View 3 Replies View RelatedLately as soon as my Mac gets a little bit warm, these start showing up. I've tried the PRAM and SMC resets, repaired permissions, all the general usual fixes.
1st Gen. MacBook Air, 1.6, 80gb HD, Snow Leopard, fully up to date.
Like is there a limit of how many keys i can hold down at the same time, till one of em dont work?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWellll... after finally getting a decent color profile (man, the default one is terrible) I have a problem I can't solve; any sort of movement gives a kind of magenta-colored ghost. Most obvious on web pages using inertial scrolling.
My 5,1 15" MBP doesn't do this. In fact, by comparison the 5,1's display really is very good.
Anyone else have this? (I'd have merged this with the Red Tint post but it seems another issue).
Mac Mini G4 1.42Ghz. Display is fuzzy and ghosting. Have changed monitor - no improvement. Also monitor lead and VGA adapter.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAt the weekend I had to leave my Mac on for our Tech support team to fix something remotely.
It seems they set the monitor to not go to sleep and I came back on Tuesday (we were snowed out on Monday) to a monitor that had been on for 3 days solidly.
I have a picture on my desktop that I took in Iceland and now I also have a burned in outline of the icebergs across the bottom third of my screen.
It's most noticeable across darker backgrounds and is a total pain because I'm working with graphics and page layout and have a ribbon of discolouration running through everything.
Is there a way to get rid of this? other than leaving a complex screen saver running overnight?
i wrote a thread last week about some pixel issues. i've now figured out the cause of the faint pixel lines that have mysteriously begun to appear on the far left part of my screen. the pixel lines appear where i have had application windows up for an extended amount of time. saturday i had safari open for only an hour or two and a line developed on the left edge of the window, which remained there for several hours afterwards. i've also noticed lines develop on the bottom of the window as well. the pixel lines stay burned in for a couple hours and then slowly fade to normal. this makes my claim a little more tricky i think.
i've tried switching from a dark desktop background to a lighter grey, but the ghost lines still manage to show up if the computer gets used for more than just a brief period of time.
it's annoying and will probably only get worse, so i think it's time to head up to the apple store. what are my chances of them repairing/replacing my iMac? (it's less than a year old and therefore under warranty.)
Okay, well I bought this display off of craigslist and when I have a webpage up for 10 seconds or more and minimize the screen, I can see like a faded ghost image of the screen for about a minute or so I guess, maybe a little longer.
Does anyone know how I can resolve this with having to change the LCD screen?
I'm suddenly getting a ghosting effect on my Macbook's screen and text in documents and windows is sometimes barely readable. Strangely the machine starts up with a perfect image for a short time, then changes, so I suspect software rather than hardware. I've tried playing with settings in system preferences as well as repairing permissions. Should I perhaps try a PMU reset?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have read in at least one place in the forum that "any unibody macbook pro can take up to 1TB hard drive". As someone who has upgraded Dells and Thinkpads in the past this would make sense, i.e. Any hdd with same dimensions, access method (SATA?) and same spin speed would be supported. Â
The reason I ask is that I called Apple UK to have a family member's late 2009 13" unibody upgraded at an Apple store. Apple UK do not undertake hardware work and they directed me to a central London office who do their official repairs, and they said if the max capacity of that model when originally produced was 500GB then anything bigger "might use too much electricity". Would not upgrade beyond 500. Offered me £300 for the old one in exchange for a new mbp. As far as I was aware the bulk of the power drawn was down to spin speed not platter density. Upgrading from 320 to 500 is hardly worth their fee so it looks like a home upgrade. Â
A replacement to my girlfriend's pre-unibody 2.5Ghz (4,1 with the 8600GT) macbook pro is soon to arrive (thanks Applecare) and I'm really hoping I can just "hot-swap" the old (but newish) 500GB 7200 rpm HDD (bootcamp partitioned ) into the new unibody replacement. Does anybody think this will work? Will there be EFI/hardware issues?
FYI (this is due to 4 ongoing graphics/screen issues)
Does anyone know if I can put 8G in a MacBook Pro (5,1 - Unibody)?

This is as far as my brightness will go up. This is using the keyboard brightness thing on F1 and F2. When I go into the system preferences, I can drag the brightness to the top, but as soon as I release the mouse, it automatically flicks back to where it was before without getting any brighter.
Does anyone have any ideas as to the cause?
The model number of my macbook is A1342 if that helps.
I am thinking about buying a SSD to install in my late 2008 aluminum macbook. Specs are 6GB of ram, 2.4 GHZ processor, and the standard 250GB hard drive which I believe is 5400 RPMs. So my question is, is it worth it? Will I see that much of a performance improvement? I don't reboot that often. I currently am using 92GB of my 250GB hard drive. So I would probably only need like a 160GB or 200GB SSD. Also if I do get one which one would be a good one to get. What should I look for in features.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Powerbook G4 1.25 love the laptop My 1st Mac but now I'm, looking for something faster. I upgraded the Ram from 1.2GB to 2GB and that did not help at all. I do burn DVD's (virtual Hub)and surf the net and some pix editing. What I'm looking is to cut DVD burning in 1/2 if not faster ( when I do a disk now it takes like 215min) It would be nice to burn one in like 30min be able to push a big monitor 24inch on up
I was looking at either a older MBP like version1 2.1 Intel chip but for 1000 plus used I might as well get a new unibody 2.0 MB? so my options would be to get a older macbook pro new unibody alum new white 2.0 ( i really don't care about the white that much maybe I'll get a cover or something)
I rarely shut down my PCs, is it okay to leave the Macbook Pro on 24/7? It's a notebook and heat might be a concern especially the fact that notebooks were never meant to run 24/7. Then again, my MBP never gets very hot.
BTW, where is the intake/exhaust vents located on the MBP unibody?
I am comparing the MBA Rev B and the Unibody MacBook 2.4 GHz....has anyone had some experience for with these two computers?
View 11 Replies View RelatedToday I noticed a dead pixel on my MB in same bar where the Apple logo is. When Safari is open the dead pixel is a bit above the 'o' where it says 'History'. and I can't do anything to fix it. Im wondering if applecare will cover this though. My MB model is now discontinued (uni MacBook) so even if I can get an Apple store to take it in would they replace the screen or the machine?
Here is a picture that recreates the annoyance almost as perfectly as I see it.
I bought one of these via ebay and in negotiaton with the seller. Since this is my first foray into the macworld, i'd like to know from the people here with tech knowledge what's possibly broken. The screen broke during the transportation.I've posted some pics of what is happening.

I am currently running Win 7 64 bit using bootcamp and SL and wish to add ubuntu to my unibody MBP. If yes, can you link me to an article for instructions?
How can i find out when my macbook pro unibody came out.
such as late 2008 or early 2009 as an example?
My MacBook Pro started being weird yesterday. First of all the space bar stopped working - it wouldn't respond at all, or it would act like it was being held down, even though it wasn't.
Now it won't sleep - at all. If I close the lid, the light stays solid, dims once, then comes back solid, and the computer turns back on (the Apple logo lights back up etc). If I choose Sleep from the Apple menu with the screen open - the same thing happens, it sleeps for a second, then wakes back up.
I've reset the SMU and PRAM. I can't think of anything else to do.
This computer is currently on eBay and someone has bid 1,400 on it, I don't want to send it away knowing it has a problem.
Just FYI its a 2009 MacBook Pro 17" with built-in battery.
I'm still waiting to get a MacBook because I don't think they should be breaking. I have other plastic laptops that lasted for years and never got a crack/chip once. Why does MacBook? Too much money to spend on something that you can't rely on in my opinion... I was thinking of getting a MacBook Pro but don't really wanna drop an extra 100-200 dollars to get a 500 GB harddrive like I would on the normal MacBook.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently added a 4GB chip into my late 2008 MBP 2.8ghz to bring it to a total of 6GB. Everything works great as long as the computer is in video performance mode. However, as soon as I switch to energy saving mode, I get a crash shortly after login. The only solution is to remove the chip, turn back to performance mode, and reinstall the chip.
Any other reports like this? Should I try a different vendor? I've already swapped out the chip once already, and the RAM vendor reports that they have no additional information. The chip I had worked fine in their test machine, but they didn't have a 2.8 ghz to test on.
