MacBook Air :: Letter Wearing Through - Get Just "A" / Replace Full Keyboard?
Nov 27, 2009
I have had my MacBook Air for about 18 months. I've been using Macs since 1988 and absolutely love this machine. In the last two years I have used it for the usual stuff, surfing the Net, e-mailing, doing research, blogging, but most of all I have used it to write four novels, each about 400 pages in length. I use my machine at least five hours a day, sometimes sixteen to eighteen hours. This last week the surface of the "A" key has worn through under the cross stroke, showing some white. I'm not in any kind of panic about it. Certainly I have pushed on this key enough to warrant some wear. My question: If I want to replace this key, will I be able to get just the "A" or will I have to have the entire keyboard replaced?

My computer began to get some strange errors - It is my MacBook Pro Retina 15" Mid-2012.My keyboard can't write the letters "B" and the danish letter "Å", it the same for both small and capital letter (B/b and Å/å).
But even though my keyboard won't write the two letters, it will still register the key is beefing push.when I sits and write this, it will change the text to bold - like turning the bold format on/off each time I push the B key. The same happens when I just push the left command key, so I can turn the bold text format on/off with my left command key. The right command key can't turn the bold format on/off, either only or with the "right cmd+b" - which for this forum should be the original short cut.
Both of my command keys denies to accept some shortcut like "cmd+t" in Safari to make a new tab. But the "cmd+n" works fine. I have no problem with writing the letter "t" or the "n" in the url address line. What I have tried so far without any result:- Resetting of the system management controller (SMC)
- Updated to Yosemite so I now have OS X 10.10.1
- Of course tried to restart.
- Seen my language hasn't been changed from Danish.

I tried several keyboard and the letter H lower case does not work but upper case H works. The repair shop cannot find the problem. I started having an issue with my iMac typing in the letter 'V' in any field, whether in a browser or in a window even after I've unplugged the keyboard. I've tried restarting several times, but it's getting worse to the point that I can't even type my password in b/c strings of the letter 'V' keep erroring out each field. The letter 'V' isn't stuck in the keyboard, my keyboard doesn't need to be cleaned, I've run a disk repair and no errors are coming up. I had to type this from a different computer otherwise the entire message would have had "v's" typed throughout!

My two-year-old daughter was messing with the keyboard on my iMac, and now the keys on the keyboard are not functioning as they were before. The delete key doesn't work, "a" types a symbol-topped "a" followed by the copyright symbol, etc...
I've restores the factory settings to the function keys in system preferences, but the problem persists.

my local Apple store replaced the horrendous chipping keyboard on my original Apple refurbed 1.83 GHz Core Duo Whitebook. It feels a lot better now but I can't help but wonder how long it'll be before this new keyboard starts chipping away too, especially considering the well documented issues with the plastic Macbooks.Just as a point of information, my Whitebook is maxed out at 2GB RAM with the stock 60GB HDD and combo drive. My wife and I use this laptop pretty much daily for HOME use: typically for surfing, email, iWork stuff and Parallels/XP stuff. Outside of that, we don't do anything really CPU intensive on it - although the fans will kick in if I have too many Safari windows open, watching a video or doing something in Parallels. I do have Logic, Garageband '09 and Ableton Live installed and intended to do music on it, but I really never use them on the Macbook because the 13" screen seems a bit too small to effectively do anything with them IMO.

The MBP is such a beautiful machine made of aluminium, that I'd feel bad if I happened to scratch up the palm rests with my watch. When I was trying out a machine in the store yesterday, I noticed I had to pay special attention to weather or not my watch (with a metal band) would scratch the palm rests. Do any of you who wear watches with metal bands have issues with scratches/damage? And no, I won't stop wearing a watch or switch to a band made of silk to accommodate the MBP.

I just got my Macbook Pro (13", 2.26 GHz) three weeks ago, and the keys are already wearing through and getting shiny. It's not a live or die situation, it's just really frustrating that the paint on the keyboard can't last longer than a few weeks. Is this common with this model? Has anyone else had this problem? r am I just using my Macbook Pro way too much? Will Apple replace them?

Feature request for combining the new presented notification center widgets and the old dashboard widgets and its designated space with the special F4 key.
Feature request to consider turning the old dashboard into a fullscreen notification center with multiple columns and grid-based resizing of widgets.
Let users decide what the launchpad/dashboard/F4 key would act like.
The upper right corner notification center button. One click for sidebar, two clicks for full screen notifications center.
Right now the old dashboard is pretty much useless with its ancient widgets. And launchpad is rather useless with the new Yosemite Spotlight.

Over the past couple weeks I've noticed that my airport extreme's wireless signal has gone down. I bought it new in 2004, and it's always had a full signal everywhere in the house on multiple computers. Now the signal strength seems to be kinda random, somedays I'll have full signal and somedays it will drop to one 'bar'. I should note that it does have the latest firmware installed, and this happens on multiple computers new and old. So my question is if anybody has had this experience with airport extremes, particularly older ones?

In 10.5 to 10.5.5 was a nice workaround to use the arrow keys in quicklook full screen mode to navigate through files.
Go to fullscreen, switch the app via apple-tab, switch back to quicklook via apple-tab and you could use the arrow keys.
In 10.5.6 this is broken? Is there any other workaround to go through e.g. pictures in Quicklook fullscreen with the arrow keys?

I've seen threads for crooked keys before, but thats not necessarily my problem. It is related, right below the letter "E" you can very easily see the LED that lights the letter up. Its really annoying and is the only letter that has this problem. Is there someone to pull off the key and re-adjust it? Or should I just take it to the Apple store and explain it to them?

I noticed that almost every letter has a red or blue tint on my external monitor, like behind it, as a shadow. I am connected to dvi. If I use the dvi to vga converter. It gets reduced. I even tried on a new dell monitor and it does the same thing! Is this normal? Could it be my videocard that is beginning to be defective?
