I recently had to restore my 1st gen MBP. I recovered essentially all of its files: Users, Library, and Applications, because I wanted to be able to restore things just as they were, without having to re-install 20 apps and change the settings again on 50. I followed Apple's instructions on how to restore "Users", but that's all that they instruct for. I know that restoring my system library is what led to the following problems, but I have virtually no Terminal knowledge and would like to know if there are things I can do to fix these issues: I very often get asked for the system keychain password. I know exactly what it is, but it denies me every time. Once that window goes away (even with 'cancel') most things seem to run fine. But I often have to enter other passwords later.
--My wireless networks are not automatically accessed (I think this is related to the previous issue) until I choose one of them. At least it doesn't ask me for the network passwords every time.
--Sometimes if I right-click on an image to open it in Preview it gives me two preview programs to choose from, but only the older one opens. I only have one 'Preview' in Applications.
All we are getting is the Appe logo and the rotating wheel and nada.

How to reset my Mac Book Pro
View 1 Replies View RelatedIt seems that going by the OCZ site the drive can only be reflashed with the latest firmware from a windows based machine. Is that correct?Haven't plugged it in yet but I hope mine comes with v1.24.
View 1 Replies View RelatedEvery time I restart my iMac, my desktop wallpaper reverts back to the default and my mouse configuration is reset so the buttons no longer do what I demand of them (Button4: Expose, I say!)
It seems to be just those two issues but it happens pretty much every time the system shuts down (although not every single time). Energy saving is fine. My dock is fine. Nothing else seems to be touched.
I've reset the PRAM. I've deleted the system preferences file from the library (com.apple.systempreferences...). I've repaired permissions.
I still have this problem.
Any ideas or solutions, aside from reinstalling OS X or not restarting my iMac ever?
I should mention that I'm running 10.5.5 on an Aluminum 2.0 Core 2 Duo Intel iMac. My system is all-natural. No fancy hacks or system modification programs installed here.
I am about to sell my current iMac because I have got a new one.
1. I wanted to restore the iMac as new. It originally game with Tiger if I erase the disk, do I have to install tiger, the upgrade to leopard and then upgrade to snow leopard?
2.Is there a way to delete everything except some programs like Photoshop, iLife 09 and iWork?
3.Is there a way to "reset" the iMac so when the buyer turns the computer it starts with the setup and welcome movie?
Intel based iMac ~ 2007 boots to a blank white screen. It will not boot. The problem just started when I attempted to reboot and reset holding SHIFT-CMD-P-R. I'm not all that knowledgeable of tech things on the iMac. But if possible to get the iMac to boot up again what should I do?

1st problem was IMac running slow. Shut down and unplugged several times with no correction. Eventually, shut down, unplug and reboot resulted in wallpaper background eventually coming on screen but no icons. Nothing after that.

Man, what's up with this? Shut down on my early 2008 MacPro (10.5.7) takes forever! I've tried resetting the PRAM and it did this with earlier versions of Leopard as well. I've reinstalled the OS twice, changed hard drives and wish I could fix this.

Intel X25-M 160GB, how do I find out if it has the latest firmware v1.5 from Dec 8, 2009. And is the Solid State Drive Toolbox v1.3 from Mar 22, 1010 worth downloading?Intel's download/support page doesn't tell you how to know if your SSD has the latest firmware or not.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI was travelling and added a firmware password a few months back, I now want to disable this to install Ubuntu on a partition of my MacBook - but there are no directions how to in the utility.I looked at the Apple doc I originally used to set the password: [URL]/HT1352, and I cannot find a companion document for taking it off. View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter some partition troubles I popped in my snow leopard disc and erased my HD. I then made a windows partition. Then, I tried to restore from a time machine back up I had. It finished restoring and said to restart, so I did. It doesn't get past the apple sign though. After the grey screen with and apple logo sit their for a few seconds it kernal panics. I can't get any farther than that. Should I re-restore or what?

A week ago my Mac stalled, wouldn't even go passed the startup point. I booted from disk and did all the stuff you have to do before I resigned to failure and deleted my hardrive and reinstalled the OS.
Good news is, Mac is back, working perfectly.

I had to restore my Macbook Pro to a previous backup because of an issue I am experiencing. I seleted the Restore option in Lion Recovery, I seleteced the backup I want to restore from on my Time Capsule to restore, initially the restoration looked good. However once the progress reached 0.6% the restore simply stopped and the estimated time rocketed indefinitely up to some 200 hours. After I gave it a second attempt, this time again the restoration stopped at 0.6%, and when the estimated time reached around 26 hours an error message showed up saying the files cannot be restored and prompted me to restart my computer. I have attempted a repair of the sparesbundle in Disk Utility on my iMac and I am giving it a third attempt. I haven't done anything to the sparesbundle file and it backs up perfectly fine up until this morning right before I decided to restore my old system so I am brushing file corruption aside.
