macbook came with 3 discs: apps/iLife, grey os x install, and snow leopard. I erased, etc from grey os x . Should I have used the snow leopard instead? or simply install snow leopard after the grey os x . the macbook is about one year old.

I can use the drive on my Mac fine, but whenever I plug it into a PC it states that the drive needs to be reformatted. my only access to a PC is at school, and the permissions do not allow me to reformat the usb drive on those computers. I don't understand why my Mac can't just format it correctly for PC use..
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a MacBook 2.1 running 10.4.11, however the seller of the item sent the computer to me with a lot of his own data on so I decided to delete this and start fresh.Whenever I insterted the Tiger disc it would tell me that it was unable to install Mac OS X on my computer so I decided that the best thing to do would be to erase the hard drive, however in doing so I erased the operating system and now whenever I try to boot the computer from the disc I am faced with a folder with a question mark flashing at me.
It appears to do something when I insert the disc that my housemate got with his MacBook Pro which runs Snow Leopard but still tells me that it is unable to install OS X.
I'm trying to install Snow Leopard with my "Mac OS X install DVD" to my friends's Mac, I have a MBP and he has a MB, will it work?
View 2 Replies View RelatedSpilled a vanilla latte all over it about 3 weeks ago. Screen immediately screwed up (lighting issues, pixels....the whole works). Apple wanted $800 flat to "begin" to fix it. If the logic board had one drop of liquid on it, it'd jump to $1240. Sent it to MacService.com, and got the screen replaced and the whole computer diagnosed - with shipping included - for $325. Arrived today. Looks PERFECT. Kudos to that company. I'm really impressed.
View 7 Replies View RelatedJust replaced the HDD on my new MBP 13" and am trying to use the restore DVD that came with the MBP to reinstall Snow Leopard. However, when I hold ALT/OPTION on startup and get the option to boot from the MacOS Install DVD, the DVD sounds like it is spinning but I just see the Apple logo and spinning wheel! It stays in this state!

I'm planning to use Remote Disc to reinstall my Leopard, since the upgrade to 10.5.3 really screwed things here, and I can't figure out why. Point is: instead of running all Leopard installation thru Remote Disc, I would prefer to share Leopard disc 1 over Remote Disc and restore it to a partition on my external HD, making a clone of it, which would install *much* faster. Has anyone tried anything like this? There's any Windows program which allows me to rip a Mac DVD to a Mac partition?

The computer then tells me that the disk is no good for this computer. I can't seem to get past this window at all, no matter what I do. I've held down apple "s" which then shows me "-sh-3.2#". I have an aluminum Macbook from late 2008, model A1278. I just had to replace the hard drive, and need to install an OS on the currently blank HDD. Problem is, my CD drive doesn't work, so I can't just install from a disc. I had installed Mountain Lion on my old hard drive, but the original OS was Snow Leopard. I haven't succeeded in getting any of my information off my old HDD. Is there another way to install either Snow Leopard or Lion onto my new hard drive?

Please take pity on a confused newbie. I'm running 10.4.11 (Tiger) on a 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 13" Macbook with 1GB ram. My school requires me to run Bootcamp to take my exams. They told us that we need 10.5 minimum OS and must have our 'original system discs'. The installation dics that I have are for Tiger. If I buy an upgrade disc to Leopard/SL, will that contain the windows drivers I need to install after I install bootcamp? Or do I need to buy a full installation disc of Snow Leopard (since I think you can't buy the Leopard full installation anymore)? Another issue someone mentioned is that both Leopard & SL require 1BG ram minimum, which is what I have. I'm worried the os will run very slow, but I don't really have the money to buy new ram and get it install (and don't want to crack the fragile top case) now that I have to buy the new software too.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have an Ibook G4, and it has great to me until i downloaded a few movies this week. My mistake. So the two major problems I now have is, that its telling me I am out of space on my disc, and the computer does not shut down properly, making me have to force quit everything and hold the power button in until it shuts off. I have checked disk utility, and verified disk option, and it says there is a volume problem and and exiting problem. I ran a free virus scan on my hard drive, but it says there are no viruses and no corrupted files. I dont know what to do anymore.

I'm new to Mac. I feel I have been suitably rehabilitated from my former ways. I bought a MacBook Pro. It came with an installation disc for Leopard. I'm not sure if it's an image or if it's the OS install DVD. I bought a Mac Pro, quad Xeon 64 bit monster. The guy I bought it from had to retain the HDD for legal reasons. So, I bought a couple of drives that I'll slot in. Question: Can I use the install disc from my MacBook Pro to install Leopard on my Mac Pro?
View 12 Replies View RelatedI am having a problem with my external hard drive. I was using it the other day working with some of the files on it and it shut down my computer a couple times. The second time it did this, after the computer shut down, I would turn it on and then it would go right back off until I removed the hard drive and turned it on and it was fine. Now my computer won't recognize the hard drive at all when i plug it in. The light on the hard drive will come on but it will not show up on my computer.

I've previously installed OSX on my MBA using an external DVD, using a wifi remote disc option, but because of my current network situation (and current lack of external disc drive) I'm wondering if it would be possible to install OSX on the Air through a direct ethernet connection to another Mac.
Basically it would go like this: MBP <> ethernet cable <> USB ethernet adaptor <> MBA
Possible? Any problems? Any special procedures I need?
Took my Powerbook to the Apple store because, if can you believe this, it shut me out with a mysterious log-in request, which I had not engaged, plus the thing had begun slowing down... I asked if they could override the mysterious password issue and do a backup/erase/reinstall. They told me they could not and my hard drive was failing so I bought a new drive, installed it and am now experiencing a "freezing" issue everytime I try to boot-up from my OS X installation disc. Actually, the "freezing" was occurring with the old hard drive as well, but only during a reboot through the disc.

He gave it to me with a fresh install of Leopard on it, but he unfortunately no longer has the disc that came with the computer that he also used to format it before handing it to me. With that said, I ordered a new internal hard drive. Naturally, I'll need to re-install Leopard, but I don't have an install disc anywhere. How is this going to be possible? Or will it not be? Is it possible to do this? Just my brother has a habit of leaving the desktop PC, the big energy guzzler, on overnight. Is there anyway to shut it down remotely? FTP or whatever? All'st I know is the Mac technician at uni can shut all the machines down in a block from one machine.

Could someone please explain to me why my computer is shutting down in sleep-mode. In addition, when it happens, the fan goes into hyperblow, which doesn't make sense because it would not be operating if the system were completely shut down. It acts like it is shut down but won't respond or wake up, etc. I re-loaded my system software per the Mac Store Genius' advice, but that didn't work. Is it possible that my power supply is going?
