I'm suddenly getting a ghosting effect on my Macbook's screen and text in documents and windows is sometimes barely readable. Strangely the machine starts up with a perfect image for a short time, then changes, so I suspect software rather than hardware. I've tried playing with settings in system preferences as well as repairing permissions. Should I perhaps try a PMU reset?

Is there a way to increase the size of the displayed mail, as you are creating it? I have mine set to 12 point text, but it is still difficult to read. The e-mail when received is fine, it's the creating that's "tiny"?

Something weird has happened twice in the last week or so - I close my MacBook (black), open it later (I think both times I moved it somewhere), and when I re-open the screen is black and I have to restart using the power button.
What I noticed this time is that I could barely make out text on the screen, and although I couldn't read the whole thing, it was definitely a kernel panic "grey screen of death":
I'm wondering why this could be happening - both times it definitely had to do with closing and re-opening the laptop, and I'm wondering what the dimmed screen (I could barely make out the words) says about the issue.
How can I zoom in iTunes text? Everything else on my multiple macs is fine. But iTunes will never enlarge it's tiny text! (Men have size issues, but iTunes is happy with its insignificant size!) Help? Or Hey! Apple! Get with the program! (no pun)I just want that little text to grow! What good is a huge monitor if I have to be 3 inches from it to use it?

It seems they set the monitor to not go to sleep and I came back on Tuesday (we were snowed out on Monday) to a monitor that had been on for 3 days solidly.
I have a picture on my desktop that I took in Iceland and now I also have a burned in outline of the icebergs across the bottom third of my screen.
It's most noticeable across darker backgrounds and is a total pain because I'm working with graphics and page layout and have a ribbon of discolouration running through everything.
Is there a way to get rid of this? other than leaving a complex screen saver running overnight?
While reading long PDF documents I highlight text as I go. To assist reviewing and summarising the article once finished, I copy each section of highlighted text and past them onto a word document.
I am aware of the bar at the side which allows you to view a list of annotations, and I have "selected all", but the option of copying is not available. I would to know if there is a possibility of me having all the highlighted text copied and available to be pasted on a word document in one hit?
I wanted to ask for some advice on getting a new 15 inch MBP. I currently use a 2.2GHZ SR MBP with Anti Glare Screen. The computer works fine after a recent mother board change but I'm concerned about a future GPU failure. Applecare expires in June 2010. I was waiting for the refresh before buying and was wondering if I should go with the refurb 2.66GHZ MBP or a new i5 model. My priority is an anti glare screen and I notice that I would need to buy a high resolution screen in order to get that option on the new models. I'm not a power user and don't play games. My concern on the new model is that the text will be too small. How does the processing power compare on these two models and is the high resolution screen still readable for less than perfect eyes?
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I have several external Harddisk that I formatted with NTFS-3G via the Disk Utility App on my Mac. I worked with the HDDs for weeks on my Mac without a problem. And now I brought the Harddisks to a friend and none of them can be read by Windows XP?!
We tried on several Machines, none seem to be able to read the NTFS-3G formatted HDDs. They're also not broken since they still work the second I plug them back into my MacBook.
So did I do something wrong? I also can't find a NTFS-3G driver for Windows.
It would kinda defeat the purpose that Windows can't read NTFS-3G...
I have a lot of scanned documents in pdf and jpg formant. Is there any application that can search for me in them? Evernote does search but you need to upload it to the internet.

I have an external drive that will need to be connected at different times to both my Mac (Leopard) and my Windows XP & Vista machines. I had it formatted for Mac OS (Journaled) but it wasn't readable in XP or Windows. So what is the best format so that all can read/write to it normally? NTFS? It needs to be able to handle larger files (4GB and bigger).

I partitioned it to Mac os extended (journaled)- for time machine and FAT for windows and mac file transfer and storage. I used disk utility to partition the drive. These two drives are detected in my mac, however when I plug in the external drive into my windows- no pop up appears telling me to open files. So I go into my computer and click on the (F) drive in my case. Windows vista then proceeds to tell me the drive must be formatted before it can be used. What problem do I have. All I want is 2 partitions one for time machine and another that will allow for data transfer and storage. I have looked but cannot seem to find and answer. I have a 160 gb hard drive, what amount of space do you recommend for the time machine partition.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWellll... after finally getting a decent color profile (man, the default one is terrible) I have a problem I can't solve; any sort of movement gives a kind of magenta-colored ghost. Most obvious on web pages using inertial scrolling.
My 5,1 15" MBP doesn't do this. In fact, by comparison the 5,1's display really is very good.
Anyone else have this? (I'd have merged this with the Red Tint post but it seems another issue).
UPDATE EDIT: took proper pictures this time around while I had the free time.. Corners are very vulnerable to exorbitant damage costs (my case costs over $800). Be careful. The best way to protect would be a full on plastic cover, but that doubles the weight and size = Normal side; I put a cheapo $10 cover on it and it's still got bubbles I've got to push out or pin out, so excuse those.
View 24 Replies View RelatedIt started last night when my adapter freyed, melted and became useless (a common problem with the MagSafe). I called to bitch to Apple, but they just wanted to make sure nobody died and no houses burned down and then told me to go buy a new adapter. I did that today, but now my computer wont hold a charge and is stuck at 0% and shows the charged icon over the battery. The weird thing is that the light on the MagSafe head is an extremely dim green. You need to turn the lights off to really see that it is lit, but very weakly.
So, I went back to the Apple store and tried the charger on a different computer and it worked fine. And we tried a completely different charger on my macbook and the same dimly lit light thing happened. So i dont think its the charger. Then we put my battery in a different macbook and it took a charge. So i dont think its the battery. Any ideas??? Is it a coincidence my 18 month old hassle-free (until now) macbook has had two problems in the last 24 hrs? It isn't under warranty.
I've had my MBP for 3 years, and I'm usually decent enough at fixing minor problems that I have. I got a new pair of Sennheiser HD 280 Pro's today, and I can't use them with my computer for some reason. I've attempted to reset the pram, I've checked all the system preferences, I actually CAN hear the audio through the phones. It's barely audible at max volume. I've never had this problem before. I've tried to plug a different pair of headphones in and I have the same problem. So basically, I'm stuck troubleshooting, and wondering what I can do to remedy this.

View 1 Replies View RelatedJust came back from the Genius Bar at Apple Amsterdam. Both iTunes and iPhoto had problems launching and libraries were not loading. Ruled out hardware problems so they tried installing OS Snow Leopard over my 10.5.8 in a way to keep my documents safe. All went well until halfway it said it couldn't install succesfully. Made a new appointment for in 3 days from now. They would then overwrite the current OS with the new one so i should go home and make sure to back up all my files in the meantime. Problem is that when i came home and started my laptop i got a blank/white screen with a blinking documents folder symbol with a question mark in it! Does anybody know what it means and will i be able to ever make a back up of my documents?

View 14 Replies View RelatedMacbook Pro 17" Text size issue with High Resolution screen. Just got a Macbook Pro 17 that I love except for one thing - text size on many programs. I understand the reason for it and I did not want a 15 inch as I tend to work with multiple programs at once. I am not tied to an office so that rules out buying an external screen, So I have been trying to find solutions that makes working with in different programs less of a strain on my eyes. Here are some of the workarounds I have found to programs I use and programs that I have had no luck with. Mail. This is the big one. It is easy to set the default font to a larger size and that helps with incoming mail. Or you can add a small/larger button with the customize toolbar option but there is no fix for outgoing mail.
