I've just installed coolbook and fiddled around withe the settings etc, and restarted.Do I need to open coolbook every time I restart the MBA?Do I need to have the application running all the time, or do I just leave itclosed? (i guess if the answer the question 1 is no, then the answer to this is no as well!)Finally, is there a way of keeping the icon in the menu bar without having the actualy application open (assuming you don't need it open all the time)? MacBook :: Cannot Get Past Disk Utilities After Resetting Computer

Sep 9, 2014

About a week ago I purchased a 2007 Macbook off of Ebay. It arrived in the mail and i opened it only to find out he had not deleted a majority of his content. I looked up how to reset it and I did. It turned back on and displayed a Mac OS X Utilities page. I tried repairing my disk and that didn't work. I tried erasing it & after a couple of times that worked. Except I cannot get past that point. I have no Time Machine back up since I just purchased it. So I decided to try my last option and tried downloading Lion. It had asked for my Apple I.D. and I typed it in and once i clicked continue it said that "iTunes is temporarily unavailable" so I tried it again. Nothing. I even tried my mother's I.D. It still comes up saying that it is temporarily unavailable. I cannot access it. I'm stuck on that Utilities page and cannot access anything.

MacBook Air :: Anyone Try Coolbook For The Fans?

Mar 12, 2008

I saw a single post somewhere on these boards about something called "coolbook" which is a utility that undervoltages (is that even a word?) the chip to make it run cooler.

It's $10 to give it a try. Wonder if anyone with fan issues would give this a try to see if it changes the heat/fans much?

Google coolbook and you will find it.

MacBook Air :: Coolbook Has No Effect?

Sep 11, 2008

Now I have these settings with coolbook:

But there is just no difference in temperature or fan speed. Now iTunes, Firefox, Adium and Coolbook are open but as soon as I start to load some Webpages (Engadget, Spiegel.de, etc...) the fan runs a lot faster and thy CPU has about 55C.

MacBook Air :: Software Update And Coolbook

Aug 23, 2008

So, software update today addressing the core shutdown issue.

I turned off Coolbook (uncheck "Coolbook Active"), rebooted, installed the update, rebooted, turned Coolbook back on and rebooted. By now, my machine was pretty warm, so I put it to sleep for a couple minutes.

Then I ran 10 minutes of Youtube videos. My max temp was 66 degrees. My fans stayed low for the first couple of videos, then slowly crept up to 4500 RPM over the course of the third video. I think they would eventually reach max fans, but it looked like another 10 minutes or so to get there.

Compared to before, the fans definitely came up much more slowly, so that's good. Otherwise, everything seemed to run normally for me.

Environmentally, the ambient temperature in the room is about 75 and I have the machine on my lap (so some of the vents are blocked).

In my opinion, the update looks good. Despite the warning in the update, Coolbook still works fine and still provides a superior heat management technique (by generating less heat in the first place).

MacBook Air :: CoolBook Temp 92 Degrees Celsius

Oct 26, 2008

I run 2 instances of yes > /dev/null in the terminal windows and the coolbook temperature rises to 100 degrees Celsius. In istat pro its 105 degrees Celsius for the cpu? And of course its downclocking to 1200mhz. If I use the lowest voltage in coolbook the temperature will reach 92 degrees celcius, still really high. I'm only stressing the CPU, wonder what happens when I also stress the GPU. It seems the air is really not capable of this 'high-end' processor and gpu, I wonder if the rev2 of the air will be any better.

OS X :: How To Access Computer To Reset Password

I had this installation CD, and it worked fine when I tried holding "c" down while restarting the computer. But I couldn't fix the problem at the moment so I turned it of again. Now it won't start up as usual with the "Choose language menu" so I can't get access to the computer. I really don't know why it does it, and I'm so lost right now. How do I get access to the computer now, and reset the computer and password?

OS X :: How Do I Reset Computer And Administrative Settings?

Mar 5, 2009

Okay, so here is how my question comes about... I have already searched and could not find links to other threads..

I bought a G4 desktop from a guy on craigslist about a week ago and I want to upgrade from 10.3.9 to the newer 10.5. He has an administrative account on the computer and whenever I try and load the 10.5, it asks for his password. I called the guy wondering what his password was and he told me. I tried entering that in and it will not work. Now the guy will not answer his phone or his e-mail address. I know he was the original owner because of the information on the computer and the name on the business card he exchanged for mine.

I would really like to upgrade my OS but I need to know how to go about reseting the computer to erase 100% of everything on the computer. Can someone please help me, I am new to Mac and I don't really know what to do!!!

Yesterday we set up the computer at the Apple Store. When entering the Password for the computer, apparently we thought we were entering one thing when in fact we entered something else. Now I can't log into the computer to install new printer software, reset/change my password or anything else. I have tried looking through the Manual for the iMac 27-inch, Mid 2011 and can't find anything for resetting the password, finding it in the Keychain Access, etc. The computer is a waste if I can't reset the password to install the apps I need on it.
