I have a guest network that i joined by mistake instead of the base network. i can join the one i want but it goes back to the guest network when the computer is shut down. how can i change this?

I have a task called 'named' running and it's taking up 100% of a single core (swtiches cores periodically, but 100% when it does). Any idea what this is and whether I can kill it? It looks like it belongs to Internet Sharing.
Edit: I just turned IS off and it disappeared. Turned IS back on and it seems to have killed 'named'.
I inadvertently created a "Guest" wireless network account using my full name which is currently being broadcasted in my neighborhood. Of course I am concerned about having my full name out in public. I have my home personal network and would like to create a "Guest" network (minus my full name). Can someone walk me through the steps to get rid of my mistake?

Later, I discovered that the IP's of both my MBP and my old Windows PC conflicted with each other, so I created a wireless network on my Mac in attempt to fix that. I ended up fixing the problem some other way but still have the "Barrieau's MacBook Pro" network in my available networks list and would like to know how to delete the network.

The minus button is blurred and not active. I can change its position and deactivate it but not delete. I can add additional services which I can also delete. Only one VPN entry is stuck. View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an Open Directory Master running on my 10.7.3 Server machine, and I created network account server entry in "Users & Groups -> Login Options" which is non-functional ("This server is not responding") using the loop back 127.0.0.1 and entering the diradmin credentials.Â
I have created another entry which is functional, and I can access my network accounts, but I cannot delete the original entry. The minus key is greyed out and I can't work out how to unbind.Â

I have set up an external drive as above.The drive is to be used to archive large amounts of uncommonly used data (not a backup) and then is backed up to crashplan+ off-site. The drive came formatted as FAT32 (I believe.) As we still have one PC and all individual files are smaller than 4Gb, I set up the archive drive as formated out of the box.
Data was written to the drive without issue, backed upi off-site with no issue and accessed a couple times.
The issue came when recently upgraded some itunes albums. These albums had been previously removed from the library and from the computer and stored in the archive drive. These albums were upgraded and redownloaded from apple generating a copy of the album data, but in a superior format (no-drm, greater sampling rate.) This made the archived files obsolete and generated a risk of mixing versions. I decided to delete the obsolete files from archive.
When I attempted to do this by selecting, right-clicking and chosing "move to trash" I was prompted that this was not a "undo-able" action, suggesting that while I was selecting "move to trash," the action would not generate a copy in the trash.Next I was prompted to enter my user and PW. The only user and PW combo that would not cause the dialog to "shake it's head" at me, was my computer user-specific password.The network or drive associated user and PW combos would not take When I entered my computer user and PW, it was accepted, but a dialog labeled "Trash" popped up with small font, reading "The operation can't be completed because you don't have permission to access some of the items."
Trying to delete only a random selection of one or two files would not work.I checked the drive permissions and was only able to see "You have custom access."This is not modifiable. I attempted to alter my access permissions from the router, but made no headway.
Assuming, with little data, that the FAT32 was perhaps at issue I unmounted the network drive, connected it by USB and reformated as above. After formating, I tried the same procedure with no change in outcome.I am nearly 100% sure that when the drive was connected by usb, I could delete to my heart's content, but not when it is connected via network. I will note that the drive is accessed by first connecting to the router, which the mac sees as a "PC." This access can be controlled, but can be set to anon. When I connect I see two identically named folders.One is a sharepoint folder and one is a volume. They access the same data. Deleting thorugh either route has identical outcomes.

I have a G4, dual 450, 1G Ram running 10.4.11. Recently after downloading and opening an .rar file, a file named .DS_Store appeared on the desktop. I have since deleted the .rar file, but cannot delete the .DS file. It is appearing now in all of my programs, including my camera when I plug it in. I've tried ClamXav, MacScan, and DnsChangerRemovaltool, also What'sKeepingMe, but nothing can remove it. Info says it's a document, 16 KB, and it reads as date created the last time I turned the machine on. Can anyone tell me what this is and how I can get rid of it?

I have Alltel Mobile Broadband. Up until the other day, it's been working fine. I'd set up a network on my macbook after connecting to the Alltel network, then I'd enable internet sharing. Then my iPod Touch, iPad, etc would all be able to go online.

How do I delete text. when I open my Network in System Preferences, "Network settings have been changed by another application" pops up and every time I click Ok, it pops up again, not letting me be able to access any other option in the Network window. The wireless icon has disappeared from my top bar and the only way I have managed to get online is via my ethernet cable. I have had nothing but problems since I started using my O2 Wireless Broadband dongle and I've noticed that behind the "Network settings have been changed by another application" notification, I can seen the Dongle has appeared as a new network connection option... but was never there before today (have been using the dongle for two months now)
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy neighbor has an IMac with OS 10.4.11 installed. When I open System Preferences and select the Network icon, the Network window comes up but it is overlayed with a message that states: "Your network settings have been changed by another application." When I click OK, this same overlaid window comes back.
The only way I can get out of System Preferences at this point is to do a Force Quit. In other words, because this overlaid window appears, I am unable to access the Network window to look at TCP/IP settings, make changes, etc.
Next I went into System/Library/Preference Panes/Network.prefPane(more info) to look at the application that appeared in the "Open with" field. It stated "System Preference." I replaced this with a new "System Preferences from the Applications Folder, but the same thing happened - even after I rebooted the computer.
Please let me know how to solve this problem so I can access the Network System Preferences properly.
