May 27, 2012I was working on a project in xcode that an error poped saying it can't save the file, after that mac os just hanged, so I restarted it, but it couldn't get pass the apple logo, so I booted the recovery partition and tried the disk utility and it said there was a problem with the startup partition, so I tried the repair volume, but it didn't work, saying there was a write problem, so I tried to reformat it and then restore it to time machine backup, but it didn't work, so I removed the hard from my laptop and used a sata to usb enclosure and insert it to another mac and I formated the hard and reinstalled mac on it. when the hard is connected to usb I can boot from it and use it, but when I put it in the macbook it just can't boot from it. I figure there's a write problem with the serial-ATA.

Dec 10, 2014My Mac was working perfectly fine until my charger broke. I ordered a new one online that took about a week to arrive. When I got the new charger the first time I used it my Mac was so slow some apps wouldn't even open. The 3rd time I had to force shutdown and now it turns on but won't pass the apple logo. My only worries are saving the things that were on my Mac, is there any way it can save it on a hard drive even tho it won't pass the apple sign?

May 5, 2012My macbook is driving me insane now. Just recently, my macbook has occasionally flickering screen and freezes after that. Yesterday, when I was watching youtube on fullscreen, it first has flickering screen, then freezes. So I hard booted it pressing the power button. Then, when I try to restart it, it won't boot pass the apple logo no matter what. Here's my macbook spec2007 Summer Macbook Pro 15"Snow Leopard 10.6 OS XI cracked my screen once, and got a replacement, don't know if that matters.
I've tried the following:Safe mood reboot, the progress bar goes about half, then disappears and stalls again.Booted in verbose mode but it gives a warning message: 'com.apple.driver. internal modem support declares no kernel dependencies; using com.apple.kernal.6.0'. Booted in Single user mood, and typed fsck for disk repair. After checking said the volume Macintosh HD appears to be ok. But still won't boot pass the apple logo after restart.Boot with installation disk pressing C at startup.
Success after a few try: Opened Disk Utility and did disk repair (no problem found). Reinstalled Snow Leopard OS X 10.6. This time it booted with Finder and everything for a short while, then the screen flicker and freezes again (before I can backup anything!). Then, I can't reboot pass the apple logo again. When I try to reinstall Leopard OS X 10.5 with installation disk, the macbook seems to try to read the disk, but won't boot. I've got a CD stuck in the optical drive now.

Feb 5, 2010my 2006 macbook has not been able to start. First it didn't even have the chime, then I read through some threads in this forum and figured out that one of my RAMs was not properly put in. I fixed that, now I get the chime, the apple sign, and a spinning wheel and I am stuck there forever.
I tried:
resetting PRAM, didn't help.
start from safe boot, still stuck with apple sign and spinning wheel.
boot from installation CD by holding either the "C" or "D" key, it would not start from the CD.
Curiously, I can start it in Windows and I am using Windows right now. Some threads said that it could be a hard drive problem, but if I am using Windows, does it mean that my hard drive is fine?
I've already spent 800+ fixing the logic board in 2008 b/c of a water spill and really don't want to spend any meaningful amount of money to fix this 1000 bucks or so laptop. If any hardware is in jeopardy, I'd rather just throw it away. However, I would like to at least be able to start it in Mac OS once so that I can back up my documents.

Dec 7, 2014Every time I restart I have to sign in to apple id for every app! Since upgrading to Mavericks, every time I restart my MacBook (Mid 2010) or open any Apple software i.e. iTunes etc, I'm prompted (3 or 4 times per application) to sign in to my AppleID account.
I then get a prompt for all other Apple software i.e. iBooks, Mail, iPhoto & iMessage etc etc regardless of which app I initially opened. This results in inputting my AppleID upto 20-30 times for every restart. I thought the problem might rectify when I upgraded to Yosemite but it still happens.
I've tried running Onyx and clearing all the caches etc, SMART status checked, HDD no errors...I have reset my Apple ID and used it to sign in via Macbook, iPhone etc.MacBook (Mid 2010) Yosemite 10.10.1

Mar 25, 2012Is there some security phenomenon that will not allow me to copy and paste my PW into the slot/space for Password, when I try and signin to Apple forums. The allocated space where I would normally paste my PW does not show anything being pasted,, and I have also used Paste in the menu area , and even tried dragging my PW into this area, to no avail. Of course, I can type it in manually,, however, my PW is strong,, and generated, and find it very arduous to type in.Perhaps a 10.7 feature?

So I think I know how to do everything.However, from my reading I gather that Zero Erase is a single pass random erase whereas 7 Pass is secure erase (and there is a 3 Pass secure erase option nowadays)?That got me wondering - does 7 Pass secure erase make 7 x single passes over the entire disk?If it does, then when the blue bar has extended a bit over a third of the way across the progress monitor (that little bar that indicates time left) it should have made 3 passes, which would be equivalent to 3 pass secure erase?Is that an option?Is it possible to stop part way through an erase (which is part of E & I)? My original disks 1 and 2 have OS X 10.4, with OS X 10.5 included as complimentary 3rd disk (because OS X 10.5 was just released at that time).I gather I need to erase with disk 1, then install disks 1 + 2, then install OS X 10.5.

Feb 16, 2010So there's an enclosure that has oxford 934dsp and it has two fw 800 ports on it. I also have an OWC Voyager that has the same chipset and it doesn't pass thru any bus power and this is something that has to be powered by an ac adapter. OWC support told me that this is because of the 934dsp chipset and I'm skeptical of this claim. I suspect that there are enclosures out there than can pass thru bus power over firewire 800 regardless of chipset used.

I have shut down my Pro, and nothing seemed fishy in system preferences!
I must report that the trackpad's clicks aren't as audible, maybe it's sunk lower?
