Cursor going nuts, jumping backwards?
Info:
MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
I just got this new 17" powerbook two months ago. Everything seemed fine until this past weekend when I tried to do some work on it. No matter the program, Word, Quark etc., whenever i go to type in sentences or paragraphs, suddenly the cursor will jump to another area of the paragraph. There seems to be no consistency and I can't figure the cause.
I checked all the preferences and that doesn't seem to change it.
Could I have a faulty keyboard? Has anyone else heard of this and know what to do.
(For reference, this is happening on my new 15" Retina Macbook Pro, and the trackpad update has been applied.)I'm not sure if this is a trackpad issue or if I'm somehow clicking "wrong," but I've noticed this issue with my trackpad, and it hasn't happened on the previous macs I've used.About 20% of the time, when I click on something with my trackpad, the cursor jumps all the way down to the dock and clicks there. This ends up opening random programs and is generally annoying. Clicking also sometimes "deselects" and grays out the current window, which is generally odd. This typically happens when I'm working quickly or clicking the button hard, so I'm not sure if maybe there's a trackpad setting I don't understand or I'm inadvertantly making a multitouch gesture to select the dock? (Is that even possible?) Am interested to find out if this is something I'm doing wrong or if this is an actual trackpad issue.

I am running Snow Leopard on a new MacBook Pro. I have noticed that often when I am typing, the cursor will jump to another location. So, I might be typing on a line and then suddenly, the cursor will jump to a line, usually above the line that I had been typing on.

So whenever I move my macbook, it turns off. I don't know when this started happening because I always have it plugged in. When I tilt it backwards or forwards or just move it too quickly, it just turns off.

I have read all over so please stay on topic and done go on about wait for i7. I have been hehe but due to use it is pointless to me but I want the best as I am only out of pocket $200-$400 for this order. I want to know if it makes more sense to bump from 2.8Ghz to 3.06Ghz and get a 320GB 7200rmp HDD or stay down at the 2.8Ghz and get the 128GB SSD. I only use 40GB of space now so that is not an issue.

Well, that's ms, they might even have it as an option somewhere that I cannot find...
I have a Mac Air (version 2) which comes with 2GB of RAM. I need to an XP shell (Parallel Desktop v4.0) to use some company based applications, which really slows the machine down. Just wondering if a Jump Drive can be used as Virtual Memory like it can be done on a Windows Vista machine?

I'm pretty sure I have iWeb '09 seeing as how I bought my Mac in early 2010.I'm supposed to help make a website for a friend's business and he wants me to make sure that it is backwards compatible to iWeb '08 which he has. (So he can update things on it and such)Are there any special things I need to do with iWeb to make it backwards compatible?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a 2006 Mac Pro 1,1 with dual Xeon 2.66GHz. One of my favorite apps on my Macs is iStat Menus for which I purchased a family pack. I am running latest version 3. However, when I added it to my Mac Pro I am getting goofy CPU temp readings. At idle I am reading about 60C on one CPU and 55C on the other. But then if I fire up all the cores (Handbrake for example) then the reported CPU temps DROP to about 48C and 43C (notice same differential of 5C between CPUs). All the fan speeds stay the same so it is not extra cooling kicking in. Seems to be reading the wrong thing.
I know with Intel that the CPU just reports the distance to Tjmax and then the software reading that number takes the TjMax reading for that particular CPU model and figures out the corresponding Tj. It almost seems to be what is happening is that iStat is reading the "distance to TjMax" and reporting that without doing the math. That would account for the reading working backwards I suppose.
I accidentally deleted my "downloads" stack, so I dragged the "downloads" folder from my home directory into the dock. Lo and behold, the stack came back...but not the way I remembered it. Everything was "backwards" if I tried to sort by "date added". Normally, the most recent downloads are at the bottom; however, now it is backwards. I didn't lose any files, but it is very annoying! I Googled this issue and it seemed like trashing the dock plist would solve the problem. I did that, logged out, and logged back in, and it sure did reset all of the dock settings to their defaults - everything, of course, EXCEPT for the downloads stack! It did more harm than good - all of my icons are out of place now, and yet I am still having the same old "backwards" issue with the downloads stack. Does anyone know where this problem actually lies?

When I import CDs into iTunes, the tracks are imported backwards - Track 5, Track 4, Track 3, etc. Tech support thought it was how I was sorting in iTunes, but I changed the sort order and the CD was still imported backwards. I've had the same thing happen with MP3s I've bought online. Â

I have submitted my podcast to iTunes and I was very happy to know that I have been approved to have my podcast added to iTunes. When I found my podcast in iTunes I realised that the episodes that I have in the store are in reverse order, ie. episode 1 is episode 4 etc. I have used blogger to post my audio files and have used Feedburner to create the feed link. Is there anything that I can do to make it so that episode 1 is episode 1 and that every episode that follows is in order of its creation?Â

My query: anyone else have a problem where different apps suddenly jump from one space to another? For example: I'll have skype and mail open in space one, word/excel/ppt in two. When I switch from two to one to check my email, no problem. When I switch back to continue with ppt, i discover that my ppt palette has followed me to space one like a faithful dog, but then got lost there, apparently unable to find its way back to space two. So I go back up to space one to fetch him back home and then get back only to discover that the excel palette has gone looking for his friend in space three where I've got GE running! It's like an old Abott & Costello flick.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI understand that X is a big change from the last iteration, but that kinda ruins the whole numbered updates.
Every major (numbered) update should be a big change so is there a reason this one is so special.
Unless X doesn't mean 10 but, rather, is a variable in which case it could very well equal 8.
When I plug an externally powered device (printer, external HD etc.) into my MBP via USB, there are small sparks around the plug and the plugged in speaker makes sounds. I think that this also caused my external HD to die.
View 3 Replies View RelatedTwice recently, when I empty the Trash on my mid-2010 MacBook Pro with OS X Lion (current update), the Trash empties but the CPU goes to 100% utilization, the fans come on high, the CPU temperature as measured by an app exceeds 200 degrees Fahrenheit, and of course any commands produce a long beachball. The computer will only shut down by force via the power button.
Is it harmful for the CPU to max-out like this? The power-on self-test on startup reported "passed" so there doesn't appear to be any damage but I am not sure how much these tests really test. The Apple Hardware Test will not run in Lion. I ran one with my old Snow Leopard startup disk and it reported pass but recorded the test date as in the year 4012.
Every time i open itunes on my Mac, the whole computer freezes. It unfreezes for about 2 seconds every minute and once i eventually quit out of itunes again the computer regains normal function. Â

View 18 Replies View RelatedI just bought an iMac with a wireless Mighty Mouse. I'm using it on an old table right now (until I move into a new place). It's an older table and there is some loss of luster when I'm using the mouse at causing it to jump around a little bit. I'm looking for a mousepad that'll look good and perform well. I'm thinking, if it's out there, an aluminum mousepad would be pretty cool to match the iMac.
