Applications :: No Preferred Networks Available On MacBook?

Mar 18, 2009

I've been having lots of problems with my network lately I had to reset it. But since then my Macbook will not remember it as a preferred network. (At least I think thats what the problem is.) When I open the lid my computer wakes up and then I get the popup message (look at picture 1) then I have to click on my network which is called linda. Then my the space to write my password is already filled (see picture 2), I have to click JOIN and only then I can go online. But I've had to do these steps at least 10 times a day for the past month and now im sick of it!

OS X :: Preferred Font Smoothing Style Setting?

Aug 25, 2009

If you go into System Preferences>Appearance>Font Smoothing Style, You'll see a drop down menu with different choices. I think the best looking font smoothing type is "Standard - best for CRT". I've tried all the other styles and they don't look good to me. I think the other styles look too sharp, too bold and I don't like colored pixels around the edge of my text.

By the way, in Snow Leopard, there's only 2 options now. It's just a checkbox that says: [ ] LCD Font Smoothing. When checked, it acts like "Medium - best for flat panel" and when unchecked it acts like "Standard - best for CRT". What is your favorite font smoothing style? For changes to take effect, you have to quit and relaunch your apps to see the difference.

MacBook Pro :: WiFi Connects But Works Only Briefly On Networks Away From Home

Apr 28, 2012

I have no trouble using WiFi at home. But when I connect my new MacBook Pro to WiFi networks at cafes, airports, and hotels, I can connect and a page or two will load without a problem. But a minute or two later, the WiFi signal appears to be fine but no pages will load and e-mail messages can't be sent or received.

If I turn WiFi off and reconnect to the same network, I can load another page or two and then it quits working. I don't have this problem when connecting to the same networks on my iPhone, so I'm assuming there's a problem with my computer or its settings.

MacBook Pro :: (17" 2.4 Intel) - Wifi Networks Forgotten After Sleep/restarts?

Apr 12, 2012

I made the mistake of upgrading (funny word for what I got) to Lion, and ever since, I've had numerous issues with my trusty MacBookPro (2008, 2.4 ghz, 17").  The latest problem has been severly annoying though, and I just would like to see if any of you have some tips I could try out.  Basically, every single time I close down the lid to put my computer to sleep, or even after it goes to sleep on it's own, when I go to wake my computer, it no longer is connected to my wi-fi network, and for a period of 2-5 minutes, is acts like it is searching for networks.  When this exercise is over, I can use the pull down menu brought up by clicking on the wifi icon to select my network and the computer re-connects.  I saw that Apple released an update for 2011 MacBookPro's that had this same issue, and this made the problem even more irritating to me since they failed to address those of us who have older computers that have the same issue.  I have tried erasing all known network in the network preferences window using the plus and minus buttons, and then re-adding my network.  That didn't work.

OS X :: What Would Cause My MBP To Suddenly Lose ALL Wifi Networks

Mar 3, 2010

This is a problem I've been having for months on and off. Apple won't help (because, of course, it doesn't happen when it's in front of an Apple Genius).

But perhaps MR can help. Simple question: what could be causing my MBP to lose connection to my wifi and then not be able to find ANY wifi networks in my area (of which there are usually about a dozen)?

I've attached two images - on the right is what happens when it loses connection and then simply won't find anything.

However, it can not find any wireless networks automatically. I tried entering the name of my network manually, but it says "There was an error joining the AirPort network "NameofNetwork"." "Try again" "OK" The router doesn't have any security on it and it is compatible with 802.11b.
