I have a 2009 MB Pro CTO 500GB looking to upgrade it to 750GB, I have heard that Western Digital Makes a 750GB drive 5400 that will work, part #WDG WD7500KEVT, has anyone heard about this or had experience or know of another drive that will work.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a White MacBook version 3,1 made in 2008 w/ the intel ICH8-M AHCI SATA controller. Unfortunately this controller is only 1.5gb/sec. I picked up a WD7500BPVT, WD Scorpio Blue 750gb, with a spec of 3gb/sec. Western Digital tech support assured me it would step down to 1.5gb/sec, no jumpers needed (as it isn't configurable by a hardware jumper). So I install it in my MacBook, boot up from the Snow Leopard install disc but it doesn't see my fancy, schmancy 750gb drive. Is the drive not seen because of a compatibility issue w/ the SATA controller? If so, what is the largest capacity 9.5mm drive someone has installed in a MacBook w/ the intel ICH8-M AHCI SATA controller?

I've just upgraded using a wdc5000bevt scorpio blue and it seems to be giving me these EFI related problems (constantly parking the heads). Has anyone successfully tried the Samsung hm641ji drive?

Im sure I have not used 350 gig worth of memory. When I see what is using my memory I hardly have any space use by music, pics, videos, but then it says "other" and it show my entire drive is being used. I assume I have recopied somthing or backed something up several times. Any suggestions how to get rid of large files!

I have a 15' MBP late 2011 8,2 2.2ghz i7, 8gb RAM, Hi Res Anti Glare. Over the last 4-5 weeks, my MBP would randomly speed the right fan up to 7000rpm causing the fan to go past the recommended max of 6200. This, on occasions has resulted in the fan producing a high frequency squeel as it is being worked too hard. Is it a co-incedence that 6 weeks ago 10.7.4 was released, could this be the issue? I have also installed the combo client update, but still my fan speeds up. I have booked it in to see a Genius, but just wondered if anyone has the same issue in the same MBP

I recently just upgraded to Snow Leopard two days ago. Since then, I have lost the Hard Disk drive icons and I don't know how to get it back. In fact, I have no icons on my desktop at all except for the external hard drive that I have plugged in. How do I get my icons back? Especially the main hard disk one.
View 2 Replies View RelatedJust to give anybody who doesn't know a heads up. The 750gb passport se drive is too tall for a macbook. At least my model (3,1).
Can anybody point me in the direction of another good external drive that is 750 or bigger that will fit?
Also carbon copier reformatted the drive for the mac. How do I change it back and reset it to factory settings?
I have a new Western Digital 3TB drive that I am using as an external drive in a NexStar Hard Drive Dock to connect to my computer. I formatted it in Disk Utility but it only shows up as 746.5 GB and not the full 3TB. I formatted it through Guid Partition but the info says there is 0 partition. I don't actually need a partition, I am trying to use it as backup and copy about 2.5TB of files onto it.I have a Macbook Pro and am running Mac OS 10.5.8?

So I just got a Toshiba Canvio 3.0 750 gb and I have a late 2011 Macbook Pro 15 inch running lion. When I plug it in the light apears in the hard drive, but it doesn't show up in finder or disk utility, so I can't use it or reformat it.

I bought a new WD 750GB Scorpio Blue and popped it into a 2009 MBP 15". Everything went fine on the hardware side, but when it came time to install the OS on the new drive everything went downhill. Leopard said it couldn't install because something was wrong with the drive. Snow Leopard just never gets past "30 minutes" remaining. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I'm guessing I have a bad HDD unless I'm somehow missing a step. Both versions of Leopard can see the HDD and can partition it and say that it's OK when I have them check it. I never had much trouble installing Windows, but for some reason installing OSX is eluding me. Any thoughts besides just sending the drive back? I've already disconnected and reconnected it without any improvement.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe press release info implies that the 750GB version uses 333GB/platter technology, but they don't come right out and say it. They seem to be referring mainly to the 1TB version.
Assuming they are using the larger platters, do they simply block off the excess capacity? Does this mean the 750GB might actually be faster on average, assuming they disable the slowest blocks?I really want to put one of these in my 17" MBPRo, but I'd hate to find out later that the 750GB version is actually using "old tech" 250Gb platters.
looking to purchase this hd and use it inside my macbook bc i can get an amazing deal on it vs buying the WD blue 750gb..will this work or is it setup like the new passport essentials are where the micro-usb port is part of the hard drive?

View -1 Replies View RelatedI have a Seagate 1 TB Backup Plus Drive which was working perfectly fine until I plugged it into a USB hub. It detected it while in the hub and I was able to get files off of it, but when I ejected it from the hub and put it back into the USB slot on the computer it was not detected by finder. It shows up in the disk utility and I clicked verify and repair and it says:
Verify and Repair volume “Seagate Backup Plus Drive”
Checking file system
Volume repair complete.
Updating boot support partitions for the volume as required.
Disk Utility can’t repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files.
Is there any way to get this to work properly again? Or if not is there a way for me to recover my files on the external hard drive?

I installed a Momentus XT 750 (ST750LX003-1AC154 firmware SM12) into my MacBook Pro (late 2009). I then did a full clean install of OSX 10.7 and updated to 10.7.3. Lately I have been getting odd hangs of applications and eventually the OS, finally I have to hard-power it down and reboot.
No SMART errors reported, PRAM and SMC have been reset. I am on the latest firmware and EFI for this particular MacBook Pro. I do not think that this drive is spinning down if idle.
As far as I know there is not a firmware update for the XT 750 drive and I am on SM12.
What else can I try to get this machine stable? This is a 750GB hybrid SSD drive and I read about lots of issues with SSD and hybrid-SSD drives in previous generation MacBook Pros, particularly with Lion.

Next year when snow leopard will be released I was thinking to upgrade my poor 60gb hard disk to something more probably to a 320 one, but I got one problem I lost my recovery disk and actually I don't really need it as you know Tiger is very stable.
When my old macbook will have inside the new hard disk do I need to reinstall tiger then upgrade it to snow leopard or I can directly install snow leopard?
I have a 3 year old Macbook pro which is still going strong. It's my birthday soon and I'm thinking about treating myself to a new 500 GB Hard drive. I have looked up how to upgrade it myself on iFixit.com and it looks OK but I'm just checking here to see what the general level of opinion is about difficulty / risk of buggering it up. The link to the process is here: [URL] I paid to upgrade the stock HD to a 250 GB whilst it was still under warranty but since that has expired now I don't think I have as much to lose by opening it up myself.

So I currently have windows XP running on the boot camp partition of my macbook unibody (Before they were called 'pros') and I want to purchase Windows 7 for this machine, my plan is to use a vista upgrade, then the windows 7 upgrade in order to get Windows 7 home premium on my machine (I get windows 7 upgrade for only $30 seeing as I'm a student)
So I am wondering if there is a way to do the upgrade or if I have to start with a full install every time I want a new version of windows?
Well, I'm a new owner of a MacBook Pro 13" and the Hard Drive is only 160GB I believe which is plenty of space for what I use it for but I would much rather have my Music/Movies/Pictures and all media separate from that space. I was just thinking of getting a portable External Hard Drive for all of my media but then I could also upgrade my 160GB drive to let's say a 500GB Drive and do away without an External drive. What would you do? Upgrade your existing internal HD or get an External HD?
The MacBook Pro usually just stays on the desk anyways so an External HD wouldn't be any inconvenience to me but if I wanted to just unplug it and go will that harm anything? Also, there is plenty of External Hard Drives available right now and I was wondering if any were better than others? I just want something basic, portable, and works with a mac. No firewire needed, USB is fine with me. I was really looking at the My Passport from WD and was wondering if the non Mac Ready versions work with a Mac anyways? [URL]
I cloned my existing SSD (From 96GB to 256GB), everything seems to be working fine.Using 256GB, i am able to boot up and it is working okay. Now I am trying to upgrade to Lion, but it says "This disk cannot be used to start up your computer".Anyone know what could be the reason.Do I have to unplug the 96GB SSD?I tried by ejecting, but still not working.

I am looking into Macbooks for college next year.
I have settled on the MacBook Pro 15" I5 processor. I am going to keep everything stock, but was wondering if it would be worth it to upgrade the hard drive to an SSD? If I were to do that, I could afford the 256gb, but would that even be enough?
My Macbook pro 13" is 160 GB . I need more, but I don't know what the kind is.
Could anyone give me a link of 500GB on a macbook pro 13" from amazon or ebay.
I am having all kinds of problems with my 2nd (in less than a year) WD external 1TB hard drive on my Macbook. I use it for my iTunes and iPhoto, as well as my Time Machine backup. So when my Macbook just stops seeing the hard drive that is a problem. The first WD 1TB My Passport HD did the same thing until I had to run the Mac HD repair program to see the hard drive. The problem persisted. I've ordered my third HD but this time it's a Seagate GoFlex USB 2.0. My Macbook has only a Firewire 400 and USB 2.0 ports. My iPhoto and iTunes files are too big to fit on my 160GB internal HD. Is there a Apple recommended internal HD upgrade to solve this problem? I have Mac OS X 10.7.3
