I just upgraded my MacBook with a larger hdd. But I forgot to put the plastic tray thing back on and the hdd is now stuck. How would I go about getting it out? I really don't want to have to take the laptop apart and it's not under warrenty.
View 2 RepliesMy CD tray is stuck in my powermac G5, I keep pressing the button to eject it on my keyboard but nothing happens, I've tried restarting it. Unfortunately there isn't a CD in the drive so I can't drag the icon to the trash which is what the apple support site said, but I just want to open the drive to put a CD in? All the keys on my keyboard work fine except that bloody eject button. Its one of the older keyboards, not the flat ones that you get now, its the version before that.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been looking and looking and couldn't find anything. The DVD tray is stuck in the open position and won't retract. When I hit the eject button, it moves like it's trying, but only travels about 1/4". I tried gently nudging it in, and that didn't work, so then I tried a bit firmer and combos of that plus tilting it. Nothing's working.
Also, I figured that maybe it just crapped out on me, so I'd get a new one, but I don't think you can get the drive out if the tray is open, because you just pull the housing straight out, right?
Is the white one the same size as the 13" aluminum that now went pro?Pretty much, I want to know if I buy a case for the original 13" Metal uMB from InCase, will it fit on this plastic one? They don't have blue for this, but they have blue for the original aluminum one.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a 2008 13" white, plastic MacBook. Its a bit slow, but adequate. Thinking of selling it and paying the difference to get the 11" MacBook Air. I've heard it is similar in speed and has the same processor.
The main problem I have with my current MacBook is that its heavy - I need something lightweight to easily carry to school and class for note-taking and such.
How is the Air better or worse, and would I be losing anything significantly by replacing the 08 plastic MB with a MBA?

I replaced a defective DVD drive with a new Pioneer super drive in a Mac Pro G5 which meant I had to manually pull out the tray and remove the bezel on the front of the tray so the tray will pass through the mirror door cavity.
After I pushed the tray back into the drive to install the drive in the G5 I somehow managed to jam something because the tray will not open at all now. The motor attempts to open the tray and pressing the little manual tray release (paper clip through the pin hole) doesn't work either.
Why do you sometimes get the beach ball of death and other times get a black and white 'radiation' sign swirly thing?

Build-quality wise the unibodies are really as perfect as I've ever experienced any machine to be. Simply amazing. BUT, the black plastic hinge cover is cheap and creaks as soon as I grab the computer or open the display. I opened her up to see if there was anything I could do to reinforce it or something, but I didn't want to mess with it.
Quite a few seem to have this 'issue' and I thought maybe somebody has figured out a solution?Such a shame on an otherwise perfect machine. I would have preferred the same kind of rubbery plastic that was on the old generation MBP
i had the macbook Core 2 Duo for About 8 months and it was working great.
yesterday i left a file download in firefox for 5 hours then went back to check on it , it was working FINE, Then i got Back after 2 minutes and the screen is suddenly white and not showing anything i shut down the laptop and restarted , there was a chime and just white screen...i connected the laptop to an external monitor AND EVERYTHING IS WORKING on the external screen but the laptop screen is white!

I have a unibody macbook and today it was working fine, then tonight i opened it up it was frozen so after a minute of trying to get it to work with no sucess I held the power button until it turned off. when I tried turning on again the screen stayed white and would not turn on. So i turned it off and held option and the scary part is the osx partition is gone but my window partition is still there Im posting this from the window partition. How could it just randomly dissappear I didnt even use the windows part for the past month.
View 18 Replies View RelatedOk, last night there was an update for OSx Lion. I installed the 3 items, it said I needed to restart, which I did. When it restarted there was another box, which was checking the updates or something. After that finished, it logged into my home screen, and I shut it off. Today, I tried turning it on and it was stuck. After 10 minutes, I held the power button to shut it off and try again. I did this twice, and on the third time a loading bar showed up at the bottom of the screen, went for a while and almost reached halfway, then it dissappeared. I waited, but nothing happened. What's wrong and how to I fix it? I think its 10.7.3, but it might be 10.7.2 I'm not sure what the difference is.

i tried to install snow leopard on my computer, but then found out it was only a one user disk and had already been used, so i started it back up on the hardrive and now it wont go past the white loading screen with the apple logo and then just shuts down. ive tried restarting in safe mode but thats about all i know how to do.

My MacBook Pro won't boot past the white startup screen with the Apple logo. After doing some trouble shooting my best guess is that the issue is either an issue with the logic board or the hard drive, but I am no expert so I may not be right. Here is what I have tried so far. I have done all these steps multiple times and the results have varied, but here are my most recent results:
1) First off, there are no peripherals connected so that is already ruled out as the cause.
2) When I try starting up in safe mode (holding shift while starting), the Apple logo, spinning wheel and progress bar appear. The progress bar fills about a third of the way then stops. I have left it for quite a long time and it still stays at a third of the way.
3) When running a safe boot (holding shift+command+v at startup) it gives me a " SATA WARNING: Enable auto-activate failed" message, and then eventually times out. Here is the full message:
4) Resetting the PRAM (holding option+command+p+r at startup) does the second chime but only results in the flashing folder icon with the question mark.
5) I tried booting up the computer in single user mode (holding command+s at startup) and running fsck -fy, it again gives me a "SATA WARNING: Enable auto-activate failed", then eventually times out. Here is the full message:
6) I tried booting in recovery mode (holding option while starting). When I do this I do not get the OSX utilities screen. Instead I get a white screen, sometimes my hard drive shows up on the screen, sometimes it does not.
If i boot in recovery mode with my osx install disc inserted the disc appears. If I select the hard drive we are just back to the apple logo and spinning wheel. If I select the install disc it goes to the apple logo/spinning wheel again, sometimes it allows me to start running the install, but then when it gets to the step where you select the hard drive to run the install on, no hard drives appear.
So that's where I'm at. I do not care about losing any data because luckily I backed up this machine right before this started happening.
I love my MBP but the white burnout spots are now back. I had apple replace the logic board and parts last year after giving them hell customer service wise and went through the processes to get it done via the executive customer service lines. Props to them and it was working perfectly when I got it back.
Now noticing the white spots are back and more noticeable on the MBP. Want a new one but $2500 is spendy right now. Any tech experts or macbook pro repair experts know what causes this or if it's a workable repair?
I have a 13" macbook pro, i was using it one night and was runnung ok until i come back to it the next morning.I opened the lid but the backlight didnt come on but could just see the screen so i re-started it by holding down the power button and then thats where it never worked again for me. I have followed some of the tips from some forums but i have no luck.i used another hdd for my mac to use on as its bigger GB than the original,ive been using that for 5 months with no problems, now my mac wont show any of the hdd's even the orginal one that wasnt formatted. Ive managed to format the original one but its not showing that one niether.the second hdd ive left with the snow lepard on it. Now with the other mac ive plugged them both in externally and shows up on desktop but still no luck on the mac thats down. Ive even tried with the installation cd that shows up on startup management but nothing eles.

I just had my i7 15' mbp 15 days ago. today, I just noticed a white stain on the bottom left of the lid (on the back). No matter how many times I tried cleaning it, it is always there. It is visible at low light conditions. Could this be a manufacturing defect?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI ran software update and got (iPhoto, itunes, Security patch) so I ran it and downloaded everything except the Intel Security Patch. So I restarted and decided to try again. Restart didn't work as it got stuck and I had to reach around and restart by holding down the power button. When it came back up, I got the white screen with the grey apple logo and the spinning clock like icon..... spinning and that is where I am stuck, left it off all night and tried it in the morning, same thing.
I did try:
-resetting pram (nothing happened)
-restart in safe mode, holding down shift key (nothing, stuck on screen)
I would try to start up from the OSX disk except I have a DVD in the machine. I am thinking it was that security update that didn't download fully that is doing this but how do I get the imac, "unstuck"? or how do I manually eject that DVD to put in a OSX start up disk?
Last two days, I notice that my MBP gets stuck at the white Apple startup screen until I reboot. I've also notice getting the beachball, even when using Firefox.

However just yesterday it became unbearable to use. 10 min to start up, once it was on took forever to open up any files etc. So I did some research online and I decided my best option was to reinstall the OS with my startup disk. I did that and erased all my harddrive (nothing important on it.) After doing that it ran great like brand new. Today I turn it on, it continues to work great for a few hours then it freezes in me. I held down the power button to restart. Turned back on and it was stuck on the white apple startup screen. After 15 min I decided to power it off and let it rest a while. After resting it still won't start up.

Anyway, when i try to reinstall, i put the retail leopard disc in, pressed install mac osx, and pressed restart. Then it will just be stuck in the white screen forever! i tried pressing the option key, but it only shows Macinsosh HD and not the leopard disc. taking it back to apple store is not an option for me, the warranty expired just months ago.

About a week ago, any internet browser that I tried to open (Safari, Camino) would freeze after loading its home page, and tell me that the application was not responding. After force quitting and restarting each program a couple of times, with no positive response, I decided to restart my computer to see if that would do the trick. Upon booting up, it then started the same sequence that it is still doing now: first a grey screen will briefly show, then a white screen with the apple logo and a turning dial beneath it.
Then my computer would go to a blue screen with a turning dial under it, where it would freeze and just keep showing the turning dial. So I looked everywhere to try to find a solution. I came up with this
