MacBook Pro :: Scary Looking 'smudge' Which Appears Be Imperfection In Screen

Apr 24, 2012

I purchased a brand spanking new MacBook Pro through the online Apple Store on 27th March and i have been loving it! Today i noticed a rather scary looking "smudge" which appears be an imperfection in the screen. I never noticed this before - only recently! Of course now i know its there its really bugging me! Where do i stand? Ive got a email "invoice" i can print off as proof of purchase but i dont really like the idea of sending my MacBook off to apple! If i book it into the Genuis Bar and take it into my local Apple Store... what are they likely to do considering im outside the 14-day period? Ive got the standard 1 year limited warrantly but not sure if this covers it?

IMac (Intel) :: Grey Smudge In The Middle Of Screen?

Nov 30, 2014

OS X Yosemite

iMac (21.5-inch, Mid 2011)

Processor 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5

Memory 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3

Startup Disk Macintosh HD

Graphics AMD Radeon HD 6750M 512 MB

Not sure exactly when it started but I noticed it about half an hour ago and have come straight online to 'troubleshoot' the problem. The is a grey smudge/shadow in the middle of my screen and I am unable to remove it by cleaning the screen or restarting my computer. I have seen similar issues posted with no resolve so I don't know if people discovered a fix or just gave in and took the computer into the Apple store. With no way to transport the computer safely into the city centre, I would like to avoid doing that if at all possible.

MacBook :: Fresh Leopard Install - Paused Prints

Feb 19, 2009

just about every printer connected to any of the notebook's USB ports. Strangely, there was one she found that still did work. The problem started some weeks after the fresh Leopard install, so it doesn't seem directly connected to that. Print jobs she starts are instantly paused, and can't be restarted, printer utility gives her the error message "Operation could not be completed, client-error-not-possible". Reinstalling the 3rd party printer drivers and removing/readding the printers in system preferences didn't help. She can still print via WLAN and my own MacBook Pro connected to our printer (the printer on her system configured as a "wireless printer"), so in principle all still seems to work. Also, the USB ports still work with other devices. I've also repaired permissions on her 'book and we installed the 10.5.6 Combo update againboth no success. I'm at a loss of ideas does somebody else have any tips about what to do, apart from reinstalling Leopard?

MacBook :: My HP Printer Says 'sending Print Data' But Nothing Prints

Jun 16, 2012

I'm trying to print a legal size 4 page document. The first page printed then the printer stopped.  I've tried repeatedly to print page 2, but it never gets beyond the 'sending print data'. I tried deleting the job but it didn't go away. I finally had to shut down my MacBook and the printer, then restart them and the job was gone. But I still get the 'sending print data' when I try to print page 2.

Info:MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8), This is not a wireless printer.

MacBook :: Keyboard Imprints On Screen

Jan 21, 2010

I have a early 2008 blackbook under warranty (until March 2011). I noticed this problem a little while ago actually, but it's really been bugging me lately: If I turn down my brightness all the way or shut off the screen, I notice imprints in the form of small dots and lines. They dots are aligned to the corners of about two rows of keys. I've tried wiping the screen down and other imprints (oil, I'm assuming) disappear, but these rows just stay there. It was a little hard to take pictures due to reflections, but ... Anyways, I plan on bringing it into the Apple store to see what they can do for me.

MacBook :: Best Way To Clean Keyboard Marks On Screen?

Jul 7, 2010

I own a Black macbook (summer 2008, so about two years old) which is in good condition except that it is dirty - especially the screen, which seems to have picked up keyboard marks which won't seem to come out. I have been reading about the best way to clean it, and there seem to be 4 general suggestions:
1. Clean using a damp microfiber cloth like an eyeglasses cleaner.
2. Clean using a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser
3. Clean using soap & water.
4. Purchase a specific mac cleaning toolkit like iKlear.

I tried option (1) a while ago and it cleaned the black macbook's body pretty well but not the screen. I have heard that (2) is great for the body but that it will damage the screen because the magic eraser is like "damp sand paper." That doesn't sound very screen-friendly. I have also heard that (3) will damage the screen's protective coating, though theoretically soap should be able to lift off any oily residue on the screen. (4) could work but it is more expensive, and I am not sure if it will work or not. Modern macs are fabulous and should be good enough to last years and years. I am hoping this one will last at least 3 more, making a total of 5 years, but I want to keep it clean.

MacBook Pro :: Keyboard In Login Screen Not Working?

Jun 21, 2012

I just received a 13inch MBP i7. I setup a user account during the installation. Everything worked good until I logged out. Now, when in the login screen after a reboot, the keyboard does not respond (can't enter my password).

I know it is not a hardware issue as I can type fine when logging into my Guest Account.

Here is what I tried to fix this:

- reset NVRAM
- Disk Repair
- Repair Permissions

MacBook Air :: LEDs At Bottom Of Screen Going Out / Keyboard Became Unusable

Aug 13, 2008

I have a macbook air in my household (it is not my laptop, but i bought it for my wife) and I am having a couple of issues.

1) occasionally, hard to reproduce, it looks like some of the LEDs at the bottom of the screen are going out. they alternate in a very specific dark light pattern. This started up a couple weeks ago

2) now the keyboard has now become unusable as the number keys are permanently shifted into !@#$% instead of 12345. The keys are not sticky or anything, and there does not appear to be any liquid damage, but then again, i am not the primary user of this laptop so who really knows.

Does any of this sound like something covered under warranty? Are there any water damage indicators i can check to see if damage was caused by this?

MacBook Air :: Horizontal Marks On Screen From Keyboard Recess

Nov 8, 2008

Just what I needed - another thing to obsess about! On my screen, corresponding to where the bottom line of the keyboard recess is, I have a horizontal marks on my screen. Does anyone else have this? I've tried buffing with some iKlear and a soft cloth but it won't go away. I can't see it when the screen's on but it's bugging me now, as these things tend to do. With my old Powerbook I kept the plastic sheet in between the sceen and keyboard but assumed this was not necessary with the recessed keyboards. Now it seems its the edge of the recess, rather than the keys themselves, which is the problem.

MacBook Pro :: Won't Start / Black Screen / Keyboard Unresponsive?

Apr 20, 2010

I have a MacBook Pro from December 2007. Currently, when I push the power button to start it up, it makes the initial sound (although sometimes this initial sound is abbreviated, like it's cut off mid sound) but it never sounds the follow-up majestic-type chime. Also, the screen remains black, and the keyboard is unresponsive (The Caps doesn't light up, for instance). The light on the front comes on faintly, but does not blink as in sleep mode. And the fan comes on as well, again faintly, not as in overdrive.

And I'm assuming this next part is coincidental but I'll relay it anyway: The first hiccup with this was yesterday when, in sleep mode, I pushed the front release button to open the MCP and then immediately afterward accidentally closed it again. Upon opening it for the second time the screen remained black. I manually shut it down holding the power button. After two or three times of turning it on and off manually, the majestic chime thing finally sounded and it booted properly. It worked fine then throughout the rest of the day when I would come back to it until last night when it failed again.

MacBook Pro :: Marks Appearing On Screen From Keyboard Edges

May 26, 2010

I'm new to MBP 13'' (2010), just 3 weeks now, and it's my first laptop, so I don't know if this is just normal or not. I have noticed there are several marks on screen appears to be from keyboard edges, say where the "E" key supposed to meet the screen. Looks like small spot scratches, but fortunately they came off when I clean them with damped cloth. It came back after I use and close/open the lid, same spots I think. New MBP design looks like the keys should not touch the screen, but it appears to be keep touching while lid is closed? What about yours, can you see marks when the screen is turned off? Or I may need to worry about screen protection? (if I do cleaning often the same spots I guess it may scratch eventually?)

MacBook Air :: Crap - Open With Screen At Its Normal Up Position From The Keyboard?

Jun 13, 2008

So in a half-drunken stupor I dropped/threw my MBA on a mattress. The problem was that it was 'open', with the screen at its normal up position of maybe 135-degrees-or-so from the keyboard. Upon landing on the mattress, something in the hinge literally snapped (it sounded like a plasticky snap) and the screen went all the way backwards until it was flat - think 180 degree angle between keyboard and screen. Nothing seems to be malfunctioning yet. It's working just as before, except now there's a bigger tilt-back angle for the screen... I can tilt it back literally as much as I want. My question to you guys, assuming someone else has done this, is whether in the long run it's going to bite me in the ass. Because something definitely broke, I'm not sure whether what broke was 'important'.

MacBook Pro :: Won't Restart/shutdown Black Screen & No Keyboard Backlight

Mar 30, 2012

My 2009 MBP would have problems shutting down or restarting. On a shutdown, it would appear to off, black screen and no lights, but if you tried pressing the power button nothing happened. I had to hold the power button to turn it completely, then press it again to startup.Restarts had the same behaviour, it would get to a black screen and I would have to hold the power button and then press it again to startup.I ended up taking this MBP back for another problem, and they replaced it with a 2011 MBP (since I had recurring logic board that failed a few times).Anyway, I swapped the SSD from my old mac into the new one, and I have the exact same behaviour!!Seems to be some corrupt settings or something. So I booted from a Mac installation disc, wiped my hard drive and reinstalled the OS, then I restored from Time Machine, and unticked the option to restore settings.I want to also add, that my backlit keyboard isn't working either.I tried resetting the SMC, but the power light on my charger didn't cycle orange/green, so I'm not sure if it worked. I tried multiple time, following Apple instructions.I also reset the PRAM, which did work.
