monitor does not do anything. It seems to work fine otherwise.

Took it in and they said the entire logic board had to be replaced, and would be $1,300. owwww.

Is this reasonable? Anyone have a cheaper way to go about this? This is a 2.4 MacBook Pro. Another option, I would hate to do without my computer for a length of time, but $1,300 is money I really don't have now.

I see in the Buyer's Guide another incarnation of the MacBook Pro is coming. Does that mean the price of my logic board would drop soon?
