View 5 RepliesI'm thinking of selling my 2010 MacBook Pro, which I bought with OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. When selling previous Macs, I've deleted everything, including other user accounts and then re-installed the OS from the supplied CDs or DVD. This then leaves a new and pristine condition for the new owner to set-up as required. However, I'm currently using Lion, which is not available on a disk. So my question is, how do I get back to a new version of Lion ready for my Mac's new owner to set-up as their own?I've read on these forums about booting and holding down the Alt key in order to boot from the Restore partition, which hopefully has a bootable copy of Lion. Other threads suggest that I should Show Package Contents of the downloaded Lion file and burn the DMG to a DVD using Disc Utility. I guess that this will produce a software update disc and that the new owner will still need to boot initially with the Snow Leopard disc and follow the software updates until a point is reached whereby the new Lion disc will work.I want to sell this as having OS X 10.7.3 Lion - I've paid for the upgrade and wish to pass this to the new owner.

I had a MacBook for about a year now and a few weeks ago I started having problems with videos from online (ex. YouTube). They would start loading and stop, on and off. It would load about 2-3 seconds of video every few minutes. So I reset safari and everything, that didn't help. Anyway, I got a MacBook pro last week, and I transferred everything from my MacBook to the MacBook pro via ethernet cable. I am not experiencing this problem on the MacBook pro since the transfer. I reset safari again, no help. Have had friends use their computers on my wifi network, they all work fine. My speeds are over 10mbps. So my question, I don't want to erase all of my data, as I have no means to backup my iTunes library which is huge and all my documents and such. Is there a way to go back to factory settings though? Like should I reinstall the OS without erasing my data?

I'm having a problem where my Macbook Pro keeps resetting back to the default 'space' wallpaper everytime it boots up. When I go into the settings and click on 'Desktop & Screensaver', it changes back to the wallpaper I originally set before shutting the Macbook down, without me clicking anything else.Â
I've read in several places that a file needs to be deleted, something like (top of my head) 'com.apple.desktop.---' in the library folder. However, that file doesn't exist or at least I can't locate it.

I have a February 2008 MBP and am having issues with keeping it asleep. I currently have it set up as a desktop connected to an external monitor, keyboard and Magic Mouse (along with a variety of other peripherals) and I've recently noticed this issue. I'm running 10.6.1, I have tried everything from resetting the PRAM, SMC and repairing disk permissions to even installing a clean copy of Snow Leopard and restoring from Time Machine backup.
For power management, I have it set to never sleep, since I manually set it to sleep and don't want it sleeping on me when in use. I also have Wake on LAN activity disabled. Yet when I set it to sleep, at approximately noon the next day it wakes up by itself. I've even turned off the Magic Mouse to make sure it wasn't being moved by vibration and waking up the Mac. I'm completely stumped!
For troubleshooting purposes, I've installed a clean copy of SL without restoring TM backup to see if it's a program that's causing this issue or if it's a problem with a peripheral. I've yet to check back on it as I'm at work, but I'm hoping it's just software related. I'm at a loss as to what to do.
I decided to reset Safari because occasionally I get beachballs. I also deleted the caches on my MBP. Now when I open Safari, the window pops up but then I get a never ending beachball. Do I have to now uninstall Safari and reinstall it from the Apple website?

I am having a problem with my new Macbook Pro Retina. Every time I turn on the computer, the desktop wallpaper resets itself to a black backround. Once I open the wallpaper chooser and choose the galaxy or any other default wallpapers, it sets the background to that, but the second I reboot the machine, I lose that background. Has anyone else ever had that problem with OSX Lion, or have a potential fix for it?

I have had my new MBP for about 2.5 weeks. On two different occasions, when I turn my computer on from being completely off the pop up appears saying my date and time are set improperly. The computer sets its self/ forget the date and time and goes back to 1/30/2000 at 6 am or so, when obviously its not Jan of 2000 and I'm not turning my computer on at 6 a.m. Anyway to make sure this doesn't happen? Has anyone else had this experience? I never once had this problem with my whitebook the 4 years I had it.
