View 4 RepliesI was wondering if anyone knew what size torx wrench needs to be used for the rails on the HDD in the unibody MBP? Is it a T6 or T8?
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo i take it I need a torx T6 screw driver to install a new HDD into my 13" mbp. Where can I buy one of those?
View 18 Replies View RelatedI need one to upgrade my HDD. I don't have a shop near me and don't really want to wait for an ordered one. Could someone suggest how I could unscrew them without the screwdriver?
View 17 Replies View RelatedI'm upgrading my HD on my Macbook, I read that you need a Torx T9 and I also read a place that suggested a Torx T8. I was going to pick one up at the hardware store (I don't own either) and I was wondering which size is better? Or perhaps it just doesn't matter?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just acquired a G4 Power Mac and have noticed some odd screws I don't have tools for; maybe someone here has dealt with this before. I have searched the forums here and found a previous discussion about the main case screws near the handles. Someone said that they are 2.5mm hex, but on my case a 3mm hex fit perfectly. But the problem I have is with the really bitty hex screws that hold the keyboard together. The guy at the local hardware store was convinced that they are Torx, but the only torx we could get to fit, a T5, was rather loose and has now rounded off to the point where it won't do anything. And I am now convinced these ARE hex. But the size is in the 1.25mm range and I can't find any actual tools like that. I know for sure that .050" (1.27mm) is too big. The T5 torx measures .048". I suppose that the simple thing to do is file a .050" one down just enough to fit. Anybody know? There must be some special Apple tool for this.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a problem which I couldn't solve for quite a while now. I bought a new WD Scorpio Blue 500 GB for my uMBP 13. I can't, however, figure out which screwdriver I need for those mounting screws that have to be removed in order to change the drives. I first bought a Torx 6 (Black & Decker TX 6) which is too big. I then ordered both a Torx 4 and Torx 5 from eBay. They are both too small... So what is wrong here? anyone had the same problem? Or any alternative solutions w/o using a Torx driver?

Hey does anyone think they will switch out the CCFL LCD with an LED LCD anytime soon?

The hard drive on my Macbook 4,1 is way too slow for me now. I want to replace a SSD III or II onto my Macbook. Does SSD III or II work on Macbook 4,1 White Early '08?

I recently replaced the 4GB with 8GB of ram in my 2010 MacBook Pro. However, the system only recognizes 4GB installed. Went back into the computer and now the top memory card is stuck and would not release to come out. What can I do to fix this problem?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI got the i7 MacBook Pro and want to replace the stock HD with SSD. I am thinking whether to wait for thanks giving time for a better deal on SSD or go ahead and bite the bullet.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Rev. A with broken hinges and since it has a small dent in the righthand side, Apple woun't fix it (I have already had a fierce discussion with Apple regarding this matter, so please no comments about extended warranty ;-)
On eBay it is possible to buy a set of new hinges including the grey piece of plastic that breaks with the hinges. Is it possible to replace the hinges on a Rev. A with these spares?
Would love to keep my Air as second machine beside a iMac 27" or Mac Pro.
I read news that Samsung is already coming out with 256 GB SSD drives. I'm imagining that Apple will start putting those into the Air mid next year, and wonder what are my chances of being able to replace the 128 GB SSD drive (this is assuming I purchase an Air in the next few weeks) myself when the new ones come out? I remember there have been some threads related to swapping drives on this forum in the past, but none dedicated to those new 256 GB SSD drives, as far as I can tell.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently broke my Macbook's LCD. For some odd reason I followed guide to opening the top case first before I replaced the LCD. Well I've managed to put everything back together besides two things. I can't get the microphone cable . or the inverter cable, back into the logic board. Do I have to use a special computer glue to get them back attached?
my local Apple store replaced the horrendous chipping keyboard on my original Apple refurbed 1.83 GHz Core Duo Whitebook. It feels a lot better now but I can't help but wonder how long it'll be before this new keyboard starts chipping away too, especially considering the well documented issues with the plastic Macbooks.Just as a point of information, my Whitebook is maxed out at 2GB RAM with the stock 60GB HDD and combo drive. My wife and I use this laptop pretty much daily for HOME use: typically for surfing, email, iWork stuff and Parallels/XP stuff. Outside of that, we don't do anything really CPU intensive on it - although the fans will kick in if I have too many Safari windows open, watching a video or doing something in Parallels. I do have Logic, Garageband '09 and Ableton Live installed and intended to do music on it, but I really never use them on the Macbook because the 13" screen seems a bit too small to effectively do anything with them IMO.
View 7 Replies View Relatedim new to this forum though i?ve been lurking around here without registering. but now it was time for my first question.i have a Macbook 13.3 with 2.4 Ghz intel core 2 duo, the white plastic one which was the last generation of this model before the unibody came i thinki was wondering which screen to buy for when i should replace it! a friend of mine was a bit unlucky on new years eve, and sat on my mac.... so my screen is now busted. when i look up the model a1181 it seems like its the right the one, but the specs i get for that model is 1.83 ghz- 2.0ghz
View 5 Replies View RelatedI mentioned to someone that I was thinking of buying the optional 128 or 256SSD on the MBP I intend to buy, and perhaps in a couple of years buying an SSD of greater capacity. (The 512 is beyond my budget at present.)
The person I spoke to didn't think this was a good idea because the 128 and even the 256 would soon fill up with photos, and that I would then want a larger drive.
(Backing up an external drive is of course highly recommended, but it's pretty neat to have all one's photo collection on the computer's own drive.)
Replacing an SSD with another, he said, was a "dickens of a job" as the existing (factory) SSD is built into the mother board.
I have a late 2008 Aluminium macbook. I was wondering about replacing the current har drive with an ssd drive. I know I should get fatser boot time etc but does anyone know what sort of extra battery life I would get by using 1.

I'm thinking about replacing my Superdrive with an SSD drive in my early '08 MBP.Â
I ordered a Caddy to hold the SSD drive.  Â
Would I be better off putting the SSD drive in the superdrive slot or the standard HD,  Due to Sata/pata reasons.  i hear my MBP uses a pata connection which would limit speed.Â
I want to increase the capacity of my MBP (2007). Is this HD compatible : "Seagate Momentus XT Hybrid 750 Go 7200 TPM" ?

If i replace a HDD with an SSD drive will this void the warrantly providing I do not cause any damage as stated below ? page 36 in the user manual suggests that you can upgrade memory and HDD although it states  If you attempt to install a replacement drive or memory and you damage your equipment, such damage is not covered by the limited warranty on your computer [URL]

View 2 Replies View RelatedThe backlight on my MacBook went out suddenly today, no idea why. Is there some way to replace it without having to replace the entire display assembly? It is very difficult to get the assembly apart, but I will be on break from school and will have plenty of free time to fix it if it will save me a few hundred bucks. So is it possible to replace the backlight only, or is it a part of the lcd panel?
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy computer recently, today, got a problem where the monitor no longer works, and an external monitor doesn't work. Thought it was maybe this can't get out of sleep problem, but it's not.
A shut down and restart, battery removal, connect a another monitor does not do anything. It seems to work fine otherwise.
Took it in and they said the entire logic board had to be replaced, and would be $1,300. owwww.
Is this reasonable? Anyone have a cheaper way to go about this? This is a 2.4 MacBook Pro. Another option, I would hate to do without my computer for a length of time, but $1,300 is money I really don't have now.
I see in the Buyer's Guide another incarnation of the MacBook Pro is coming. Does that mean the price of my logic board would drop soon?
I routinely put my Macbook to sleep with a full-charge at night, then unplug it (the power cord doesn't reach where I keep my computer at night). When I wake it up, it generally has 93% of a charge left. This has never happened and I am wondering if it is time to replace the battery.
View 20 Replies View RelatedI have a Macbook white Early 09' (February) and apple says that it is a ATA Hardrive which I thought was ridiculous because almost all laptops have SATA Hardrives and some people on the forum talk about replacing there white macbook's hardrive which is a ATA Hardrive with a SATA Hardrive. I want to replace my 120GB ATA HD with a new one , but is it possible to replace a ATA HD WITH A SATA HD?, OR is there no difference?
